Message for the administrators.

When opening a new account, the initial post defaults to the Betamax page regardless of where you actually started your post.

It explains why there are regularly incorrect posts on the Betamax page, like mine which should have been on the U-matic group.

It's strange isn't it. The same thing happens with my V2000 VCRs and certain VHS VCRs too. I'm looking to change the plasma after Xmas as I want to get all my VCRs out of storage and set them up properly on a TV that does like them. Hehe

Hi Rich:

I've just been contacted by another I've helped stating I tried using both my Sanyo 5000's on a plasma and you get lot's of white speckles. So it seems this is common. Interestingly though their Sanyo M20 was fine, so maybe it's just the older top loaders that have different screening capabilities?

I use only CRT and LCD's so have never witnessed this first hand.

Plasmas aren't that popular though so should'nt be too much of an issue.

Actually when you think most vcr's were made and designed for CRT type TV's and also 4.3 screen ratios I think they hold up pretty well. Just don't go looking for DVD or Blu Ray type resolution as they are obviously, due to digital, far superior.

Hi Kevin.

Thanks for the reply.

I've got the service manual here for both hf100 and hf950 so I'll take a look in them and find the parts list so I can order the correct caps and see if that'll sort the problem (I hope). I had a feeling it was electrical as those little colour flecks flash when in pause mode.

I've got a plasma in the living room and my Sanyo betas don't get on with it at all. White speckles and lots of interference, oddly though my Sony betas aren't affected on the plasma.

Cheers

Rich.

Hi Rich:

The Sony HF100 and 950 are two of the worst Sony's for having high ESR caps in the PSU if they've been powered up for some time. The other models ( F30 or C30 ) usually have about two or three but not always. The HF100 and 950 usually have over 7 on the ones I've seen.

Also make sure all the grounds are in good order two, especially around the head drum area. But I suspect caps are your issue.

Also one other thing are you using a plasma as I've been hearing that Sanyo VTC 5000 's can cause white speckles over the picture when using one with a plasma and work perfectly fine with LCD's. Something else to be aware of.

Hi all.

I've got a slight problem with one of my Sony SLHF100UB 's.

I get random small colour speckles on the picture. They even move on the screen whilst the vcr is in play-pause mode.

They're not recorded on the tape as I've checked its recordings in my other betas.

I don't know if it might be the caps in the power supply as I've not got an ESR meter amongst my tools.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Rich.

David;

That looks to be from a Sanyo VTC 5000 (maybe 5150) but my instinct tells me a 5000.

Yes, looked very good, and arrived in excellent condition. Only just got round to examining it as I let these rest a while after delivery to let them dry out a bit.

All that's wrong with it is the loading mechanism, which I think is worm driven. These are great as they are quieter than belt driven ones, but a pain if someone is daft enough to test by putting a tape in. (not saying that I did that, and if I did, I wouldn't admit to it. lol)

Schematic is arriving today, but I couldn't wait,

Is that the NEC that was on eBay recently? If so it does look like a good machine 😎

I've just had an interesting machine arrive. NEC PVC766

It actually looks to be in excellent condition, even with the protective film still over some controls which is very unusual for a machine of this age. Does anyone know much about this model as there's no info on it. Looks like a very basic service to get back up and running, but I've never worked on an NEC, so any potential issues to look for? Internally, despite having Sony components, it is very much it's own machine, actually one of the most tidiest designs internally I've come across.

Hi guys.

I'm on the lookout for a new/very good used video head for a Sony SL-HF950 please.

If any of you have one for sale or know a place that sells them can you let me know please?

Thanks

Rich.

There does seem to be some kind of issue when using Chrome. It appears as if their SPDY protocol is incompatible with a redirect to the secure https:// version of the chatpage. It should still be compatible with the non secure page:

Hello. I have a betamax Sony SL-2000 VCR. After replacing a power fuse 125V 4A and charging 12V 1.5Ah battery the vcr has started and opened cassette deck by simply pressing eject button. But after some time it's behavior has changed: pressing the power button starts all the motors. It's a ribbon connector or something else?

Anyone else noticed that the chat pages wont load in google chrome and sometimes firefox since the last Windows 10 update? I'm having to use edge to read these. Is this something admin can remedy, as we just get directed to "page not found" messages.

No Probs Rich.

I've just had 2 jobs come in to get done quickly (ha! quickly with Betamax?) some people have no idea how long it takes just to get parts. lol Seriously, I have to get these assessed, but should be able to get back to you over the weekend about the head disc. I'm stripping and testing a number of heads on Saturday, so it will be top of my list. Currently working on 6 Betas.
