CIRCUIT NEEDED: I have a particular need which requires me to interface the zoom socket (8-pin) on a Betacam SP's Fujinon lens into some custom electronics. Does anyone know the pinouts of the 8-pin zoom-demand socket, or (even better) have a circuit to a Fujinon zoom demand control from which I might be able to extract some information to help me design some suitable interface electronics? I'd be happy to share the finished product with anyone else who needs to control the zoom fuction remotely. Thanks.

RE: SONY BVW-85P, i think only about 220 of these machines were manufactured and i think it was launched in 1990. The heads i am told are about £700 more than an ordinary 75. The PCM data is recorded in the track space of channel 1 linear audio and there is an additional motor on the transport near the audio stack. As far as compatability goes, there shouldnt be a problem but ch1 audio will be sacrificed if using PCM on a recording. The rf envelope will have to be good, otherwise you may get clicks on the PCM.

Heyas! On the bottom of a betacam tape, there's these three little what look like knockouts between the reels and closer to the front of the tape. The three are shaped sort of like a "T" -- a long one in the center and shorter on left and right. I was just curious as to what these are used for. Betacam oxide tapes work great in betamax decks but the latter's tapes don't have these knockouts. See picture w/ scans of both tape bottoms:

Dear All!

I was wondering if anyone knows how to set up a Sony BVW-75P Betacam SP to sync with a Protools 24mix rig using a MOTU AV midi timepiece.

I need to record some audio for a friend onto his Beta video, but I obviously want to use a Protools system which is currently available.

Do I need to strip the Beta tape with SMPTE, or is there another way around this, IE using the timecode XLR's in the back of the betaplayer. If so, how would I go about using such a method.

Many thanks for your time,

Norm>

Hello, does anybody have any BVW-95P, BVW-96P or BVW-85P that they no longer require or are scrap. I might be interested if the price is right. The BVW-95/96 are side loading betas and seem to be redundent these days due to the advance of server technology. The BVW-85p is basically a 75 but with 2 channels of pcm audio (recorded on the track space of linear channel 1 audio). Only 220 machines were made and replacement heads cost about £1k more than that of a 75.

Im afraid that it can't be done, you can infact (on most editors) simulate a different timecode. On BVW machines it is possible (with a remote) to lace in a new LTC timecode, rewritting the VITC is something i never tried. Using the TC as an adress code works on your console works better and easier. If the Timecode strips are damaged, it is best to copy your work to another tape. Metal dies of fast on old UVWT tapes, using the metal evaporased maxell equivalants works better.

The UK uses PAL. And most small tv stations aswell as most professional outfits don't have the ability to playback NTSC Betacam SP. Besides looking horible NTSC to PAL conversion gives a lot costs. Since it's a commerical why not try 16mm film and working on avid (24fps) and mastering / bouncing to both PAL aswell as NTSC Betacam

Hello. I am producing a commercial in the USA for a client based in the UK. I am aware of the NTSC/PAL difference, and I'd like to know if the average consumer in the UK has the ability to easily switch between the two formats. My clients need to view the progress of the spot on a daily basis, so it is imperative that I know if they will be able to view VHS and betas on NTSC. Would you please help clarify the UK's video system for me so that I can schedule my project more accurately? I would be grateful for any input you may have.

Try to insert the 4 channels all at once via the DUB plug. Special Pro tools and AES/EBU converters to analog Beta SP BVW machines can be rented. Why not work the entire project in a rented facility and dub to DVCPRO or Beta SX tape wich support simulations plackback of channels 1,2,3,4 at once. Also the 3&4 tracks can only be used for voice, since their bandwith is much smaller then 1&2...

Hello all,

Great site!

I have a problem that probably either has a simple solution or is impossible!

I have been editing with a BVW 50 (player) and a BVW 70 (rec) for years doing simple assemble edit 2 ch audio stuff. Now I have a project that requires 3 ch audio (1 for voice 2 for music) I am baffled to find that the BVW 70 only seems to output channels 1&2 OR channels 3&4 not all four at once. If I lay down the music on channels 1&2 channel 1 is overwritten when I insert the audio on channel 3. I have tried many combinations but one channel always seems to get overwritten when I put on the voice track. I must be doing something wrong!

I know I could probably get round it with an audio mixer, but it is just for this one project and I don't really want to buy a mixer for a 4 minute edit!

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated forever.

Thanks,

JJ

Where shall I look for a Used Beta SP on the cheap?I was thinking under £1000:BVW35 with component cables. (can the BVW35 be a good studio deck?) or UVWs.PVW 2600 and up.

I know of a few scene files for the HL-45W and the new DVCPRO/DVCAM machines. Since i do not own a MMC card reader here is a short overview of settings used (On a HL-V79W): Film (whitelevel SMPTE standard), Film 2 (whitelevel IFC standard), ENG (ENG whitelevel, transpose and chromo synced to look like a BVW 400), EFP (The HL-V55 look), Drama (Orginal preset from the MMC slot on the HK-466s) and Walter (My own, calibrated to equal the Philips LDK150). I do now about these MMCs sold by dealers for use with digital film project, and the settings for SMPTE can be obtained from an SMPTE test card and an SMPTE test DVD (Audio + instructions)

I own an Ikkegami HL45 (not the HL45W ) And am looking for some scene files. I have a couple that I am willing to share although, the truth is that I haven't found any I like better than the factory setup.

I would like a "Sony Look" scene just to satisfy my over chroma-ed clients.

I have one called "hot rod" which is OK but not great. Redder reds and a little more chroma.

And one called "film look" which mostly is a little soft and slightly muted color saturation.

Using Final Cut Pro 2.0, Gport RS422 serial controller with composite input to offline with a PVW 2600p. after log & capture the burnt-in timecode is offset by sometimes 1 or 2 frames. But it is very inconsistant. Even after calibrating the timecode the captured video is offset.

There is no reference going in or out of the player. Is this a syncing issue & if so how do I get around it?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the video world. I have just purchased an old sony dxc3000a which did not come with the operating manual. I have an interest in motion picture, and hope to go to school in this field. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase the manual for this model? Or is there anybody who own the dxc3000a who might be able to help? I will pay accordingly?

Thank you,

Hopeful Boy

Hi,

Is anyone familiar with the DME450? I have just got a used one and am having a couple of minor problems;

I can't reverse the effect direction. The switch in the mainframe appears to do nothing - and the DME doesn't recognise adding + 3000 to the effect number.

The black level on the outgoing bus is slightly higher than the other bus, therefor when I line up the DME to do an effect after normal editing - I get a jump just cut before the effect. I have managed to drag the Video Level and Chroma level/phase to the corrct position, but am still getting high blacks and a slightly lower detail level.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards,JON (UK)
