Hi, I'm after Beta SP / U-Matic / VHS machines (preferably working) and Tapes of any format, or any other bits that you longer have any use for, let me know what you have with suggested asking price.

Looking for anyone with insight into old BTS LDK9/10 cameras. What to look out for? How difficult are they to set up? etc.Looking at purchasing 2nd hand set of 5 complete units for college studio use.

Crucio,

I think you are worrying too much about lossy vs lossless video.

Certainly in the UK, high-end stuff is usually Digi Beta (and this is 4:2:2 and compressed at x 2:1). I have seen footage from DVCam and DVCPRO (5:1) and the pictures can look far better than most BetaSP's.It is important to make the distinction between "pro-sumer" and broadcast DV cameras. As DVCam cameras like the DSR500, use professional lenses and to all intents and purposes - are broadcast cameras.

I'm not biased either, because I actually own BetaSP, although I work with a variety.

I'm not sure if you want to buy new or used, but getting an analogue camera (which almost certainly means BetaSP), for under 3000 dollars is gonna be difficult. Digital technology is usually cheaper because of lower cost of components. They also maintain better, and have better head life (usually!). For example (in the UK), a BVW400AP would have cost you about UKú40k, a DVW790WSP (Digi Beta) about UKú30-35k. Not only is the DVW digital, it has better resolution and is widescreen switchable.

Now OK, these prices are out of your ballpark, and I quote them as an example. All you are going to get for the money you want to spend is either a new DVCAM, or a used BVW300.

Hope this helps.Jon

im in the process of buying a pro video camera. I was wondering if anyone could help me pick one. I dont care if its analog. I would actually prefere it since DV is lossy and becuase i think i could probably get an analog camera used easier and cheaper than a digital.

the camera must produce a high resolution. Im not sure of what is really great for resolution but i guess about 700 lines is about right. MiniDV is about 530.

The camera must be 3ccd and not wiegh over 12lbs. Also the media must be easily obtainable.

For a camera like this i know that 0 -3000 dollars isnt much but i think that an analog camera used should be possible right?

Im getting analog because all 0 -3000 dollar digital cameras basically are not worth the money (unless u can prove me wrong?)I do digital editing though so there has to be some way to put it on my computer. I have a lossless video capture system so i need to know, what resolution does the s-video cord support? maybe there is another i need to connect to this?

Thanx so much
