I've got an NEC PVC-1040E that I'm currently stripping and cleaning up, and I'd like a belt kit. Can anyone recommend where I might get a belt kit, or a supplier of single belts of the right size? I'd *really* like to get this machine going!

The SL-2700 is not Super Beta. If it were it would have a switch.

Just bid on one of the rarest Betamax I have seen in some time.

Its a SL-2700 SuperBeta HI FI.

I emailed the seller and he assured me that this was a final production model and the Sony engineers added the SuperBeta feature at the last minute. Additionaly, on the front door it stated "SuperBeta". Unfortunately when the seller prepared the Beta for sale, he used Mr. Clean on a damp rag and that washed SuperBeta away. He was really upset over that, that's why he put it up so cheap.

I am still a little shaky, though. What do you guys think? I still have time to retract.

If I score it, I may be selling it. I'll give you folks first crack.

The Doc, Grace, Videohead, MaxBeta and all the gang.

REGARDING FUNGUS/DEPOSITED WHITE MATERIAL INSIDE TAPES;

IF YOU HAVE KINYO CLONE OF REWINDER, YOU CAN DISMANTLE THE TOP&SIDE COVER THEN REWINDS/FAST FOWARD TAPES SEVERAL TIMES. HOPE THIS WILL REMOVE ANY STICKY PARTICEL ON TAPES.

TO REFINE THE ABOVE PROCEDURE; HOLD AT A DISTANCE A HAIRDRYER AND SPOT THE BLOWING HEAT TO THE SURFACE OF THE TAPE WHILE REWINDING TAPES (USE APPROPIRIATE TEMPERATURE FROM THE HAIRDRYER). SOME BELIEVES THIS WILL RECONDITION MAGNETIC COMPOSITION INSIDE THE TAPE.

THERE'S NO GUARANTEE WHATSOEVER ON ABOVE TIPS BUT IT'S WORTH TO TRY, REALLY......

Just a quick note to Say

I have also notice that the sound from Beta Hi-Fi is just WOW!! compared to VHS Hi-Fi. It is unbelievable how the sound is, there is just such a big difference between the two of them, it is crazy.

I think if you just have a dvd player hooked up to you TV sound would also be no much for the Beta Hi-Fi, it makes you feel like you are really there.

Thanks AgainDamow

Hello Again from Sunny Queensland

Thanks Noel for the information, but it was not what you suggested. It seemed that the SL-HF100 and the Toshiba V-31 were to close to the TV and when I moved it further away from the TV, it is now working fine.

It must of been interference from the TV.

I do have another question thought, fungus or mildew on tapes, how to remove it. I want to watch the tapes so dumping them is not an option. At the moment I am just playing them thought and it seems fine. Any suggests or hints are welcome.

Yes Craig, I am in Brisbane.

Thanks AgainDamow

Craig,

As far as I know the sharpness control on a HF950 only affects the playback. If the lines were diagonal I would suspect a power supply issue (capacitors) or otherwise check that the tuner is not overloaded. The FM broadcast transmissions can mix into the TV band if you have strong signals.

Damow, Whereabouts in Queensland are you from? I'm in Brisbane; let me know if you're nearby. Great to see so many new Beta enthusiasts- some quite young, since my last posting months ago... SLHF 950 peculiarity: Always recording in Super Pro mode on Super Pro tape, I've always liked to have the picture on the 'soft' setting, always achieving a perfect picture and sound. Recently though upon playing back a movie I taped, I noticed for the first time horizontal white lines all over the picture which only disappeared when I recorded with the picture setting on 'sharp.'Not a major problem, but would like to know what's causing it all the same, if any other 950 owners have experienced same.Cheers, Craig, Brisbane, Australia.

Damow,

Regarding your problem above at least on the SLHF100, check that it is recording both HiFi and linear (normal sound). If it is not laying down a normal sound track then most likely the bias transformer has failed. This also means that previous recordings are not being fully erased befor eth new track is recorded leading to bleed though of the prevous syncronising pulses bothe vertical and horizontal.

Hi Homer:The cassette drawer is motorised and as it slides outwards the cassette slot tilts upwards. It's quite something to watch and very unique to a vcr.Especially as the whole drum assembly is attatched and moves forward at the other end......................Kevin

Greetings

Just for the sake of satisfying one's curiosity, I have never seen a 750 / 950 operating. Is the drawer motorized or does it need to be pulled out and pushed in by hand ?

Wayne, what type connector does it have? I assume either a 4 pin DIN or XLR. It needs 14.7V DC / 600mA. If it is a DIN connector, as far as I can tell, GND goes to Pin 4 and DC goes to pin 2. But do check how the connector is wired up or you could damage the machine.

Hi all, I have just been given a Sony Portable Beta VCR model SL-3000. There is nothing wrong with the machine but I need the pinouts of the power plug and also the output voltages of the power adaptor as it didn't come with one. Any information will be a great help. Thanks Wayne

Hello All from Sunny Queensland, Australia.

I herd about the beta video machines, then one day about 2 years ago I saw a Sony Betamax in a junk or second Hand Shop for $40 Australian dollars. I brought it home and the first thing I did to get some information and I found this great web site.

I looked at the model number and it was a SL-C9AS and it had a remote. I cleaned the tape path and heads and it worked great, besides the clock and tv, due to dc to dc converter.

I put a wanted ad in the paper and got 300 beta tapes for $100. Great I thought and the machine worked for a year, until the loader broke. I put it in to the repair shop and they could not fix it after 9 months.

I have been looking for other betas since and I got a Toshiba v31 from a friend for $50, it is in brand new condition.

Then I wanted Hi-Fi sound but I got one off eBay and it broke in the post. Today I got a working SL-HF100AS for $155 AUD and it is working and the sound it fantastic, much better then VHS Hi-FI. So now I have a Working SL-HF100AS and a Broken One.

I am 20 years old and the machine is older then me, but I am hooked and I hope to get a SL-HF950 sometime soon.

I have one issue with both the V31 and SL-HF100, they both have vertical blue lines down the left hand side, I thought was interference, but it cannot be because I turned everything off or do I need a older tv. Any ideas.

I did not have the problem on the SL-C9.

ThanksDamow, from Sunny Queensland
