Many thanks to both Kevin & Stuart for those responses. I do actually have a Sanyo VTC 9300 which I bought a couple of years ago from (of course) eBay. Considering I only paid around 20 for it it's in superb shape (the postage was the killer - what an absolute beast), and I've not experienced any real playback problems....as yet....out of interest, how much would an overhaul cost Kevin?

With regards to DVD transfer, I didn't realise it would be as simple as a single lead....how straightforward. The sound would most definitely be mono, as my aim is to compile and archive old TV material.

Cheers again gentlemen.

Hi GSCALE,

Re beta transfer to dvd, K Lambert said exactly what I was going to say. Most betas sold on ebay will require at the very least a good head clean along with capstan pinch roller clean. Done in the correct manner without those obnoxious cleaning tapes I might add! You can find 100% serviceable betas on ebay which have already had such work done, Mr Lambert does Sanyo s as he has said, however I do my best for sonys, especially slc9s, and every c9 I sell has had a thorough clean both inside and out and tested. Though due to the amount of time and effort spent on them when repairing (with c9s this can require replacement of the loading mechanism, power supply swap to get a machine working again) I sell them at what some would consider a high price 175-225 depending on external condition of the cabinet and other things like if manual or remote is included. But it will work 100% which you cannot be sure of when buying a beta which has been found after being stored for years etc. Also what audio do your tapes have? Mono, linear stereo or hifi stereo? If you wish to preserve stero sound when copying to dvd you will need a linear or hifi stereo betamax depending on the type of stereo your tapes were recorded with.

Hi GSCALE:You won't get 'betamax to DVD' machine on the high street.I regularly service and overhaul the Sanyo beta's to 100% condition. The other make most prevalent is Sony. These machines are sought after too but a lot can have head wear and other faults which means they're non viable to most individuals who know nothing about vcr's.I would suggest you take a look on E-bay.Theres always some on there but be careful, a lot are unserviced ( probably never in their lifetime) and most will have dried up belts and idlers which means the vcr will chew you tapes or not work at all.As for copying to DVD you need the appropriate lead for connection to your DVD player and the Beta machine and away you go.Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK.....................KevinGood luck too

Evening everyone. Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but I'm wondering how I can transfer my Betamax tapes to DVD...? There are obviously numerous models on the market (I'm in the UK) which will allow transferral from VHS to DVD, but I've not seen any which offer the same for Betamax.

I've been trying to find an answer online, but all I can find at present are businesses who offer transferral as a service. Is it possible to buy a Betamax to DVD recorder on the high street? If so, would anyone recommend a particular model?

Many thanks,

G

Externally charged your NiMH is the safest way of resolving your concern.

Hello all, bit quiet here recently....anyway, I am lloking for batteries for my f1. I have only been able to find new ones in nimh...the original was nicd. Question is is it possible to use an nimh in the f1? I am not thinking of the use of one in an f1 being the problem as power is power whatever battery it comes from, rather the charging of an nimh battery in a unit designed to charge nicd. The two battery technologies are different in their charging methods....would it damage my f1?

Cheers kevin. I have posted the answer to this problem in the f1 technical section as I cant believe this is the only f1 with this problem.

WAY TO GO Stuart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I know that feeling when you successfully find and make 100% a problem or issue.Acheiving that means more than money ( to me anyways).Congrats, especially as you can't exactly go to the store and buy new spare parts for most unserviceable items.......................Kevin

Stuart,

I am glad you could fix the switches. I must admit I assumed they had collapsed internally like the timer switches on Sony SLC7s.

Hi again, I have had a play with the hh1 board in my f1 and it was a button stuck down which was causing the rest to either not respond or give the wrong channel number when pressed. I have again had the covers off and oiled the microswitches with model railway plastic friendly light oil, wiggled each microswitch up and down 20 or so times each, and they all work perfect now after reassembly of the unit.So no replacement hh1 required now, however I do need a viewfinder for an hvc2000 camera which has all the connection pins intact and straight. I got one with the f1, and although the camera works, the viewfinder has two pins broken off making the camera useless. Can any one help with this one please? Cheers.

Stuart,

What a coincidence. I just repaired a TTF1 tuner with the same problem. All but one of the pushbutton switches had collapsed internally. How I fixed it was to replace the switches with roughly the same width by length dimensions but they were short on height. I mounted each of them on a foam base and extended the switch contact leg lengths with tinned copper wire in order to solder them to the board at the right height. Its a bit fiddly but it works.

cheers Noel

Hi there guys. I need some assistance. I got an f1 today in superb condition, only ever been used with the hvc2000 camera it came with, never as a tv vcr. Anyway with non use the channel 1 - 12 buttons on the tuner were stuck fast. Uphot is that I cracked a solder track or maybe the board itself trying to free them. I now need a replacement hh1 board for an f1 tuner. Does anyone have one in known working condition they don t require? Needs to be in the uk and I am happy to pay 10 plus postage for it. Cheers.
