Hi Emil

When I put tapes in and play them, The picture jumps constantly all the way through. I did get some advice from another Betamax enthusiast, but, even with cleaning the whole of the inside, using a cleaner tape and using an air spray can, it still was the same. The colour is perfect, so is the sound and the machine makes no noise but, it jumps every second. So I dont know whats wrong with it. I am interested in your machine but dpends on pric and delivery. Thanks

My C6 Front Loader Does Not Work

So, I am looking for either another C6 or any other Front Loader. God knows why but, I just prefer the front loader to the top loader lol. Thanks

That stereo light on the C9 was always an issue. Mine does the same so don't worry about it.

Hi Alex

Glad you got the issued solved with the DC-DC converter and the tape path. :)

Regarding the Stereo light on the front. It should not light whenever you do a linear recording on the SL-C9 or other Beta VCRs. The pilot light is only for factory recorded tapes in linear stereo. If the light goes on and off then there could be some issues with the detection circuit on the TU-24 board. Around IC201 there is sitting 4 Tantalum caps 0,47F 16V, try replacing those and see if the pilot light turns off.

Hi all Thanks Emil for the post, after cleaning the tape path and scrubbing the pinch roller now all sorted, also just changing the electrolytics fixed the display now nice and bright. Now though however the stereo light comes on for two seconds then off then on for another two seconds then dead for the rest of time unless the power is switched off at the mains. However stereo is recorded and played back, this isn't a biggy but It would be nice to fix if it dosent entail much

Hi Alex

How does the image look on the screen? Does the sound have flutter on it? It could be bad capacitors on the Capstan board. Or maybe a defective Hall element on the capstan board as well making the speed unstable. But also check if the pinchroller is correctly engaged and doesnt mangle the tape. And check the ACE head. Give it a good clean. :)

If you need parts for the DC-DC converter, you can purchase all the transistors on Ebay. I recommend using the store called Little-Diode. Do NOT try with substitute transistors. They simply wont work. Replace the electrolytic caps as well, using 105C good quality brand.

Good luck reviving the C9. I got 2. One silver and one black. :)

If you need service manual, then i have it. Contact me by mail.

Kind regards

Emil

OK, another issue to put past all of you, recently acquired a SL-C9, this has the usual DC-DC issue which i am rebuilding, however this is a weird issue i have never seen before, when on play, the picture is terrible and the sound is likewise, however on any other speeds, frame, 1/10, 1/5, x2 ect it shows the image fine. What could this be ?

Ok I have solved the problem with the low volume on the SL-3000, In this case it was the switch that is for record, the contacts were dirty. No doubt due to not been used for many years and been stored in a shed.

Hi Guys:

Another thing that can cause low audio is the main audio IC.I've seen that in Sony C6 's and Sanyo M40's (for the mono sound). It could also be the alignment and head azimuth.

I adjusted the gain pot and the volume increased but still very low. I wonder if it needs the caps replacing?

Thanks Emil,

The audio seems very low, I gave the ACE head a good clean and looks fine.I will check out the circuit to see if that changes anything, sadly I do not have a manual but I am trying to track one down.

Hi James

Is the Audio "muffled" or is it just low in volume?

The ACE head have a tendency of being worn before the videoheads, so i recommend always to remove it from the fasten screws and give it a good scrub and polish. Do not temper with the azimuth controls.

If the Audio is low in volume, then take a look at the audio part of the thing. Its a simple circuit, and there is a gain pot in order to increase the volume. A service manual will be handy. :)

Kind regards

Emil

Hi guys,

I have a Sony SL-3000 with very low sound, could this be the audio heads or a component gone bad?
