Neil:

There is a site I use that you can get on PDF for a few pounds any vcr service or owners manual.

The site is called...https://www.owner-manuals.com/index.php?main_page=index

You have to register and then put in the model you are looking for.

I've used this six times for really obscure items and they always have it.

You have to wait a few hours before you manual is sent to you by e-mail then you log in on the site go to downloads and download it to your PC or whatever you use. Then open it up at your leasure.

Hope this helps.I recommend the site highly. They also offer different ones for different countries.

Sony UK is 'UB' and European ones especially for the UK are usually 'E'.

Hope this helps...................Kevin

If those heads are Ok especially Hi-Fi ones (some don't realise they are worn as the ordinary mono edge track ones cut in if the Hi-Fi ones are worn or mis tracked).

Then I would grab them.

What you will need are new belt's the grooves that the idlers touch refreshing with a needle to give more grip, Two new idler tyres (don't worry about the whole assembles as the tyres are usually all that's required) and maybe a resistor upgrading if the tape doesn't go into the cassette when all those are changed.

The tracking control pot's can be loose inside but you can repair them. Hope fully those will just need the rubber components renewed and good clean and slight re lube to the bearings.

Hey Kev.

That is very decent of you to offer. How would I go about a) finding the PSU, (I think there is an on line service manual I could find??), & b) How would I extract it??

Cheers, Neil.

The PSU is located where the mains wire goes in.It's and rectangular, silver looking piece

It has a few screws and plugs to unsecure and then it slides out.

Usually with Sony's the screws that need removing have and arrow engraved in the metal.

It isn't many screws ,they are located on the side, rear and back.

Hope this helps...............Kev

hi Neil:

If you want to remove the PSU from your 950 and send it to me would make things a lot easier. I can check them for you.

I do have a feeling though that's it's not the PSU causing your high drop out's.

Barrie.

Could be many things with your VTC 5000. Fuzzy colour is not normal for them. Check the bottom board for dry joints or even damage or leaky capacitors.

If you want to send it to me that is an option.

Hi Kev.

Regarding your previous post to me regarding my excessive drop-out problem on my SLF950.

The caps in the PSU of the 950 can go high ESR too, eventually wiping out transistors and a fusible resistor.

Err, how do I check for this fault, & if you can help on the parts front, could you talk me through how to complete the repair. (Treat me like an idiot, won't be difficult!)

Cheers, Neil.

Andrew, to echo Kevin's sentiments, my condolences on the death of your partner. By the amount of videotapes and machines available, was he also interested in the archiving of vintage broadcasts, and perhaps a contributor of footage to various websites? If so, it might be an idea to let those other sites aware as well...

Some of the items you have offered are also of interest to myself as well as others, but collection is not possible, so only if you are able and now in a position to make these available for courier collection, please let me know as and when you can.

Many thanks.

Phil

Hello, I have a Sanyo VTC5000. It is in working order but the picture rolls and displays fuzzy over saturated colours. I have replaced the large capacitor on the small power board but that has had no effect. Please can anyone help?

Hello.

My partner passed away very suddenly in December. He was a poster on here and he loved his obscure video machines.

I've been sorting out his belongings and he has lots of Betamax and a video2000 machine.

Video2000 is a Pye 20vr23 in full working order with approximately 100 videos.

Also there are 8 Sony slhf100ub videos in full working order. 4 sanyo vtc5000 in full working order. 3 Sony slc7, 4 Sony slc9ub, 8 Sony slhf950ub (3 in the box), 2 Sony slf30ub. Toshiba v9600b, NEC 790, and there is about 2000 Betamax video tapes. A mix of blank tapes and old rental from the Gloucester video centre.

If any of you would like to come and collect them in south Wales you're more than welcome.

Regards.

Andrew.

I've been storing a Sony SL8000UB video recorder (No. 200111) for many years. In fact since we bought it from new. The tape eject tray will not stay shut but otherwise I believe the machine to be in good order.

If anyone is interested in taking this machine off my hands they can gladly have it as long as they are prepared to pick it up from Leeds.

Please let me know ASAP as I am having to clear the space and I am finding it very hard to make that final trip to the Council Tip.

Absolutley and if it's anything like our (UK) M30 you will love it. It has three heads for perfect still frame /slow motion plus a illuminated tape remaining indicator.

many thanks, finally i managed to find the belts and pinch roller, now i hope the VCR will back to life.

As i supouse you remenber many months ago we talk about sanyo nx30 and m40 and m50.

M40-50 are a rara avis in Spain, i cant find one, but i have seen a nx30 at very good Price, and it Works.

I dont know if this model can be better than my nx10.

I know the nx10 is a basic model, so do you think the nx30 is a good option to buy?

Many thanks

Jose:

The belt kit,s, if they are like the CLASSIC PARTS ones, will have four belt's. This will cover a few Sanyo models.

The ones you will need are the smallest one (reel drive) the second size one (tape loading ring motor) and the largest one (for the cassette insertion mechanism),on your model.

The pinch rollers too from CLASSIC are incompatible with the ones that fit the earlier Sanyo models including top loaders. The NX100 /10 and other incarnations have a different diameter bearing hole. Only slightly but enough to stop the older types from fitting and letting the pinch roller spin freely.

If your going by your vcr's belt's diameters or circumference always remember to allow a few millimetres for stretch on the old ones.

Hope this helps and let us know if those pinch rollers are OK. If so I may be needing some :)

.Cheers..................Kev
