Berny,

You can use high-band tapes in SP machines. You will have high-band quality which is close to SP quality.

Keith,

The time code reader/generator was optional for the VO-9800/9850. The reader/generator is positioned behind the control panel. (BKU-704 is a time code reader and the BKU-705 is a time code reader/generator) To operate the dial menu you need the users manual. A monitor connected to the output shows the data and items selected. (Don't forget to supply video to the input of the VCR). Maybe 15 is an error code. But the monitor screen will tell you that. If it is an error code and you want to know what it means I can look it up in the manual.

K McHugh,

The TBC can not be integrated inside the VO-9800/9850. You can only use an external TBC.

Mark,

The VO-5630 uses the RM-420, RM-555 or RM-500. If you want to record frame by frame you need a timecode based editing system. The VO-5630 is not accurate enough. You can use for instance a VO-9850 or even better BVU-950 with its internal editing controllers.

Tim,

The VO-5630 is low-band.

I have a Sony SL-HF400 that has not power to it. The removable fuse appears to be alright but there is a solderd fuse that appears to be blow. Could this be the problem? How do I get the power to work again? Do I need a new power supply? Can I get a schematic diagram anywhere? I would appreciate any help at all.

Thanks, Rick

Hey Chris!

Sounds like it could be a gear with broken/missing tooth or something is frozen/needs lube. You are on the right track. Check everything related to the tape loading mechanism.

If it should move freely make sure it does, look for anything unusual or broken pieces. Check all you can topside thats easy to access.

You may have to get under it for a really effective troubleshooting, prepare yourself for possibly mean dissassembly of the machine and write down what you do, because they dont make them easy to repair. Thats so you have to take it in for Service! lol.

good luck.

Another thing about this Sony VO9800P - was the timecode reader an optional extra ? I have a tape with timecode that was made on a BVU800P... this VO9800 light's up it's "timecode" light during playback - but the display only ever ready the control track regardless if the switch is in the CTL or TC position for the time display.

Also anyone know anything about the "dial menu" - if I select it the time display flashes "15" ??

Thanks,

Keith

Hi everybody! I have a problem with an old 3/4" VCR: JVC PR-900E. The problem is this: when I insert the tape, the VCR give me the error message 72. The user's manual tells me: "supply reel motor stops". Sometimes I get the error not immediately after the insertion of the tape but a few seconds after I have tried to move the tape with PLAY or using the JOG/SHUTTLE wheel (both in FWD or RWD direction). Anybody can help? I cannot find any service manual. Sometimes the VCR works fine... if I move by hand the tape wheels a little and insert the tape again, sometimes the VCR starts.. but I need it works fine always! I know this VCR has no value at all now because of new digital format, but I would like to keep it in my studio fully working (it has so nice colored button lights!) Hope somebody can help me. Thank you!

Does anyone have any info on the Sony VO-9800P ? It has a T.B.C. switch - but under the control panel it looks like some boards are missing - was the T.B.C. an optional extra like it was for the BVU-900/950s ?

Thanks.

Dino,

Is it a VO-9850 or a BVU-950? Never heard of a BVU-9850. But if it uses a TBC it must be a BVU-950. The Y/C output is not a Y/C 443 and not compatible with SVHS or Betacam SP. Convertors may be available but probably expensive.

Sorry Jesse. But I just got her and I like her. It works when once I get the tape to thread so it's not the worst thing. I used to have a V05800 and I thought that was great. Now I got the BVU-800 and it blows the VO5800 away. You can find BVU-800 's going very cheap now on E-bay.

I was stunned. I used to see them going for atleast 300. Now they can't sell them for 150, and that's working! Check it out.

I wouldn't pay that much, esp. for a USED deck. Try ebay (http://www.ebay.com) for a used player. I think that anything upwards of $250 for a player is just a rip-off.

Hello.

I am having a problem with my BVU-800. It won't thread the tape or do anything unless I manually move the gear on the gear box. Is the gears gone or does it need a new belt? I bought it used so I'm not sure how long it has sat. The gears just may need to be greased. Any help is appreciated.

Hello. I'm new here but I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I have.

I have a BVU-800 and when I put a tape in it just sits there and does nothing. It tries to do something but can't. The lights are one too. I manually move the gear box for the loading mechanism and wham! It works. I'm thinking a new belt or the gear box needs to be re-greased. It's hard to know because I bought it as a broken item off of e-bay. Infact the seller couldn't get it to even power up. I've pretty much fix it all up except for that. I'm totally new to BVU-800. I used to have a VO5800 and it was alot different as far as make up.

Any help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.Chris

Hi everyone, I have sound problems with my Sony 5630. When I record through the usual line-chinch inputs, the sound is very distorted yet very low volume. When I do the same thing in Channel 1 Dub the sound is perfect. Where could that problem be, what components are failling? Playing is flawless, dubbing as well but ordinary recording is barely audible and worse than bad fm-reception driving a car in a tunnel. Adjusting levels or limiter doesn't affect it at all, except from changing from low volume to inaudible.Any help appreciatedRobert

One of our teachers recently unearthed two umatic tapes which she would like to use. Are there any umatic tape players in southern New Hampshire, USA and if so, could the tape be converted to VHS or DVD? Thanks, Peter

i am looking forsome info on a panasonic ag-7450 video camera

The AG-7450 is not a camera, that unit is a dockable SVHS deck for ENG/field use. ITs often confused for the name of a camera, but it will dock directly to a WV-F250, 565, and to the CLE -200. 300 with an adapter.

Cost around $ 3000 new but I have picked up nice units for under $ 200 online. You will pay a significant amount more for the 7450 with the camera head, lens, and viewfinder.

Since these systems can appear in many different configurations its hard to put a price on them. A ballpark figure: $ 800 -$1000 for the camera head, lens, ENG Viewfinder, AG-7450, and case. A studio viewfinder, power supply, battery and tripod will probably cost you more.

good luck

For all those people looking for manuals, try these people: http://www.hcsd.com.au/hcsd_of.html

Simon: To transfer from umatic, or any other VCR, you'll need a serious capture card for your PC. Don't go for the cheap ones as they will loose you a lot of detail. You'll need a large SCSI hard-drive, standard drives are too slow for video capture. Cables: BNC for the video output of the umatic machine and either RCA or XLR, depending on the umatic model, for audio. If you plan to do a lot of transfers without any editing or changes, you may be better off purchasing a dedicated DVD recorder.

Beta Betamax and Umatic tapes for sale.

The stock available is property of Films unlimited cc. This company was previously the supplier of Eastman Kodak Professional video and motion picture film to the South African market. All products are brand new and in original sealed packaging. All of these products were originally intended for local broadcast stations that now only use betacam metal tape and a very little Umatic ¾ inch tape. The tape we have available is only suitable for standard betacam or consumer application. All tapes are XHG and/or HG.

The following is available: Quantity Umatic ¾ – KCS 10 250 KCA 10 10 KCA 20 40 KCA 30 550 KCA 50 40 KCA 60 60

Beta ½ - L125 1500 L250 2040 L500 4080 L750 1000

VHS - E180 400 E120 160 E90 240

We are looking to export the entire consignment or the bulk thereof to 1 or a few customers only as South African shipping systems are not geared for US-style delivery systems. Many small orders will not be profitable or possible both economically and logistically.

We are looking for approximately $20 000 onco for the entire lot. Please contact me if you are interested or perhaps know of any other interested parties.

I have recently acquired a BVT-500 to work with my 5850/RM-440 set-up.The problem I have is that the output signal ever so slowly scrolls, about 2-3 lines a second. And not smoothly but in little jumps. It happens both in DUB and Composite outputs.I can't find any adjustments in the manual. Suggestions anybody?

Thanks, Roderick
