I don't understand PAL ... or rather, why you cannot play VHS in PAL in Canada/North America? I'm desperately wanting to buy some stuff from Britain but am told tapes in PAL cannot be played here. Can anyone un-ignorant me?

To Mike. Check your actual SCART connector. These connectors may be convenient compared to the old BNC/Phono type but are pretty flimsy by comparison. Check that non of the pins on both ends have come loose and been pushed back. I have had this happen many times. Also, when you put the vcr into place, make sure the connector doesn't get forced out. When this happens, generally you lose the picture, but not the sound. Rich..

To mike [above]

The SCART output on the VR2324 is standard configuration. If it isn't outputting anything then it's probably down to a dry joint on the PCB. Philips were the pioneers of such things like SCART. At the time everyone said 'oh no, you can't use something like that, you need proper phono and BNC connectors' and they snubbed VCRs without such connectors - how wrong were they? Where would the general public be without SCART? Admittedly it's not the best of connectors, but it's frightening the amount of people who ask me how to hook up a DVD, VCR and Sky/cable box to their TV.

Tony,

I believe the Philips 1702 is system before V2000, and there is a group for fans on Yahoo, where you should be able to get info and maybe sell VCR.

Good luck

VicRe head replacement. Maybe Philips can supply details of service engineers in your area and one may know the machines and be able to fix it. As you already have the new part, they should be able to do it. Failing that, just go through Yellow Pages til you find someone willing to have a go. Good luck.

I have an ITT VR580 and 12 video cassettes that I wish to sell. Could someone offer a view on what this is worth? I was planning on selling all this on ebay. I should say that the player has a defect where it switches out of "play" moments after the button has been pressed. I remember looking into this at the time and it seemed like it may be a common problem witha particular sensor. Please let me know your thoughts.

For sale: complete PHILIPS VIDEO 2000 camera

Haven't got the exact model number but it's a PHILIPS portable from 83 with everything included. It was working fine last time I used it (albeit some years ago) - for filming, viewing and connected with a VHS for copying.

Camera, microphone, normal lens, wide lens, 2 batteries, battery charger, recorder in its original case with shoulder strap, cables and manual (in Swedish) as well as the receipt.

The best that money could get back in 83 :-)

Goes to the highest bidder. The camera is currently in Sweden, but can be taken to Belgium for pick-up / shipping?
