Hi - first time ever on a chat page - so apologies if my web etiquette is poor.

I have a Phillips N1500 VCR unused since 1976. It has been hermetically sealed for the last decade and in a cupboard for the fifteen years or so before that. Last weekend I rediscovered a couple of cassettes and would like to see if I can get it to play that episode of Kojak supposedly on one of the cassettes.

First problem I have is no power lead - it's a double hexagon shape like none I can remember with the live and neutral perpendicular to one another (no earth). Does anyone know where it might be possible to get a lead?

Also am I likely to be wasting my time on such old equipment (there's a sticker inside dated March 1974!)?

Any hints, encouragements, discouragements all appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

ASL

Due to the need to reduce the size of my V2000 collection, the following machines are (reluctantly!) available: Grundig 2x4 Super in excellent condition, with operating instructions, Service Manual (original) and photocopy, 3 remote-control receivers and 2 handsets, plus second (working) machine with damaged heads, plus other spares; Grundig 2x4 Plus in good working order and good appearance, with photocopy of Service Manual, and second machine in poor condition for spares; two Philips VR2020 machines, both in excellent condition, with two sets of original operating instructions. Some tapes available if required. Offers for the lot, or might split.

Hello,

Can somebody help me with the following problem. My VR2024 gives b/w picture in playback and e-e mode. After some time the color comes. It has something to do with the chroma board (I think). Witch parts should be replaced?

Hi Christian (nordkorea),

I want to know that which between Grundig model VCR-5000AV or SVR-5005? Is it exist, yes or no?Is see the site list VCR/VCR-LP/SV: http://www.eclipse.co.uk/mikey/vcrlist.html

Dual standard VCR / VCR-LP model. Switchable on record, but automatically switched between VCR and VCR-LP on playback. Had video input / output facility. It's VCR/VCR-LP for recording/playback only without SV.

Hello,

more VCR messages than V2000.... but in a way the VCR System was a predecessor of the V2000.A VCR message board ( and site ) would be great.I have talked with an old GRUNDIG worker last week, the VCR 5000 was planned as a multinorm VCR (VCR, VCR-LP, SVR), but was never built, because of the success of the V2000 System. Only schematics exist. This would have been great, because the three systems are really wasting space in my living room.

Mark,

I am not complaining about use of this page. My point is that readers with the N1500 range may have more luck if they contact the user group on Yahoo but they do not seem to take this action.

The reason I write is to try to give helpful info or advice when I can.

Free to anyone who can collect. Philips N1500 VCR (first domestic VCR - museum?) and N1700 VCR with some cassettes. I don't think either work. 2 Hanimex 8mm cine projectors (one super8 - again both need attention). Bell and Howell video presenter (old and needs servicing). Various other old stuff which should be skipped but just in case someone somewhere can use it. First caller must agree to take the lot (what you do with it afterwards is up to you but it must be removed from my premises in Peterborough).Email me at [email protected] (remove the astrisk* - I have had to do this to stop spam; my penis is large enough already, thanks).

I have a Grundig V2000 machine which I bought new in Germany in 1984. It has been well used but I haven't played anything on it since 1995. I have just got it down out of the atic after seeing this site. It doesn't seem to fit in with any of the models listed on the site. It has the symbol "EU=RO" and the model name "Video 2x4M" on the front. On the back it has Best. Nr. 850 (order No 850),serial number 72629.

It used to work before I put it up in the atic (In it's original packaging)After seeing the site I decided to try it out again. However, now it won't thread itself.

Is it worth my wile trying to get it to work? I still have about 30 cassettes, some of which have material on them I'd love to see again

Any input from people with more experience than me would be more than welcome

Chris

I've scanned the service manual of the Video 2000 2x4 super machine made by Grundig.I left out the tuner parts as well as some of the spare-parts lists as well as notes and stuff. It's scanned with 300dpi and compressed to JPEG. A page is about a meg large.http://casandro.dyndns.org/service_manuals/

Ohh, BTW you can donate if you want to help scanning more manuals. :)

Hi everyone!

About half a year back, I was at a flea-market where I found a V2000-player/recorder (I think it was an ITT 580 ). I didn't know much about it though, so I didn't buy it. I went there again today and it was still there. The price was about $50 with some cassettes included, and the seller showed me that it works. Now, the question which I would like you enthusiasts to answer is: Should I buy it?

Hi all,

I picked up a Video200 machine yesterday complete with some tapes (and all for 50p) itís a Grundig V1600 2x4

The machine is in great cosmetic condition, but seems to have a few faults.

When a tape is playing the sound is muffled and quiet with changes in pitch, is this just a simple clean of the audio head or something else?

The picture is a little grainy but not too bad, rewind and fast-forward is good.

I canít seem to tune in any channels using the tuner, nothing is picked up on the uhf band, is this serious or a simple fix?

Also does anyone know the pinouts for the av din plug or better still a copy of the manual / service manual

Thanks

Bill

I'm looking for home movies filmed on V2000 for a new LWT show. The footage really has to be taken in London because it a regional show I'm afraid. I've some the show blub below but if you have any V2000 stuff that you can't play anymore or would like to reminisce about drop me a line. Stuart 020 7633 2573.

LWT invites you to share your home movie memories with the rest of London. Working in conjunction with registered charity the London Film Archive, London Weekend Television are producing a new programme which will look back over the last century through Londoners own home movie footage.

Any format of film or video footage, any subject matter. If you are willing to recollect your movie memories on TV we would very much like to hear from you.

Does anyone have service information on the Philips VR2324 ?I'm not sure if this machine has worn heads - or if it's the tapes which were all recorded between 1981-83. It's the typical "bearding" effect on peak whites in the pictures.

Hello!

I am currently looking for a working V2000 machine. I have approx 15 tapes at home, some of which contain Video footage of my late father, and I am in need of a Video player so that I can transfer these to VHS. I am not bothered about record quality as I shall not be using this function

I do not mean to seem rude, but I am a student and so excessive prices and long distances may prove a problem. I would quite happily give this machine away to an enthusiast after I am finished with it as my main aim is to transfer family footage over to VHS.

I live in Presto (lancashire) and do own a car (25 years old!) so I can travel the surrounding areas.

Many thanks for all your time - I do hope this request is successfull.

Luke.

P.S WE do have a working Betamax recorder at home, as as part of a return favour I can transfer a few Betamax cassettes over to VHS!! :-)

Hi! I'm new to this list - I'm sorry if I am going off-topic here but I'd just like to ask/say one or two things. Firstly I have an old N1700 Philips VCR. It's working (largely) OK - most of the electronics are fine and the mechanical side of this VCR although it sounds "tired" (it takes forever to rewind) seems to be in order. The biggest problem though is that my N1700 has a problem in that colour is missing - everything recorded and played back is in black and white! There's a fuse on the main board (top right) which seems to do nothing so I'm guessing some voltage isn't making it to the board, indiciating a power supply fault - but what's wrong with the power supply I don't know :( (and I'd rather have a N1700 with a colour fault than a dead N1700!).

Also, can anyone tell me what's the best way to store/treat such an ancient machine to make sure it works for as long as possible? I tend to use the N1700 as little as possible, is this the best way? Can I carry out any general mantienence to prolong its life?

Finally if anyone has any old N1700 tapes they don't want :) please email me, I'm always after N1700 tapes (esp. if they have old material on!)

Thank you.

Hi Gize.

It is now 19 May 2003

I have two Grundig Video 2000 machines, a 2200 model and an 880 model. The latter has a removeable infra-red control unit and I also have the remote control for that (currently without active battery). One (the 880) hasn't worked for a good while, the other has only just been found to have ceased working. Which is a shame coz some of my old tapes have pix of my late wife on, and others are of historical interest, like Live Aid 1986.

Does anybody still repair these machines? Or does anyone know where I can get a replacement. Or as a last restort, anybody interested in 80 or more Video-2000 tapes?

Here's hoping there are answers to the earlier hopes.

...and by the way, I have also inherited about 100 old Betamax tapes (along with a Betamax machine, which works fine except for not giving sound over to my tele ~ which could be the tele's fault), most with western movies on, which I'd be happy to let go to a betamax aficionado.

Write soon, just to let me know this site is still alive.

For sale: Pye 22VR20/21VR20 video combination in original boxes. Mains power supply/timer/tuner unit & separable portable video recorder with two re-chargeable batteries. These batteries probably don't work. When playing cassettes the recorder produces a picture mostly covered in 'snow'. In fast-wind mode it pulls whichever end of the tape it reaches off the relevent hub instead of automatically stopping. Offers or part-exchange for a Grundig two speed Video 2000 recorder. I currently have available 2 Grundig 2x4 Super VCR's in good working order. I also have some tapes and instruction manuals. There is also a rare item which is the AV unit which plugs into the rear of a Philips V2020 /21 series to enable video/audio input/output.

I am located in the Manchester area and can deliver within 40 miles of the M60 as I travel a lot during the course of my work. The VCRs are not suitable for sending via the mail/courier due to the way the courier companies throw them about. If anyone is interested then e-mail with sensible offers for what is now becoming a rarity.

OFFER: hi there! I'm selling (or perhaps OFFERING) my Philips V2000 to any-one willing to copy my seven tapes into the VHS format. The reason why I cannot do this myself is because the video displays an image with a slight problem that I believe shouldn't be too difficult to solve. Anyway it won't cost you much and I'm no longer using it so drop me a line. I live in Portugal but I travel quite often...

Hello,Can anyone help me as I am located in Hampshire, UK and would like to borrow a Philips V2000 player for a day to allow me to transfer some old tapes. I would take extra special care with it (promised) as I could transfer this to DVD as I have the Philips DVD recorder. I would be happy to transfer some video tapes of your own to DVD if you would like?

Wanted - a good home for Video 2000 machines which must be disposed of, five in all - two Philips and three Grundigs. Free to someone willing to collect and save them from being dumped in the skips. I have a Philips 2020 and a 2022 (I think it's a 2022). Both worked the last time they were tested but the 2022 (mine from new) has an intermittent problem where it suddenly shuts down and powers off - I have heard that this is probably a dirty relay or pcb contact, or maybe a power supply problem. The Grundig units are two 2x4 Super's and a System 2000. The System 2000 has a problem with the cover not making the cover switch, other than this I haven't looked at it. Of the two 2x4's, one works well, the other works but has a problem with a slightly grainy picture - this has been proved by substitution to be the power supply and is probably a capacitor as this is a common fault. Just haven't had the time to do anything with them. If I can lay my hands on them (?) I have a User manual for the Philips 2022 and a User manual for the Grundig 2x4. I also have a Grundig 2x4 wireless remote control unit and I think I have a 'cable remote' for the Philips. PLEASE NOTE - These units MUST be collected from Hereford (lower Midlands). I neither have the time or the resources to and for courier collection so please don't ask. They have to be collected. First come, first served.

I have an old Philips VR6560(bought in 1983?):For the past 6 month the sound have started to go bad (Disturbance so loud that I cannot hear the real sound)and I have had to "heat"/run it for 10 min before the the sound is OK again. Obviously this is very anoying and I would like to do something about it.

I know only a little about electronics but I guess some of the electrolytic cappactors have gone bad but I do not realy know. (it is worth noting that sound from a prerecorded tape is OK without "preheating")

I do not have the circuit drawings (Where can I get them?) and do not know if this will be adifficult task to tacle.

Does anybody have any idea what is wrong and what can be done about it. I do not want to throw away the best VCR I ever bought and I think paying for a repair would be to expensive for an old recorder like this.ThanksEric

I have a Siera 20VR22 that I want to get rid off. If anybody wants it you can have it. Sometimes the tapes got stuck in the machine but I do not know if this was due to the bad state of the tapes or not. Otherwise it works fine.I live in Belgium and as I'm giving it away for free, I don't want to pay any shipping cost. You can mail me directly; if I don't get a reply within 2 weeks it'll have to go.

Hi Video 2000 fans,

internet official for CVC detail: http://bidouille.dyndns.org/~bruno/technicolor.htm

Epilog : CVC Technicolor VCRs have been largely marketed in Germany under the Quelle, Grundig and Uher brands as well. When the Video 2000 standard has been launched by Philips and Grundig, it was once planned to re-use CVC system as a Video 2000 derivative portapack format. For those who ignore it, Video 2000 was a system that used only the half width of a 1/2" tape to achieve video recording. So, as the audio cassettes, Video 2000 cassettes had two usable sides for recording and playback (no autoreverse machines were built). If you only use the half width of a 1/2" tape, that means that you record on a 1/4" width. The big idea was then to use a modified CVC system to record a Video 2000 compatible video tape that could have been played back on conventional decks with an adaptator (like the VHS-C). No further development occured... Well, where are we now, after all that babbling ?? But right here, I'll say..... Finding a CVC VCR today is quite an impossible mission today in France. But more, I ignored that other models than the portapacks existed. I don't think that the VCR pictured below ever existed in SECAM and had been imported here.

Bye Sergio

Can anyone advise on alternative formats ?I have just found the most amazing stash of old video equipmentI am familiar with Betamax & V2000 (just picked up a BIG box of tapes) , & have heard of U-matic, but I've seen some items tonight which have really baffled meSome of the equipment is ex-Grampain TV studio - would I be correct in calling it "one-inch video" ? It uses heavy metal spools - there are several cased systems + tapesAlso, which shape is U-matic ?There are several boxes of tapes, some square, like my school used to use, but thee are also some huge oblong cartridges - any idea which format they might be ?
