More about N1700:

Anyone have a scrap Philips N1700? I need a drum motor. It's one of two motors on a bracket on the underside of the deck, and it's probably easiest to ship the pair of motors on the bracket. Anyone able to help? I'm in the UK.

Thanks for any help, Colin

N1500 tapes?

Not quite V2000 related, I know, though incidentally I do V2000 to DVD transfers if anyone needs them, see my web site http://www.colin99.co.uk/videocopy.html

I've just bought N1500 and N1700 machines, which I've been servicing. Trouble is, I have only one tape, and that is damaged (it jams because some of the plastic interior is disintigrating). So, does anyone have one or two of these tapes which they don't need, preferably with some recordings on them? I long ago donated mine to a museum and now regret it! Also, if you have an N1500 tape to transfer to DVD, I will do this for you if the machine fully works.

At present, the N1500 mechanically runs and seems ready to try. The N1700 needs more attention, it's not behaving properly.

Thanks for any help,

Colin

Hello everybody. I have a request to make not for a machine (although I'd like one - I had one in 1994 but I managed to wreck one of the heads). My query is slightly different.

I run a website which looks for old 'offcuts' of telly - stuff between the programmes. So, that means things like weather forecasts, promotions of forthcoming programmes, new season trailers, continuity/engineering/transmitter announcements, temporary fault announcements, programme menus/lineups/slides, and so on. Also anything unusual that may happen (such as unannounced 'test' broadcasts that may have accidentally been recorded at night or after a mid-morning programme after which testcard was scheduled). I am particularly interested in various ITV regional logos and collecting the various animations including them that will have been transmitted over the years.

If anybody has ANY clips at all of anything more than 20 years old, from the BBC, any ITV region or Channel 4, I would be very grateful if you would consider copying this material to DVD for me. The original tapes and indeed the programmes themselves would not be required. I would be happy to pay a small charge for the trouble.

Regards,Mark Boulton, London

I have a Philips VR 2020 and a Philips VR 2023. The 2020 has just been fired up after 6 years in storage and has just snapped one tape and ruined another one by wrapping itself round the tape heads. The VR2023 powers up ok but when the play button or rewind/forward preview the machine just switches off. Can anybody help me by pointing me in the right direction of a good quality repairer in the Manchester area or maybe swap or exchange the machines for a reconditioned V200 system.M Barnett

Part required for a Grundig 2x4 Model 1600: Anyone have a scrap Grundig 1600? This was a later model machine without Dynamic Track Following. The reel idler on mine has just shed some teeth, see picture here:http://www.colin99.co.uk/beta/v2000idler.jpgThe part possibly exists in other Grundigs.

Any help most appreciated. I will be trying Grundig service agents, but hoped someone here might have a spare which I could get more quickly.

Hi,Does anyone know of a reliable person / shop in the South West where I can get my Grundig 2 x 8 V2000 repaired? A chap on this forum has been trying to help me fix it myself (thanks Steve - I've sent you yet another mail!!) but I now think I will need to take it to a shop.Originally it had dirty heads/tape path caused by using a cassette purchased from E Bay but now I have an "F" error displaying and the cassette will not lace up. When trying to load a cassette but the player accepts it, then goes into FF or RW (?) but only one wheel seems to be moving which caused the tape to snap (and made a horrible noise!).Any help would be greatly appreciated as I desperately want to keep this great machine going.I can be contacted via e-mail - martyn.scott@sbs.siemens.co.uk

While clearing out someones house I have discovered an amazing collection of spare parts, manuals videos tapes and accessories. There are 3 grundig V2000 machines that are in working order, 6 that power up but need attention, 3 Philips VR2020, (1 in working order) the others power up lace the tape, unload then eject. There is also an external video / audio adapter for the Philips VR2020 /21 series that clips onto the rear of the VCR, still boxed and in as new condition. There are lots of V2000 tapes with various recordings etc.In addition there are lots of VCR service manuals for VHS Grundig,Philips & Ferguson machines. There is a lot more that needs sorting through which will take a while.I used to repair VCRs years ago and remember the V2000 well especially the Grundig 2x4 Super. Unfortunately, so far I have not found any video heads for V2000 machines. The non working ones I will try to repair and get up to a reasonable standard before putting them up for sale. There is also a dual beam Oscilloscope available with probes etc. If anyone has any specific requirements email me with your wants and I will let you know if I can oblige. I am located in North Manchester.

Hi guys,

I'm an old (not so old, I'm 41) V2000 fan ! I still own (all in SECAM, I'm french) : 2 VR 2334 (one is working but the heads...), 1 VR 2120 + 2220, 1 VR 2023 (working only in B&W, I think a little component has gone while watching a film during a storm ! Not clever, I know), a "like new" Radiola (=Philips in France) VR 2333 (same as 2340, but more recent, and with a different tape counter using the same panel as the clock) and I recently acquired a B&O 8802V perfectly working after cleaning. But I don't have the B&O remote control (The receptor is present inside the 8802). I tried to plug the remote control receptor of the VR2023 (the plug is present on the B&O), but it doesn't work, even when unplugging the B&O receptor...Any idea on how to adapt the Philips remote control on the 8802, or do you know someone who has one B&O remote for sale ?If you have pictures of the B&O remote control, you can send it by e-mail (I don't know what it looks like)...Maybe the good alternative must be to buy a universal remote...

Thanks for all guys, long live V2000, and sorry for my "not academic" english ! :)

Help,I have a Grundig V2000 2 x 8 player that was in excellent condition until I tried to play a film (from E-bay). Now plays with no colour and picture appears to "roll" very slightly from side to side. I assume the heads are dirty as I recently suffered exactly the same problem on a Sanyo Beta but I managed to find an old dry head cleaning tape which resolved the fault immediately. So, can anyone describe in detail how to clean the heads and tape path etc so that I can save my machine!Regards,Martyn Scott

V2000 to DVD transfers:

In case you are here because you want to be able to view some old V2000 tapes, I would like to mention that I offer this service at very competitive prices starting at just £15 (see http://www.colin99.co.uk/beta.html). I use two V2000 machines because some tapes play best with Dynamic Track Following models and some play best without, this means I can get the very best from your tapes. I also use a digital timebase corrector to improve the picture stability.

As well as V2000, I offer Betamax, VHS, Video8, Hi8, S-VHS and professional Betacam SP transfers to DVD. You can see testimonials to my work on the web site too.

Regards,

Colin

Hi! First, I'm in New York and I have to deal with a lot of PAL / NTSC conversions. I only recently discovered Video 2000. It happened as a result of someone sending me some tapes - and I didn't know what they were. I had never seen them before. I took them around to several professional duplication houses in NYC - and NOT ONE person had ever seen them before. No one had a clue. So I got a friend in Germany to find me a machine (Video 2000 2x8 Best Nr. 2080) and I just received it. However he didn't send any cables. Now I'm on a search for the cables. Does anyone know where I can get them? I specifically need the output cables which would go from the player to a German TV. I'd be looking for extra sets as well - since I'm sure I will ave to do a bit of splicing.

If like me you have come to this site looking for someone to transfer your Video 2000 tapes to a more current format I can recommend the services of Martin Potter who has a number of postings on this page.

When moving house I found a number of old tapes and Martin has successfully transferred them to DVD so I can once again see the old rubbish that I recorded back in the 80's. His service was both effective and reasonable so if you have a similar requirement then give him a call.

I can also be reached at dinosimon@yahoo.co.uk. Tel: (eve) 020 8983 0215

ThanksDino

A VR2025 which is switched onto play, and seconds later it shuts off into standby. It also shows no picture. Any comments like service manuals and other technical advices are welcome. In Nederlands would be quite o'rite.

Hello, I am new to this site. I have recently acquired a Phillips V2000 model 2021 machine. It has not been tested and has not been used for some time but when last used it was in working order. Is anyone interested in making me an offer? Also have 8 used V2000 tapes. Please contact me directly if you would like to know more on rosralfe@connectfree.co.uk

Dear friends. I have a problem with my VR-2340. It plays back and tunes only in black and white. No color at all. Everything else works fine. Does anybody have a service manual or schematics of this model? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in serious trouble with my V2000 machine. I was casually watching an old tape when suddenly I heard low crackling sounds from the machine (Siemens 304, identical to Grundig 2x4 Super) and the picture started to go bad. Knowing the tape was slightly damaged but had gotten a lot better from being viewed a few times I just pressed fast forward to get over the bad section. No chance. Only snow and sound. Now it's like that with all tapes. Any chance for rescue or is the head drum shot? If yes I'll have to look into fixing my old Philips. Please help me! I have about 60 V2000 tapes and would love to watch them again!

Hi Everyone

I am still trying to find a working V2000 model, I don't mind which. So if you have a collection you want to whittle down or are giving up due to space, time etc then please consider me as a good home for your treasure. Payment on your terms, I will come and collect wherever you are (I am in Wiltshire). This is the third time of asking and I just missed out on getting something nice on both occasions. Please help. Many ThanksChris

Which brand of tapes is in best shape today? I sometimes see stocks of video 2000 tapes where I live, it's mostly philips 480. No idea of their condition. I don't use them but if anyone truly needs tapes let me know.

also I'd like to repeat my post way up:

Could anyone provide me with a used V2000 tape by around 10th Feb 2005? Pay post and costs of course. I need to test a Grundig 2x4 (Grundig 1600) which I have just bought, before letting it loose on other people's tapes for DVD transfer. Alternatively, if you have a tape you want transferred to DVD, I'll do that free of charge for the donation of a tape. Thanks.

Hi All

My (not so) trusty Philips VR2020 has just died a slow lingering death and wish to try and replace it. It was halfway through saving my tapes recorded on my old ITT which passed away over a decade ago. If anyone can help, that would be gratefully accepted. Payment on your terms for a decent working model with some hours left in it. I am in North Wiltshire and will happily travel or rely on postman pat. Many ThanksChris

Hi! I'm new here, but I've been a collector of old video recorders for quite a while now. In fact, I have a few surplus V2000 machines that I'd like to dispose of (for free). It's been a while since I've tested them, but I have a VR2020 that should work, plus two others that probably don't work. I'm in north Bristol near the M4/M5 junction if anyone would like to get in touch and pick up one or all of these V2000 machines.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever seen Monty Python on video 2000.

Why? Well I am a fan and I noticed that due to it being around in the early eighties it came out on literally all possible media (CED betamax laserdisc vcd cdi 8mm film super8 film and super8 tape). Except that I never found any official vcc 2000 for monty python, life of brian, holy grail, how to irritate people, etc. So if anyone owns, or has seen this, please do mail me. Even if you don't want to part with it I'd still like to know.
