This follows on from one of my earlier posts about Pinch Rollers for the 2nd Generation of Philips machines. Whenever I've ordered ones for VR2324, VR2334, and VR2220(portable) the invoice always states them as VR6462. So I guess the VR6462 (VHS?) uses the same pinch rollers as the older 2nd generation V2000's (but NOT the older VR2020 /21/22/23 series)

Hope this helps. Keith.

Has anyone else got/used the uP diagnosis system for the VR series of machines? I managed to get hold of what looks like a complete system with manual with all the flowcharts for diagnosing any electronic trouble with these machines. Seems like you can control the entire system in individual steps (including the mechanism) by different buttons on the front panel (you've got to love Philips technology havent you!!). Very interesting stuff, just wondering whether anyone else had used this or got it?

My N1702 has the same problems - so I'd appreciate any tips on repairing it too. I've swapped all the servo cans over from another machine but it still won't stay laced up.

Thanks, Keith.

I've recently found 2 Philips VCRs N1500 and N1700 at a junk yard in Bulli. Now they both power up but the N1500 head doesn't freely rotate, and the N1700 powers up and the head drum moves to position but then I hear a click and the head drum moves back to its original position and the power shuts off automatically.

Is there any Philips VCR experts in this forum? If so could you possibly help me out on fixing these problems?

Hi Everyone

Ive been lucky enough to find a HUGE box of old Video 2000 tapes!!....I have a bit of a dilemma as im a keen collector of old ads and programming IDs from the 1970s and 80s and I dont have a player for this format (The annoying thing is that a lot of these tapes appear to be from the first generation of cassettes circa 1978!!)

I was wondering if there are any enthusiasts in the South West of England (Ideally within a sensible distance of Chard/Taunton/Yeovil) with a V2000 machine who would be interested in going through these tapes with me and transferring any interesting material to VHS

If I have no luck I suppose I will have to put them on Ebay!!.....I hate to do this as im sure these tapes are full of old fascinating ads and IDs!!

Any comments or help would be much appreciated

To make more sense they should have called it HVS not VHS as Home Video System sounds better than video home system.

You're right, Keith, that we really shouldn't be bothering with such trivialities of some inferior system. However, for the record, VHS was initially christened by JVC as "Vertical Helical Scanning" but then changed to Video Home System before launch because it was obviously much more friendly.

My prize for this extraordinary knowledge? A beauiful working 2nd generation Philips V2000 please!

The meaning of VHS - well I'd heard that "Video Home System" was the false one actually. And Video Helican Scan was the true one !! Who knows !! Why are we taking about it anyway this page is for the better format Philips Video2000.

Hi Trevor, VHS stands for nothing more sophisticated than Video Home System. Some thought it stood for Video Helical Scan because of the position of the video head in relation to the tape, but this isn't true.

(1)some number buttonsstick in, I believe this was a known fault, and (2) sound seems high pitched as if thetape is running too fast. Pinch Rollers for the VR2324, VR2334, VR2220(Portable) are still availible. I think they are the same as used in later VR6xxx VHS machines. I've ordered several recently when they arrive the invoice gives a VR6xxx model but they work perfectly. I'll try and find out what the model is and post the info.

To robert [above]

It might just be that the Pinch Roller is worn and causing the tape to snag on the guides. The machines you have are two of the best V2000 machines made - in my opinion [and the VR2324 is the same as the VR2334 - they just put a different front panel on it! The slow/ still/ reverse/ x3/ frame by frame and time elapsed/ remaining buttons are all there on the PCB, just no buttons on the panel - and the remote sensor is just not fitted.

You might be lucky and find video 2000 pinch rollers still available somewhere!

Hi V2000 fans. I have two Philips machines a VR2324 and a VR2334 and a lot of tapes which I want to transfer to VHS (or even better to SVHS). Unfortunately when I play the tapes they are being destroid due to a faulty capstand transport. The tapes (VCC480 type) are wringled and thus the other side cannot be played any more. Does any one know of this problen and has a solution? Or is there some one who wants to sell a working machine (In The Netherlands)?

Hello fellow V2000 enthusiasts. I'm clearing a bit of space in my flat and have two machines and a ton of tapes. The machines are: Philips VR2020 and Pye VR2023 - both in full working order and cosmetically very good. The Pye has the I/R sensor and a non-working remote control. I also have over 30 tapes for these machines. AND - the full SERVICE manual for the 2023. I'm looking in the region of £100 for the lot. Buyer to collect from east London. Thanks for your time guys.

I have a Philips VR 2414. I use it to demodulate the TV-cable signal to video signal so that my computer's video card understands it (it has video-in). The problem is that the VR 2414 automatically shuts down after some time when it's not playing or recording. And when I just use it as a tuner, it never plays back or records so that I have to switch it back on every now and then, which is quite irritating. Now I know that one solution is to just record everything I want to watch for more than a few minutes, but that doesn't really make things any easier. So it would be nice if anyone could tell me a way to remove the auto-off feature. There must be some component inside that shuts it down, but I've no idea which it is. Ofcourse I could just analyse all the circuit boards to find out but that would take ages :-(

So anyone who knows a few things about the VR 2414 and might have an idea how to solve this, please respond.

I have five V2000 machines - two Philips and three Grundig, some working and some not, three even have user manuals. I am sure that at least four of them have good heads. One of the Philips also has the remote control unit. These are now taking up valuable space that is needed for another project. I am situated in the lower Midlands (Hereford). If anyone wants to make me an offer for the lot (£75 ?? worth it for heads and power supplies alone) then let me know. If you want further details email me and I'll forward them.

I noticed that many 1970's TV shows were deleted and re-used because of rising costs in videos or they are turfed out because they take up too much space.

In Australia we had a fantastic pop music show called "Countdown" which started in October 1974 and finished around April 1987. But most of the episodes from 1974 to 1978 were deleted and re-used so hardly any episodes from then still exist. However I reckon there are people in Australia that would have either owned a Philips VCR or a VTR and taped Countdown back in the mid 70's when those shows originally aired. Now if there's ANYONE out there in Australia or even overseas who has old Countdown episodes on reel-to-reel or Philips cassette PLEASE email me because I would love to buy or trade for them or copies of them.

Also I bet there are people in UK who taped Top Of The Pops on those Philips VCRs or VTR in the 60's and 70's. If anyone reading this board has Taped early Top Of The Pops episodes on Philips cassette or VTR reel-to-reel please email me. A lot of Top Of The Pops episodes prior to 1977 were deleted. There are ABSOLUTELY NO episodes prior to 1967 however some footage still exists and I have a some of the clips on VHS tape from that "Sounds Of The 60's" program. From 1967 to 1973 not too many episodes exist. From 1974 to 1976 I guess half of them still exist. From 1972 only 2 episodes exist which is a shame. How I know this is I looked through the Popstastica Encyclopedia on the Top Of The Pops website and I looked through each episode guide. The only hope of recovering the missing episodes is on old home video tape whatever format it may be.

Also there was a really sad story with the early Dr Who episodes, a lot of the 60's episodes were burnt to a crisp to make more space in BBC archives. However more and more episodes have been recovered over the years as many copies were made for airplay in various countries around the world. Still I bet there are people out there who have some long lost episodes on reel-to-reel tape. Also although all of the 70's episodes still exist some of them only exist in B&W due to the fact the colour ones were canned. But there's always a chance of recovering the colour ones on early home video.

Anyhow as I mentioned I'm on a big hunt for Pre-1978 Countdown episodes taped when they were originally aired so if anyone has them on home video please email me. Also ABC might like to digitally copy them to Digital Beta and air them in next January's Countdown season on Rage. 1975 was a fantastic year of Countdown because there was a lot of fantastic glam rock such as:SkyhooksSherbetHushAC/DC (They were once a glam metal group)Ray Burgessetc...

And I heard Alice Cooper also performed live on Countdown in March of 1975 however I'm not so sure if that footage was kept. And the fashion was real wild that year. Also the Temptations might have done Countdown around September of 1975 as well.

I've just GOTTA get those early episodes.

Two things:-

1:- I'm looking to get hold of a Tube camera (Trinicon, Saticon, etc, all fine), for the effects. I don't know why, but there's something in me which keeps shouting "these are better quality". I guess it's just my excuse for my love of cameras with lag (if only it's the tiniest bit!)

2:- I'm looking for a service manual for a Trinicon HVC-2000PE. My friend gave me this one, and it's been totally uncalibrated. I've taken off both sides, and got an image (which actually isn't that bad, and is better than I reckon it was originally. I've got it to be low lag and high contrast. Good colour balance too), but I'm not certian it's the best it could be. Only a service manual will help me. Any ideas?

Could you please reply by e-mail?? (I know it's a lot to ask, but this chat page isn't easy to navigate. It should be made into a YahooGroup)

Hello,I am a great Video 2000/Betamax/VCR-normal/LP/SVR fan. Here in Germany, Video 2000er are still very common.Sometimes it is possible to get old spare parts.I have the LOEWE OC 6020, its a great videomachine. One rumor of the demise of the V2000 was, that there were so fewporn movies for this system. But there were very few rental tapes in general. Hi Brian, (Tried Your ntlworld adrress but email returned)     Read your notice and wondered if you would be interested in purchasing my Pye portable.     A bit of history:     Years ago i saw it advertised in Dixons at the (then) bargain price of £299.For some reason I felt compelled to buy it and bizarrely it was only available in a Philips/Pye combination, so the tuner is silver in colour and badged "Philips" and the recording section dark grey/light charcoal badged "Pye". Excellent pictures and sound.     A year later I purchased the top (or near top) of the range Philips VR2840 , a stereo machine with remote control and extended play.I had to place a special order for it and it cost me over £600 !.......My enthusiasm was short lived because the picture quality was disappointing (oddly, extended play was better) and I couldn't return it to the dealer as it was a special order and poor picture quality to someone, may be alright to someone else.     The VR2840 failed last year, I didn't even try and repair it.Put it out for the binmen.     Back to the portable unit, the Philips tuner is under the bed and the Pye section in the lounge so both parts have been stored well. I also check at least twice a year that the main functions are OK--recording,playback,timer etc and that the picture is still very good. External appearance is also good, the Pye being in near mint or you may even class it as being in mint condition !     I would reluctantly sell them, and only together for £110 including postage costs within the UK.     The price may seem steep but i would make sure it was working fine before posting and I have every reason to believe you would be happy with it.     I also have an official Philips V2000 "Cleaning Maintenance Cassette" (for the heads) which I can include in the above price. i didn't use it much as i originally purchased it for the VR2840 and I don't as a rule like to use these cassettes preferring to use a swab and alcohol to clean heads (VHS)..The heads on V2000 are hard to access hence the cleaning cassette.     Sending you this email has bought back some memories to me.In case you want the item numbers, the Pye recording section is 22VR20 and the Philips tuner  VR2120.     Mike.

Hi I found this website on christmas eve and think its great and found the 'out of retirement' very good.In the past I have owned the Grundig 2x4 plus and 2x4 stereo currently I have a Pye portable and aPhillips 2022.All functions appear to work on both but although the sound is fine on both on the Pye I do not get a picture at all and on the Phillips. The picture on some tapes is black and white with lots of interference and sometimes dissapears altogether. Other tapes do not give a picture at all. I would very much like to get a machine working as we have lots of video of the childreen when small which we would like to transfer.I would also be interested if anyone had a working machine for sale. {so that I could prove to my sons what a superior system this is} I have magazines dating from the early eighties with the reviews of various Video 2000 machines which I will list in a future posting in case anyone could use the information. If anyone could help please e mail me or post a message. Many apologies for the slightly not-v2000 related post, but I'm desperately looking for a Dynatron CTV1 / CTV2 or similar colour TV from 1968 / 1969. It's a huge dual-standard monster which works on 405 or 625 lines. See http://www.oldtechnology.net/colour.html for a Pye version of the set. It doesn't look the same, but it does have the same chassis and controls. Top money paid for the right set.

Many thanks.

When looking inside the machine from the tape lid I can see what looks like a piece of silver string off one of the plastic wheels...The VCR is in good cosmetic condition. Or can it be repaired? Can't see what's wrong with it, the fuse blows, even without the rest of the equipment attached to it.

Help is appreciated!

Hi, i'm trying to find somewhere in the UK, (prefferably near Manchester, but location not important) that will transfer Phillips N1700 tape to either VHS, or even better, to a digital format, preferably of Broadcast quality. We need to do this before Friday 26th October 2001 - ie. ASAP!! If anyone knows of anywhere that can do this, you can contact me : david.wiseman@bbc.co.uk or on 0161 244 3248. Any advice would be most appreciated.David Wiseman:

Hi,I have been trying to get my V2000 to work to look at the loads of tapes I have of recordings off television years ago. The V2000 hasn't been on for about 5 years and now that I switch it on, put a tape in and press play it shows me a black screen for about 2 seconds and shuts down. It stopped recording the last time I had it working, but now it really doesn't want any of it!! It's a Philips VR2023. Does any know if and how I can fix it? Or if there is anyone near me that would be able to help?If anyone can help could you please e mail me! I would love to see those vids again. thanks

I have a Sony Betamax recorder SLO-323, and it has a few problem: during play, f-forward, re-wind, or rec., it will work for a few seconds, then shut of, as though you have pressed stop. this is getting better, but still happens. when it does work and it records, the playback has horizontal blue lines accross the screen. any advice?-Jon-

After a lot of years sterling service my Sony C,9 gave up the "Ghost" in a big way. The PSU, including the DC/DC Converter was u/s. "Sony don't make that part any longer ".I was told by my Sony Parts Center. Eventually I gave up looking for that elusive part. "Was I the only Beta user around here?". I thought. It seemed like it The trusty old C.9 was put on the bottom shelf, where it gathered dust, for many a year. That is until recently I ,quite by chance came across the "Beta Palsite" in a magazine Reading through the emails I came across the "Advert " for Lucreziagalaxy With high hopes of seeing my C.9 back in action again I contacted this." Help Line". telling my tale of woe. Having been convinced by a quick reply to my request, that a repair was definitely on the cards, I sent my C.9 away, insured against damage as advised, for a report on its condition. Within a couple of days of its arrival, I received a detailed report of the faults found, the parts required, and the estimate for the lot. It did not appear cheap at first. ,but considering the availability of the parts for a C.9, the equipment and expertise required to fit and test them, it seemed to me pretty reasonable. So I went ahead with the repairs. I was kept informed all the way through the "restoration", until ,the day arrived, when I was informed that after a long Test program my C.9 was ready for home. My first impressions of the restoration? Its works like a dream. The picture on Pause and X 2 are marvelous. Why buy a DVD for picture quality, when with Beta Sony C.9 and a" Diggie". Box you can get a Better deal. It is a machine in its own class, I have insured it separately under my House Contents Insurance, after receiving a report of its market value. Thank you Lucreziagalaxy for a 1st Class Job.& Many Thanks for all Your Help and Sound Advice . The cost was worth every penny. If any one out there has problems with their C.9,do what I d ,consult the" Experts." They are only an email away. John. REMEMBER MY WEBPAGES AT http://members.aol.com/lucreziagalaxy/index.html

For anyone looking for format conversions, Jessops (camera shot) summer catalogue (p.61) refers to film-to-video transfer and includes V2000 on its list - presumably they could also transfer from one tape format to another.... (they do stipulate non-copyright material only).

Hope this is of some use.

Cheers. Neil

HERE IS YET ANOTHER TESTIMONIAL ON MY BEHALF FOR THE QUALITY WORK I DO ON BOTH BETAMAX AND V2000 FORMATS: Hello to all who read this. Yes I had a Sony SLC9 that was not feeling so well. A severe case of DC converter sickness. I took it to numerous so called medics but nobody could make it well and it got put into the attic to ferment. Then one day I was on the net and came across WWW.Betapals and found Lucreciagalaxy and in no time what so ever we were in touch and a cure was on the dispensing table. My unit was parcel posted (well insured as instructed) forthwith and once again I received rapid response. The C9 problems had been diagnosed and surgery to put right had been identified. All I had to do was submit the necessary from my "drink token" account and the C9 went under the knife. The treatment was not cheap but when born neither was the C9. So far the unit (patient) is responding to all commands and if all goes well has undergone a full reincarnation. No I am not in the medical profession, actually I am a mechanical biased person. But to finish I must say well done lucrezia as all the credit goes to her. All the best and keep operating Stan REMEMBER MY PAGES CAN BE FOUND AT http://members.aol.com/lucreziagalaxy/index.html THANK YOU

I've got a Philips V2022 made in Oct 1981. Its got a fault where if you play or record a tape it stops after a couple of minutes or even a few seconds. I've watched the video head when this happens and it seems to vary its speed just before shutting down with the resultant loss of picture. I've gon through the machine and re-soldered all the connections but no success. I've seen info regarding this fault as the Piezo electirc driving unit..But I'm not sure what modue this resides on...

The tapes (see 27th August post) went within a couple of days to a delighted V2000 fan. So I will try to shift the V2000 machines and see if I can get in the good books of the other half - for once !

1 x Philips VC2020 working, 1 x VC2022 intermittent shutdown fault - PSU ?, 1 x Grundig 2x4 Plus - cover not closing the actuator switch, 2 x Grundig 2x4 Super's - one working the other has a grainy picture which is definately a PSU fault (swapped between units to prove). User manuals for the VC2022 and Grundig 2x4 Super's.

Anyone up for donating £100 for the lot ? - must be worth well more than this even if broken up for spares.

Buyer to collect or I could possibly meet half way etc. depending on distance.

Ok, so I've finally got round to sorting a few things out in the spare room. I now have a 'few' used Video 2000 tapes to dispose of - 87 x VCC480 (2 x 4hr), 24 x VCC360 (2 x 3 hr)and 11 x VCC 240 (2 x 2Hr). Any offer of £100 the lot, plus carrige, wins otherwise I will put them on one of the auction sites.

All I need to do now is to sort out the 5 Video 2000 machines !!

I have heard stories of an annual V2000 rally being held. Anyone now where and when ??

Any queries please email.
