I am in Montreal.
I am not eager to rent out my equipment but perhaps we could arrange something if you wish to transfer some tapes.
hi to all I live in Staffordshire England and was wundering if any one out there knows of any ne who sells working Betamax machines as i have had onf forvc a few yeas now annd it has finaly given up
uppsssss
gee...this page is Hang
I cant refresh it...........
Try system refresh.
hmm...... to have a 1000amie in my living room would be really nice, LOL. I could invite people over and impress them :) awwww! it hiding in my cabinet with smoked plastic doors! I think if I had all those reelamies I'd be broke, cuz I'd always be buying tape for them.
I'd settle for just having my Pioneer RT-707 running at the right speed(s). It's a bee-atch not having a factory tape to set speed and align heads, all I have are tapes that I bought from someone, and there's no way of knowing if THEIR machine was in proper alignment! Anyone have a commercial open reel (pre-recorded) tape I can buy?
Believe it or not Brenda I've got boatloads of those! Good thing I'm a lazay little $#!^ and it took me this long to get your package together... I'll toss in one I don't like for free since you had to wait so damn long.
Can I get a choice of two or three different ones? That way at least I can know the program material. :)
Sure... I'll look when I can.
It's tough to impress friends with a 1000. Most of them say the HF2000 looks more sexy. In fact, most of them hardly manifest any interest for Beta.
My Digital AV receiver wont detect Video signal nor audio, it has AD-DA block . (I'd tested with NTSC and PAL signals/every front lamp works normally/voltages 'N regulators are OK) Any advise would be a great help.__________________________________________________________________________________________
What make/model is your receiver ??
Assuming that, like most AV receivers, it simply redirects the selected video input to the output, there must be something wrong with the "selector" section of the preamp...
Betagoods, wondercardman, a1quality-goods and now nintendo-collectors and dljavier
and eBay does NOTHING ???

I once owned a complete Sony home entertainment system, bought in 1987 (my SL-HF1000 is all I have left of it). It featured some really cool square speakers that stood up on tall stands. I had all the units for it that connected together so they worked off one remote, cassette, CD player, linear tracking turntable, 20" FSS Trinitron monitor, and the 1000. The heart of the system was a receiver that had not only AM/FM/FM Stereo, but also a 125 channel cable ready MTS TV tuner. You plugged the monitor into the back of the receiver, and there you were! It was set up for simulcast receive as well, you could watch a program on the monitor, and listen to something else (or the simulcast radio program) on the FM.
If anyone can find me the model number of that amp (55 watts per channel front, 5 watts per channel rear), I would be very grateful... I could then go about finding another one like it...
I wrote to Sony customer service, and gave them as many details as I could. At first they wrote me back and told me they only handled products for the US market. When I informed them that this was purchased in the US, they wrote me back and said they needed the model number (my original query was asking THEM for the model number!)
Looking through some old Rolling Stones articles, I found something called the 'Access 301' System. It shows a Sony home theater system with these flat square speakers and what looks like an SL-HF 600 VCR. Article only gives the model numbers of the TV sets (301 for the 27" 101 for the 20" one) used.
I am still having problems with my vcr.. i have it right apart, but no go yet. It takes the tape, but then ejects it back out. I have cleaned and checked the connections even changed power supplies, no go. Its not the loading mechanism, as I replaced it with a " known " working one. It loads and unloads the tape properly. It just refuses to finish the " wrap the tape around the drum " cycle, and simply ejects the tape
Yes you're right, and I'm affraid it's the swithcer but where the exact part would be the malfunctions.
If it's the 'Master controller chipset' wouldn't it be so wise to put in a bin.
Kris
You got problem with the microswitch or Hall Effect sensors, your tape seems to stick to drum too tight up to depressed the Rotary.
(check if the switch conduct 'zero Ohm')
Thank you for the response.
I am not an electrician, just got some basic tools and the williness to learn.I know about the Hall Effect sensors havent replaced this part yet, but what swith should i check for " zero ohm " please advise
Franny,
Thanks for the info. I sent that along to Sony Customer Servless. That should give them enough to go on to find my receiver model. :)
I doubt there is a hall effect or a problem of tape sticking to the drum in Kris' vcr, since the tape doesn't even reach the drum. A bad microswitch could be in cause though. Did you check the one by the end of the threading ring ?? Also, have you tried threading the tape by hand to see if it works ??
Tahnks for the feedback. I did try doing it up by, but as soon as the vcr does its test cycle it unwinds the tape, and ejects it right away...:(
any idea guys/
Does anyone have any experience with the SL-HF2000? I'm thinking of getting one for a backup.
~Scott
SL-HF-2000 is an OK machine... nothing special. Keep in mind it's vulnerable to macrovision moreso than most betas, and it's been said that its of rather shoddy construction, although that is all hearsay and conjecture. But they usually sell for much more than they are worth. If you want a NIB beta, wait for a good one. They turn up all the time.
The problem is, the one I want is the 2100. There is one on ebay now, and the only way I can get one is to trade my 9500 or sell it and hope to get enough on ebay to buy a 2100 when it comes up.
~Scott
Yeah.... silly question. why would you trade away a (Hypothetically) perfectly good EDV-9500, perhaps one of the most desireable Betas EVER (Tied with the SL-HF-1000) for another unit? The SL-HF-2100 is kinda gimmicky, actually. The remote is an ilbegotten piece of technology that chews threw batteries at a disturbing pace, and it can't touch any of your old ED-beta material... The SL-HF-1000 is strictly superior to the 2100 as far as I can tell... the 2100 is just more visually appealing... I'd offer to trade my turbo 900 but I can't offer a second deck that meats your criteria.
I have the 1000 and an SLO-323.. *ggg*
Feature-wise, the HF2000 is your standard modern VHS deck but with beta capability. It's got onscreen programming, auto-tracking, fairly minimal controls on the deck, all via the remote.
In terms of performance it's VERY ordinary, with no special effects as it has only two heads. Strangely, there are more SFX buttons on its remote than most other betas ! The heads are also known to wear fast. I don't have much data about it but I know I had to change mine already.
Overall, the HF2000 is an ordinary machine with average performance. There are a bunch of more desirable models. Besides, even though its a more recent model, replacement parts are hardly more available than any other beta.
To Kris.
If you have Analog Multitester try stuck the - and + Probe together then the needle indicator should point to O (zero). It means good conductor.
Hall effect sensors does not detect your Tape presence or Bad conductions of 'Tape presence' microswitch///check all microswitch Does PLAY button works?(Hall effect sensor hard to break up)
Or maybe the the Rotary head Eyes crushed/Does the Steper Motor works well.
Last phenomenon are very rare, dont change anything till you're sure what's the broken part.
These all logical functions are related to each other/// one function fail, other reject their job.
Hall Effect Sensors cannot be tested by ordinary tester.
Just try the microswitches first, with the Multitester.
The switch Homer said before could be the problem.
(Do not insert jammed Video tape)
Thanks for all the info guys! Will give it a go!!!
Hoepfully I can put the vcr back together
I think the hall effect sensors are used as tape end sensors and do not actually detect tape presence. And since the tape ejects before it starts threading, the problem can't come from these.
If the "steper" motor Bobby talks about is the loading motor, it cannot be related either since it runs for the loading portion.
I still firmly believe in a microswitch problem. Or a bad syscon.
I have been offered a very nice SL-HF750 for a reasonable price... the owner says it plays back perfectly (sound & video), but any new recordings turn out with a hazy picture and perfect sound.
Is this the heads? If so, is it reasonable to get fixed? I had an SL-HF900 with fried heads and it was in excess of $500 to repair (with new Sony heads).
Thanks!
Sean,
The only reason I would trade my 9500 for a 2100 is because I never use the ED function of the deck. I only have about 5 metal tapes, so usually it just does Super Beta all the time. My 1000 is my main deck right now, with the 9500 secondary and my 550 in the other room. I wish I could find somebody willing to trade a 2100 for my 9500, and perhaps I could sweeten the deal with a 5800 and clone Zenith Beta (need new belts) and maybe even my 550 which is a great little deck. Somebody please answer my call!
~Scott
Yes a bad SYSCON is the second hint. After that check the Loading motor IC (Is the clock ticking/What is the speed of the 'Heartbeat'?)
I wish this is your VTR Kris.............

The EDV-9500 resembles much the one from your pix, Bobby.
you see the http://ww1.tiki.ne.jp/~bxm05645/images/repair/edv920.jpg extra plastique covering? Is that standard on the deck or did he add it? I think its a good idea from keeping the display from being scratched.
It's standard
Franny:
Thank you thank you thank you. :) That info was just what I needed. I got an e-mail back from Sony Customer Service this morning, with the model number of the receiver, which is AVU-270. Please folks keep your eyes out for one of these, as I really really want to find one. I've already added it to my favorite searches on fleabay.
eeeee Brenda that sound like a nice Sony reciever. Had some trouble with a meanie old bat cashier @ Illwill who wanted to charge me $4,99 for a stupid hard disk. It was a 1990 vintage Western Digital and I wanted to buy it because it was so old. Would make a nice drive to store a couple of Photoshop documents on, LOL! Or a few betamie pix. Hmmm... I think it'd be funny to open Norton Disk doctor and have it complete a surface scan in like a minute, lOL, or to open Speed Disk and have it displaying these huge blocks with "1 box = ,01 clusters". I wanted to bring home a Spamyo hifi deck that looked like it had been puked in but thought it was a bad idea because its P/S was leaking some kind of oil. Someone must have spilt something on it.
I'll have to look, but I think I have a couple antique HDD's here, I know I have a (LOL) 500MB laptop drive..
Just did a quick check.. how does a Seagate ST-3120 sound to you? It's a humongous 120 MB IDE drive (I think it's IDE, it has a 40 pin IDE connector, but I suppose it could be RLL or MFM). I'll drop it in the mail to you sometime. Still want a WOAI sticker if you can get me one. :)
YIKES!!! Take a look at THIS!!!
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/netcomdirect/seagst3120al.html
I've got some old disks around here but the one that tops them all is actually sitting in my machine spinning right now! The D drive is a DEC RZ23L with a whopping 115MB space... 114 after the FAT is on it. Believe it or not it works like a champ. I stuck it in to test the SCSI board you send me, Brenda, and I never took it out because it works fine and I never really saw any need to, nobody else would want it (It's an SCSI drive).
BWAH! that link is a laugh, Brenda... I've been pulling larger disks out of junk machines for free for a year now! I gave up on anything smaller than half a gig if it's any work to take (Some hard drive mounting frames are a royal Pain in the @$$ to undo)...
yes I agree, esp at Illwill where evil ladies charge you an arm and a leg for them. That page IS funny, LOL!

_@_v - eeee! i think i have some ancient 'conner' 40 mb hd's floating around....
I have MFM/RLL hardrive.OLD drive but still spinning 'N sized about Betacam Casette.Maybe 20MEG more or less capacity.
Yours free ........but must pay for shipment.
Here's a drive sized about many betacam cassettes !
http://www.fourmilab.ch/documents/univac/fastrand.html
It's totally amazing that in this one small mid-tower case I have the equivalent of 600,000 times more storage capacity... (@)@)
Oops.. my bad.. misplaced a couple decimal points.. but still, 6000 times more than something the size of one of my bedrooms...
That is one bigass mofo of a hard drive. Sorta like what you'd get if the East Germans had put out a portable mp3 player...
I have a Sony C30 for sale. Everything appears to work but there's no head rotation. Offers please.
More toys. Some ßeta, some not. There's now a list of my pre-recorded (factory) tapes available... (well, most of them, I found more today that I need to add.) http://fullspectrumradio.jadephoenix.org/forsale.htm
Anything I get no takers on will have to go (sic) to fleabay.
Jesse, somewhere around here is an old 1980 Seagate ST-506 hard drive. 6 megs (5 megs formatted) and filled up two CD-Rom drive bays. It introduced the command structure that all MFM and IDE drives follow today. Originally it sold for $2000. I really enjoyed breaking the warranty seal on that one...
Hallo, I Would Like to sell a VCR Betamax, model SL-C9ES with all faults...
Hi, I am new to this list; I have a Sony SL-F1UB (and an N1700 which has a problem too). Electronically the F1UB (Betamax portable) is doing fine - mechanically it's still very active in fact I'd describe it as "enthusiastic"! (It's very fast rewinding and forward winding!). But the tuner for it hasn't fared so well and it seems to have broken down - it works but it's permanently stuck on Channel (button no.) 5 (!).
Also I have at least one betamax tape which I believe blocks the heads very, very quickly - it's pretty much unplayable....anyone know how I can replay this tape in full at least once to recover what's on it? ( I think there might be a late 70s "World in action" programme on it, but I can't really date it properly).
Thank you.
Slothpuck:
As far as your tuner problem, I would wager that what has happened is that the touch switch for channel 5 has broken down, and keeps contact at all times. These tiny switches are made from a pair of contact points and a small metal disk that is pushed to make those contacts. It's a fairly easy job to remove the front cover of the tuner, and then the board holding the switches. From there you desolder the defective switch, and locate a replacement. While this switch is removed, you can also check to verify that this is indeed the problem by partially reassembling the tuner, and pushing one of the other buttons. If you get a different channel, then you've found your problem. Replacement switches of this type are cheap and plentiful.
For slothpuck,

wait but Brenda how do you calculate the number of times your hard disk is bigger than the u-mie one? Mines a 69gB drive and I couldn't figure out how to do it :( Makes me feel dumb lol!
69 GB equals grossly 69,000 megs, divided by the 90 megs of the FASTRAND drive gives you a ratio of about 766:1
I thought that's how you did it, LOL, but Brenda says 6000 times, and I only got 600 so I figured I was wrong. Do you have a server or something Brenda?
Jesse,
It's not exactly a server, we just like BIG HDD's. This particular machine has 600GB of drives, plus I have an external USB2 case that I hook up to it occasionally that has another 120GB drive in it. Among three computers we run regularly (mine, Pat's and our LAN file server) we have well over 2 TB of disk space.
BTW, the multiplication factor is 1024, i.e. 1GB is 1024MB, 1TB is 1024GB...etc.
TB=Terabyte

Yes, our mailman has that same exact problem. I have left messages on the door, esp when I think a package is coming, for him to leave the package hiding under the recycle bin. Idiot just leaves a stupid slip and I have to arrange a ride to go pick it up.
LOOKING FOR A SONY BMC-1000K IN GOOD CONDITION.
Idiot has to follow the rules you know !
Alas, most mail carriers do not even bring packages along on their routes.. :( And nothing over a couple pounds when they do.
Wow! Brenda, I guess I'm lucky... our mailman brings all sorts of packages! He brought me an 80 pound VO-2600 on the same day as an RCA-CC010 camera! at the same time!
Our carrier in Portland never brought any package larger than one of those 2 lb. Priority Mail boxes.. :( Course, our post office was only about 15 blocks away, no big deal..
awww poor baby VO-2600! LOL, I love those big ol' Buick u-matics! Haha.. I wonder if I could sign some sort of waiver at the post office that allows the carrier to leave the package there if I'm not. If its something big like a u-mie the mailman will bring it after he's finished delivering our mail; when I got my 110amie with its case he brought it; he's usually finished around 5. He'll tell me if I have a package though, so I don't leave or anything.
Hehe, thanks to everyone for their help here ..... now all I have to do is to get together the bravery to actually open up my tuner without killing it completely......(!)

I just found a sweet site http://mailboxvideo.net for video movies in the Beta format for only $2.99. I bought several (25) and they all were in great shape. I just thought you would like to know.John
To the person with the clogging tape. You could try baking it the way open reel audio tape people have been doing for years. Ask around, or buy a fruit dehydrator at Walmart for 40 bucks, bake at 121 degrees for 6 hours. That's it!
Ah but after that you have to copy it once and then never use it again because that is only a temporary solution.
Yes, just as I was teling Franny, what if there was a nixie that displayed BI BII BIII or BIs on our beta decks! awww lol! or the other symbols such as << >> > [] O, etc
what does baking the tape do? Make the oxide stick to the binder?
flegh! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2931048507&category=4791 Vidimagix with "white screen". and cool looking NECamie vidi switcher http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3026794565&category=32862 There seems to be a lot of goodies on ebay now that i have a bit of money, LOL!
It drives the moisture out of the binder, which has become hydrolyzed. They call it "sticky shed syndrome" in the audio field. Baked tapes are good for 30 days; they can be baked again.
well I have my eyestalk watching out for this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3026215488&category=21168 vidicorder.... now if I could just find some tape!
Here's a nixie clock on eBay that uses those giant alpha tube. Works as a clock and "displays thousands of 4-letter words." Thinngs that make you go, "hmmmm!" ;)
