And could you go around the country pouring the stuff on the ground growing penises out of the ground like a modern day Johnny Penis-seed?

sean I'm quite fuzzy as to what the quadruplex looks like, do you have a picture of one? or is there a page where I can read about it? For some reason today I feel like some "heavy" reading, LOL. Eeeee!!! I'm also unsure: does an EMP destroy magnetic media such as tapes, disks, etc or does it just destroy circuits? Will tube equipment fry too, even though it doesn't have microchips?

Homer
Thursday 19th June 2003
10:46 pm U.K.

[email protected]

I'd say ESD only destroy ICs as the junctions are so small the current generated by an ESD spike becomes significant. I guess it would take quite a bolt to destroy a vacuum tube.

I can't see what it would do to a magnetic tape as the current has to discharge through a conductive body. A tape could carry a charge though.

Sean Meskill
Friday 20th June 2003

EMP will first empty out electronic memory before it kills circuits outright, then it will kill ICs, solid state tech, and if there's enough of a blast to kill a tube, you're dead too. If you want to look at 2" quadruplex, Quaudruplex park has a vast inventory of these machines. http://www.lionlmb.org/quadpark.html

Vaccuum-assisted transport! Reduces tape wear & stretch, increases precision, etc. Old computer tape drives used it too, that's why they used to "Burp & fart". All REALLY good videotape machines used it, like the IVC-9000, etc, but Quadruplex needed it to bend the tape around the curved path, if you follow me.

Funny, I still got this RatShack Realistic 8-track deck w/ Dolby. Finally secured some NOS blanks for it and recorded a couple of CDs. OK, but the sound limitations really stand out on my Sony ES/Polk system. To the aspiring African film-maker. Realistically unless you have a source for tapes and batteries and can inspect prospective equipment directly you're probably better off getting a cheap Hi-8mm camcorder rather than anything Beta. I've seen Hi-8 cameras at Walmart (they're everywhere!) listed brand-new for a couple hundred Euros.

Of course Digital fairly cheap. Get a DV cam with Firewire and an iBook with Final Cut Pro and you're practically the next Stephen Spielberg...

Grant, what kind of environment are they being kept in? I had a u-matic tape with this kind of mould; I just ran it through a dead unit (worn, worn heads) back and forth and it was fine; no more mould. I suppose here in Texas where it's almost always dry we don't have to worry about mould. That u-matic tape was from New England area, so I suppose it was mouldy because of humidity. I don't know if the mould will return though after the windinng. Does the mold affect playback quality? I didn't notice anything.

Do you walk to work or carry your lunch? The guy was simply putting his foot in his mouth. He didn't know, most likely, that the two technologies were seperated by nearly two decades, and, while both are now old, at their peak, 8-tracks were not the height of technology but simply a way to get a job done, whereas Betamax was generally the height of consumer videotape machines when it comes to picture & sound quality and also features.

Have you heard about this example of computer logic? A man wanted to buy a watch and was looking at two,one was broken and could not be fixed, the other would be accurate to one second per year.Which one should he buy?The computer told him to buy the broken watch, because it would give him the correct time twice a day.

Anyone out there have any of the following I want to purchase: (Unit must be working but exterior condition and remote control irrelevant) :

Ideally one of : Sony Betamax SL-C30, Sony SL-C9 ,SL-C40, SLF -30, SLF-60.

Second Choice:

If not one of the above then any later front loading machine that still gives good picture quality and has its video and audio outputs working. Auto tracking would also be preferred if possible.

Well I do not believe any Beta had auto tracking... the only one I know about was the NTSC model SL-HF-2100, a rather over-rated (But still excellent) SuperBeta HiFi deck. Franny would know for sure if there was ever a PAL beta with auto tracking, but don't count on it. I've found, however, that betas seem to almost "Auto-track" on there own, even if they don't have auto tracking or anything like that, they jus are very good at cleaning up errors.

Off the topic;

Garbage In -> Garbage Out or GIGOterm is usually associated with CMOS techno or commonly in flowcharting basics. Some of them designed in Logic circuitry from very simple up to Array of dimension in similarity.

For Ortodox sample is just Yes or No / 1 or 0 as result.

That's from me.........

Well a while back the folk at the nearby GE research lab were demonstating the latest Artificial Intellegence/Voice Recognition project to the local media. The proud scientists bade the reporters to come up with any sort of question and their supercomputer would have the answer.

Well the reporters did their best to come up with challenging questions but the computer said nothing - not even to indicate it got the question. The tech guy got worried and started pulling boards to see if they could sort out the problem. As it turned out some chip got installed the wrong way making it the stupidest computer on the face of the earth.

The media people all started packing to leave grumbling on how the scientist had gone and wasted their time. "Hey stuporcomputer! Thanks for wasting our day! We're outta here!", yelled one of the camera guys...

Suddenly the computer lit up and yelled back, "Y'all come back now y'hear!"

I want the handle for my 2000amie, lol... :( Can someone replace the cammy fuze and the batty leads on mine because they don't work now; the batty leads have to be pressed really hard against the connection so it will work. Plus I need new screws for the case. :( Poor frankenmie...

Speaking of fuse I found a Transistor shape kinda terminator. Really good safety device wich can be found in many Beta.

I just replace it and everything works out.One brilliant idea of many splendid Inventions.
