Still refering to the SL-2710 design, the small jack (smaller than a minijack) at the rear, right to the PCM switch is a camera pause switch. On the front you get a headphone jack (below the power button) and you also have a microphone jack on the flip-down panel for audio dubbing purposes.

The MPX switch on the 2710 is a 3 position switch (Beta Hi-Fi ON / BHiFi ON + MPX filter OFF / OFF).

Damn, I taped "Catch 22" of TV last night on a new tape and got a very dark picture compared with the original broadcast. Absolutely perfect, but very dark. Damn beta, looks like my spare machine I was hoping to sell will now become a doner. I might replace the leads as Jesse mentioned, just to be sure. At least I know its not the heads, thanks Franny.

Hi Folks- I'm not a Betamax enthusiast, but stumbled across your neat web pages.I have a SONY C7 machine PAL. Complete with the autostacking changer, Remote control and Manual. Last time I used it...over ten years ago..it worked fine. Is there any interest in this old machine now? I spoke to an old Sony dealer, who used to run a Sony dealership...He said that in all the years they sold these old machines, he never sold a single autochanger stacking device! Are these particularly common items?

Changers aren't common items. They're not Holy Grails either, but they're very interesting curiosities. The C7, if I remember, is a top loader. The front loaders like the C9 even had autochangers but they too didn't sell well. Over in the US we have also three recording speeds so people usually used the slower ones instead of opting to change tapes.

I dont know anything about these machines to be truthful but it looks about as new as I've seen ( newer than my DVD player looks ) She took really good care of it. It is a Sanyo Model no. Vcr4400. The date on it is June 8, 1984. She is the orginal owner. I do not have any beta tapes although I'm trying to find some to try this thing out but she swears it played good. _@_v - before i moved up to hifi i had a pretty good vcr-4400. they're pretty good vcrs - easy to work on and tinker with. found a cable tuner board from a dead vcr-7200 and made mine a cable ready unit. check the rubber parts. they usually go bad on these. parts are still available and radio shack may still stock beta tapes

_@_v - normally i'd say these were a $50 unit but a lot of surpirsing lo-level betas are going for over $100 bux..

Hi,

I have a Sony SLHF-750(the 1 with the sliding drawer). I can play and record in the fastest speed fine but not in II or III, I get a really snowy picture and garbled audio. I've tried cleaning the heads but that did nothing.Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Heads? Also what is the value of this machine should I manage to get all speeds working again?

I picked up a Sanyo VCR-6800 from Value Village today, for $9.99. Much to my surprise, it works flawlessly. It is my first functioning Beta VCR. I was able to play back some amusing footage recorded off-air in 1980, including a commercial for Wang computers.

I now know why Sanyos are so cheap on ebay. I knew they had poor picture quality, but it is still impressive to see it firsthand. Still, the 1980 BIII tapes had good video and audio, and beat out any VHS recording I've seen from that era.

What type of tapes does the Sony BMC-100P Camcorder use? Betamax or Betacam? I'm a bit new to all this Beta lark so be nice to me.

it can use either, as long as the Betacam tapes don't say Betacam SP or Betacam SX. Just make sure it says "betacam" by itself. Betacam tapes are really better for betamie because they're a super high grade tape; that's really the best sorta tape to use!

Jesse, the ED-cam probably doens't have the same power plug as the Betamovie (unless of course you've got it there and you're looking at it and then I'm wrong), but if it does, I don't suppose you could hurt it, underpowering doens't generally, but I'm not sure if you'd hurt the power supply. I also think the ED-cam needs 12V like an SL-2000... it might even take NP-1s...

Regarding the Superwoman film there was a porn film called Superwoman that came out in the late 1970's. DC comics who own Superman, sued to block the filsm release and kind of won. It got released with a new title called Miss Magnificent and the S emblem on her chest was scrathed out of the film print (albeit she often was not in costume) all the dialog referring to Superwoman was alos dubbed over with the new name.

Who helps me. I have a Sony HF 100 Hifi machine which has a slight problem. When I play a recorded tape the pictures vanishes after a few seconds.Before it disappears there are white snowy lines on the screen and the the picture diappears. Also the sound is gone!I cleaned the video head and everything aroud it, but without result.The strange thing is that on prerecorded tapes, like the hifi tape that was with the recorder when I bought it, it play perfectly! I can see the plug.. it's got a diagram and it is a standard style... not screwing around with 4-pin DINs or 4-pin XLRs, fortunately for you. It is 12V however, which is a good thing, because it can get power form loads and loads of sources like, say, your car! get a suitable adapter at radio shack... if a wall-wart won't cut it, you may have to use a laptop computer supply which could be very expensive (no more so than the actual ED-cam cost you, however), but I can't rightly say... Either way, good luck!

Of course, you can save yourself a lot of worry and just donate it to the Olive E Thomas Memorial Home for Wayward Betamaxes...

Propper voltage is essential... deviate by no more than about .5volts! You can cheat a little more on the MAH but not much. How much does it draw? it probably says somewhere...
