Hi,

I have some NTSC Tapes and Parts for trade, if anyone is interested.

First the parts: A sony SL-HF300 which has been partially cannibalized.and a Sanyo HIFI deck... not sure of the model #, but I could check.Because the heads are worn, I am using this deck as a rewinder so I will let any parts go which are unrelated to this function inc. the remote. (I would let the whole deck go if someone would trade a rewinder anda few movies.)

Let me know what parts you need and I will tell you if I can help you out.

Now the movies:

2 MTV tapes from 1985. I think they were done in BIII.They aren't uninterupted broadcast recordings, instead they area selection of music videos that the previous owner enjoyed.

I also have a concert tape. with the Allman Bros., Crosby Stills and Nash, Wings, and The Charlie Daniels Band.

1 tape full of a children's show called Sillyville, I believe.

Original release tapes:Purple RainSwept AwaySomething Wild

and a few more

I collect silent, classic and foreign films and some horror (particularly Larry Cohen), 8-track tapesreel-reels and vinyl

let me know if any of this interests you

The 39 steps was a very good film, but I don't think that there is a website for it. I don't recall there being many dance routines in it either (ha ha). Anyway, If you ask ask stupid questions on irrelevant websites I guess you get stupid answers.

Oh by the way, does anyone know how many maltesers there are in a standard bag? I would think that betaphiles would know the answer...

I hate the way people are often putting down non sony beta products. I own 10 working betas: 4 sony, 4 sanyo and 2 toshiba's and while I am willing to admit that the sonys provide better results when operating properly, they do seem to be far less reliable(with the exception of 950 ) than my sanyo's which are practically bullet proof.

To Anjelika,

Most people with experience will tell you not to use one of those cassette-type head cleaners on a VCR, Beta or VHS. They're abrasive and hard on delicate heads. Radio Shack, and a lot of electronics parts stores, sell kits that contain chamois swabs and head cleaning fluid so you can do it yourself. First, you take the cover off the deck, then hold the dampened swab gently against the head drum, and finally, rotate the head by hand. It'll do a much better job than the cassette.

For Sony Betamovie batteries, try the Battery Bank at http://www.batterybank.com. They sell aftermarket replacement batteries for the Sony's. Their model EPP-119 lists for about $78 each.

Also, from the Beta Informer:DON WALTERMANThere have been a number of notes lately about how difficult it is to get new batteries for the old Betamax Camcorders. I've been rebuilding my batteries. The Ni-Cad batteries inside the Sony NP-11 battery pack are standard sub-C size Ni-Cads. I buy them from EH Yost & Co. Their email is [email protected] and their website is http://www.mrnicd-ehyostco.com Their phone number is 608-831-3443. In January, I paid $3.95 each for 8 batteries. Thats $31.60 plus an hour of labor to take the pack apart and solder in the new batteries. Make sure to order solder tab battereies to make life easier. The part number I orderedwas N1250SCRST. That means Sanyo 1.2V 1250mAHr NiCad. You must be extremelycareful re-assembling the pack so that it will fit properly inside the camcorder.Taking the battery pack apart is also a challenge. If anyone doesn't want their dead NP-11 battery packs, I'd be happy to pay the shipping for them. Regards,[email protected]

Can I repeat my plea for any help in getting separate Y C output from an SLHF950.

Also, and purely out of interest, does anyone know how the SLHF100 retains its tuner channel information? I have one which retained it without any degradation despite at least 6 years of disconnection due to a defunct power supply. I would have thought that 1985 non-volatile memory technology might be quite primitive, but perhaps not. That lapse of time would seem to rule out any capacitor-powered method of storage.

I have owned FM tuners which wouldn't retain settings for three weeks!

I, too, have heard that Sony still sells a couple of Betamaxes in Japan. I'd love to purchase a brand new machine from there (I gave up trying to find any dealer that mighta had any SL-HF2000's left!). Heck, I bought a minidisk machine from there that wasn't available in the USA But if I could get a Betamax, I'd be in heaven! I'd love a late-model that has many of features found on newer VHS machines. And hey, I could plug it into the same 110-100V converter I use for the minidisk deck!

I have a Sony HFR60 (American) which is "Hi-Fi Ready". I would like to upgrade it to Hi-Fi sound, but I am not sure how to go about it.

I have a sony HF300 parts machine which is HI-fi. Most of the partsseem to be compatible with the HFR60. Can I take the Hi-Fi componentsfrom the parts machine and move them into the keeper?

If so what parts are they? Does this include the audio heads? or just the processing circuits?

If not, can anyone help me to find a modification kit for the HFR60?

I also have a remoteless HF-750. The remote for it is: RMT-143 (Sony Part# A6767085A). I haven't yet tried ordering 1 from them, but I imagine it'll cost a fortune (if they even still sell it!).

I would even assume that RMT-223, which is for the HF-950 (PAL version) would work also. Take a look at the remotes listing on this site: http://www.palsite.info/pref_remotes.html

The SONY SL HFR series of VCRS did not have a kit to install to make them HiFi. They had an external adaptor there were two differnt ones available. They were the same depth and width as the VCRs but only about an inch and a half tall. These unts contained electronics tpo process the HiFi signal. The idea was that since HiFi decks cost a couple of hundred dollars more than a non HiFi VCr that people could buy an HFR VCR for about $20 more and then buy the adaptor later, or use the unit w/o as a non HiFi VCR. The two model adaptors wree the 100 and 200 the sole differencebetween them was that the 200 had an MTS tuner decoder in it so that programmes one recorded in HiFi would be in stereo.

FOR SALE - I have a non working sony SL-C6 in mint cosmetic condition(looks like it has never been used) for $10. Also a black sony SL-C5 for $10. I bought the C6 about a year ago and it worked fine for a few weeks but developed a problem whereby when the tape is inserted it will eject it a few seconds later( I have no idea what could cause such a problem). As for the C5, it works - just. I believe it needs new belts or someting as eject, rewind etc are sluggish and sometimes play will not immediately work. Additionally I have for sale approximately 30 still sealed L500 beta tapes for $20 for the lot. I am selling the tapes so cheap as I make no guarantees about their quality. Although they have never been used I think the tape in them has deteriorated over time. They would be good for splicing new tape onto etc.

Hello. I got a free SL-5000 today that someone left out in the rain. There isn't any damage from the water, but it does have some problems. It doesn't want to thread a tape. I have to help it along a little. It also has speed problems. It plays at the beginning of the tape, but the speed is off. It won't even play at the end of the tape, nor will it fast foward. Does anybody have any idea what could cause this? If so, please e-mail me. Thanks.

I just bought a Zenith KR-9000W beta machine and I am trying to determine the date of manufacture and the original cost. Anybody have any idea? I think it is around 1982 or so; it weighs 38 pounds. Also, the heads may be dirty as the recording playbacks are all very snowy and streaked. Anybody have any idea on how to solve this problem?

Thanks,

I have just adopted an SL-HF500 SONY Betamax... I need help fixing it! The power supply works, and the Self Test passes, but the loading (tape and cassette) motor, reel table motors, capstan motor and head motors are dead--I am guessing the loading motor has an IC Chip that, when the motor completes its job, it sends a signal to load the tape and turn the reels when PLAY is pressed...Am I correct that this motor is dead and the IC Chip can't send the signal until the motor turns??? Any help would be appreciated! Thanx

P.S. I have a replacement motor...

Nick...

Practically every one of all betas I saw with the "partial death" problem had a defective STK chip in their power supply. Try powering the loading motor with another source so you will be sure it's not dead.

Hello. I am now the proud owner of a silver-cased SL-HF400! I have a couple of questions: First, it's missing the little flip down door on the front, does anybody have one they could sell me, and Second, when you press rewind, it kicks into fast forward, but when you press it again it kicks into rewind. Is this a common problem with this machine? Anybody who has a flip down door or knows why the rewind button does this, please e-mail me. Thanks in advance!

I just discovered this website, as my interest in Betamax has recently been revived. I reinstalled my old Sony Betamax SL-T50ME, which I bought in Saudi Arabia in '84. I have a collection of Beta tapes I recorded off Saudi/other Gulf States TV, which I've been enjoying (enthusiastically) looking at recently. Before my only Betamax VCR falls apart, I wish to find a replacement one, that has more advanced features such as hi fi/stereo sound, rather than just mono, and, of course handles PAL, SECAM, as well as American NTSC. I'm hoping that joining this website (I just signed the Guest Book), I'll find out where to find one, plus, lots of other interested Beta-related info.

This is for anyone who could help me out. I have some really treasured videotapes on beta unfortunately (about 35) and I need to know if anyone has a beta VCR that they have for sale, or at least refer me to someone who does. I'm not sure, but I think I heard that you could buy VHS tapes that hold beta tapes inside, to be played in a VHS VCR. Is that true? Anyway, anything will help...thanx

homer, I can back you up there. But listen, it will also play standard audio cassettes, 5" reel to reel tapes, minidiscs and micro cassettes - now that is one piece of kit!

The fact that VHS videos are designed and built for a totally different format - not just physical construction - does not seem to matter ( to some).

One thing puzzles me. Why do we have all these different machines if one adapter will play everything in a VHS video? Answers by morse code please (my computer will accept it - I have an adapter).

I have an SKC STANDARD GRADE VIDEO CASSETTE (VHS T-120). The problem is that I some how broke the tape. So I opened it up to tape it back togather. Now I can not put it back togather prperly. You see I have 5 pieces that I don't know where or how they go togather in the video cassette. I want to keep the recording I have on the tape. Here are the parts I need help with. 1) small spring 2) a little larger spring 3)White plastic tube. 4) Black moveable plastic switch 5) Other side or half of black moveable plastic switch. A number also stamped on the video cassette reads D368D. Now I have been looking for the SKC (Product Home Page) but couldn't find it. However I do have the address as follows: SKC 201 Route 17 North Rutherford, NJ 07070 It also says Made in Korea on it. What is my next step in resolving this problem? Thank you.
