Whoops I missread that, did you mean "SL-S2000"? I've never heard of that model... it probably needs code 1, then...
Well what you want to do is scan this page for the links to the manuals (unless you already have the manual for the SL-HF-2000), find out what remote codes the '2000 could go into (I think it could use all three), and find any remote on that web site that can be used in one of those modes (If it has no switch for VTR-1/2/3, the key is a ß means code 1, a "Video8" or "8" means code 2, and "VHS" means code 3.) then find one with all the functions of the orriginal remote (or at least all that you need) and then buy that one.
To Sean,I tried the remote replacement site but to no avail, the one I am chasing is RMT 234 it is for my Super Beta SL-S2000,any help greatly appreciated, regards to all Betaphiles

SL-100s are relatively common as Betas go. They were a basic SuperBeta mono unit with a minimum of extras - most notably, Sony left off RCA A/V-inputs.
According to Ray Glasser's site...
http://www.betainfoguide.com/Betachart.jpg
SL-100s accounted for 1.1% of Betas sold in the US.
How rare is the sl-100???
Hi and welcome,

Thank you for Olive Thomas for photos NEC VC-505. Also others new photos of the Video 2000 and VCR (reserved Yahoo Group Video 2000 and VCR)! It's not the head wear that concerns me it's the fact that the formulation is all wrong. You get a lot of crosstalk and interference lines in HiFi recordings - sorta like what you get if you play a HiFi tape on an old toploader.
Barring hard data, I will continue to believe that accelerated head wear with metal (ED) tapes in regular betas is just an urban myth. Still I wouldn't recommend it.

TO Olive E Thomas Thanks for the info on ED MAX tapes.I will not bid on them.
For those free downloadable manuals, scroll up a screen from the bottom of this page. It's a huge bunch of links, found by the goddess of Betamax herself, Olive E. Thomas.
That is unless you're talking about repair manuals, in which case you'll have to pay. For manuals for other machines, Sony might have them too, not downloadable, but they're usually $5 for photocopies, which is pretty reasonable.
Would anyone be able to tell me where to find free downloadable manuals?
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
You can but it's not recommended. ED tapes accellerate head wear and their formulation is not suited to use in non-ED machines. Sony even put the record protect/enable tab on the other side and leave a hole where it is normally so your VCR will just spit it out if you try to record on it...
Can you use SONY (ED MAX ) TAPES IN REGULAR VCR?
Control Board for Sony C9 Required - HELP!
I know nothing about reparing these things, but I have been told that the system control board on my C9 has failed - part no C9 -SS11. Can anyone supply a second hand board - let me know price etc please. Apparently mine is a later version and has another board 'piggy back' on top of the main board. Any advice etc. much appreciated. I live in London UK. Best Regards - Rick.
Well I thought I was going to be able to post something all smartallekey about how I needed absolutely none of those but it turns out I needed the SL-20 one. Oh well. So you can imagine something smartallekey instead. I'm sure I've said enough such things to give you all ideas.

The machine rewinds & fast forwards fine but play/record is non-functional. I was thinking it could be either the capstan or possibly a circuit problem? To Lois. Your SL-100 may have just needed cleaning. Ebay beta buying seems poretty hit or miss these days as everyone gets dollar signs in their eyes and figures they can unload their ailing Beta VCR onto someone else and put their kid through college with one sale.
Vitrually all Sony US Beta VCRs built past 1979 will handle playback of the three speeds of Beta and if the VCR you're looking at is a Sony US/Canada frontloader then it definately will.

I am sure you expert Beta operators get tired of us amateurs questions, but ask I must. Totally frustrated in trying to find machine model that will properly playback old beta tapes...not quite sure the model these were recorded by. Last year bought SL-100 and worked on all tapes ONCE through, then after rewinding, the problem of speed between (I think) BII and BIII. Distortion of picture to blank picture.
So I go back on Ebay to buy another one, find model and send email to seller requesting info on type of speed. So positive feedback, some didn't even know what BI, BII and BIII meant. I hate to go and buy 10 more of these vcrs just trying to find the one that works.
Any suggestions? And thanks for your knowledge!!! Lois
I recently came into a Sony SL-HF 900. I didn't know anything about Beta, and didn't really know what I had, but could see that it performed exceptionally well when I tried it out. I also got a load of Beta tapes with the machine.
It worked beautifully until recently, when it wouldn't do anything when I pushed a tape in to play. I had had a similar problem with a VHS VCR, and had actually ended the problem just by pushing somewhat harder on the cassette after I put it in. So....after trying a number of other things, I made the fatal mistake of slowly increasing the pressure on the cassette.....until I heard and felt something snap. Immediately there was no resistance at all -- in fact, i think perhaps the cassette and cassette carriage just "fell" into the position for playing the tape, though, of course, nothing else happened (e.g., the tape wasn't transported from the cassette around the heads, etc.) The machine will turn on and off, but I can't get it to do much more.
I now miss the good use I got out of this VCR, but don't know what to do about it. I'm in the San Francisco Bay area, but don't find any listings for Beta VCR repair locally. (One repair shop said they' look at it, but, since they "don't like working on Beta," it would cost $80 just for the look alone.) I'd try -- with a much gentler hand -- to fix it myself, but: 1. I'm an amateur; 2. I can't find any schematics or pictures of the innards of an SL-HF900 on the web; and, 3. I don't know what other units have cassette carriage assemblies identical to the SL-HF900's, in case I have to cannibalize one (...or, whether anyone would actually still sell a cassette carriage assembly for this model).
Any assistance would be genuinely appreciated.
Power supply is in a separate section. Right where the power cord comes in.
I have spare SL-HF 300 boards and PS. Weed out the (A)lmost(O)n(L)ine in my e-mail address.

Das: Congrats on the FrankenHFT7. Do you now have a spare lid for the channel tuning compartment you could part with? Or a spare RMT-135? Take the _ _ _ _ out of my address.
Probably not too hard to salvage one runner from the two. Write down how everything goes, or haul out a polaroid and make photographs if you're ambitios. That way you can't botch it up.
Have two sick SL-HFR-300s. One has the loading mechanism under the drum stuck. The clock on the second lights up but won't accept a tape and no head spins. Am I looking for a new power supply or can I switch one from the locked up model to salvage one? What does the power supply look like and where is it on the board?
Hi all can anyone help me with a instruction manual for a Sony SLHF 950 Pal.I have got right into this beta collecting now had over 6'000 original rare tapes for a few years now collected fanatically and now into collecting the machines Ive a couple of SLO1700 's and now have two of these 950 's but cant for the life of me figure out what the gadgets all do on it.Being as im not so patient can anyone help I'll either buy or swap or whatever.I have a pile of machines coming in and have shifted a few on E-bay(yawn Yawn)Im after USA machines that are pal compatible.I got a multi standard converter and a fella helped me out through this site as i couldnt fathom how to transfer pal to nTSC but can now, so if anyone in the states is after any films that are hard to find over there let me know. Also let me know if anyone can get me a multistandard beta machine that'll work here and play pal tapes, If im asking too much tell me to F**k off, and not too many at once please, haha!Cheers again to a great site for the help AGAIN!
Good day everyone. It has been a while since I have posted to this page here, and have had a variety of things go on in life here with regards to a possible move nd finding work, but I am still very interested in the Betamax format. The problem I am having is that I can't seem to find any gear I.E. tapes, recorders ETC. I am currently in the Detroit, Michigan area, and am looking either for a Betamax unit that comes with a camera, or the Betamax machine that used to come in the package with the old Trinitron TV sets, and of course some tapes! If anyone is in this area please E-mail me and let's try and work out a deal here, and thanks in advance.

I have a near mint RMT-124 that's not doing anything anymore since I've just upgraded to a better Beta. $25 + shipping a fair price? If you can figure out who "AlmostOnLine.com" is you'll have my e-mail address.
By the way the final round of bug checking and parts swapping for my T7 is over and now I have a nearly perfect SuperBetaHiFi. The theater FX weren't working and after chaging the amplifier I looked at the Audio board again and found one wire bus that wasn't connected. That did the trick.
Nothing like listening to the Beta HiFi Demo tape in "Concert Hall" FX. Too bad Sony never licensed technology from Dolby cuz it would've been really usefull on this machine.
Then get the closest Sony remote witha "Betamax" or VTR-1 type thing with all the funtions you need. The 124 isn't too complex
I did get the remote site, but they did not have the model RMT-124. No one has it.
you can't. you have to scroll up to the top and click "Create a New Chat Message." Too bad it's not like mazdaworld.org where you can quote people so they'll know just what the heck you're referring to.
How do you replay to a chat? I see no selection allowing a reply.
Replacing one of those isn't too hard. try http://www.replacementremotes.com/ They have lots of remotes for betamax. All American and most Japanese Betamax VCRs used the same remote code. Sony Code Number 1. Lots of modern Sony remotes can handle it. They've got a switch. But the RMT-124 isn't hard to find so you should be able to get a new one.
I am looking for a remote that will replace the RMT-124 for the Sony SL-25 VCR.
Well I guess I'm now officially a SuperBeta HiFi owner as I was able to Frankenbeta a work SL-HFT7 from this busted one and another one that was also busted.
The guy offered me a full refund of the VCR's price but I decided to be honest and tell him I was able to get something going after all. No sense in blowing Karma points for a few lousy bux.
Now I'm wondering if I should use the "Charcoal" (black) cover parts or the "Mauve" (pink)...

Hi all. Nice to see some other Betamax fans out there, although I feel a bit odd posting about my NTSC problems on the BetaPAL site...
Anywho, I have an EDV-9500, Sony's top-o-the-heap ED (Extended Dyanmics)-Beta player. It's a beautiful machine, with a massive metal chassis, huge motors which shuttle the tape smoothly and quietly, and fantastic playback quality when using metal tapes (I use used BetacamSP tapes I get from the post houses I work at; perfectly compatible and much more robust than consumer ED stock...)
However, all is not perfect in Beta-land. My baby broke one of its heads, and I need to get it replaced. No problem...head assemblies are still available, and my guy knows where; but without a maintenence manual, he's shooting in the dark as far as alignment goes. Thus, while the head assembly will cost me a (reasonable) US$300, the manpower to align it is estimated at more than double that. OUCH! Now, if I had the maintenance manual, thing would be a lot simpler; and simple=cheap.
Any help in obtaining one of these EDV-9500/ 9300 manuals would be greatly appreciated...NTSC, of course!

To R. Howell with the SL-HF1000: Superbeta recording does not require a PRO-X tape. PRO-X tape is NOT a metal tape. NEVER play a Betacam SP or other metal tape in any machine other than an ED-Beta. Since DVD came out years after Sony designed the last Betamax machines there is no all-in-one device to transfer Beta tapes to DVD. You can just as easily hook a Betamax to a DVD recorder as you could any other VCR and indeed transfering to VHS first is a bad idea because not only do you lose a video generation but with every pass of an older video tape, there's the chance of losing more and more data.
Most professional Video transfer places will have a Betamax VCR for DVD transfering if you don't want to go through the hassle of doing it yourself.
I have three betamax players and several hundred tapes. the players are sanyo top loading types and two work great. One eats tapes. I am looking for people that want to buy the players solo or package. i am also selling the tapes. all the tapes work or at leasst all that I have tried for that matter. Please email me if there is a tape that you're looking for!
I am in dire need to get old beta tapes transferred to DVD. Is there a machine out there that can do this or do I need to transfer to VHS first?
I would like to take this time to say hello to all of my betamax chat friends. I just finished finals and the were a pain, but I'm glad to see that the support is still there for the beta army... Viva La Revoloution!

To get something remotely close to back on topic, I remember once seeing someone post here a link to an Ebay auction of a Beta copy of "Deep Throat", and it had a unique cassette shell design, featuring no window whatsoever and a big label on the front. I've seen similar shells on cheapie VHS promotional tapes for excercise equipment and stuff, but has anyone seen the beta ones on other serious productions?

Only saw two SLV-585s on eBay so if you paid $32 bux you did all right for a VHS deck. $50 bux and you probably could've bought a new Panasonic HiFi for only a few dollars more if on sale.
If you won this thinking you were getting a Beta machine you pretty much got probed Roswell-style....
Wayne, that model number sounds suspisciously like a Sony VHS HiFi deck. They did make some nice ones so if the price is right you might spring for it anyway, but dont' get fleeced on a VHS machine when what you really want is a Beta. Betamax decks will be have the SL or SLO, EDV, or GCS prefixes. Console televisions with Betamax (Only one was released in the US, more in Japan) will have the TV prefix, which will probably be LV. The US model was LV-1901. A Japanese example would be the KV-27V1.

The porta-player was engineered down from the deck half of a Sanyo 2-piece. It even has the 10-pin socket below the RF out, but no separate video-out or audio-out RCA jacks. There's one in my basement that needs belts.
