That was yours Brenda? I was eyeing an SL-HF 750 and an SL-HF 900 that were going cheap because they were broken. I'd give you the $20 bux and shipping for the NEC-amie if you haven't had a nibble yet after I see if I can get either the 750 or the 900 first.
Hi,
What is it???http://talkingboxing.com/articles/smithplunkett.html
It isn't cassette Betamax, but it's Betacam SP in Hungary!http://etischer.com/page6.htmlhttp://home.comcast.net/~dropfolder5/IMG_1210.jpg
Best regards.
The 5101 is one of the early front loaders of the 5000 series - circa 1982-3. It is very similar to the 5000, the first Beta front loader. One difference, though, is that the 5101 uses a wireless remote, the RMT-313, which I believe has only power, program (tv/vtr) and transport buttons - no channel up/down. It has one of those "speedometer" type counters, unlike the hard-to-read fluorescent displays of today :P
As for specs, it's a two head design, tunes the usual uhf, vhf and mid and super band cable channels (only 14 of them at a time though), has line inputs (in front) and outputs as well as the vhf ones - audio in/outs are mini-jacks though. Seven day, one event timer (I think). It weighs in at a hefty 30 pounds give or take a few ounces. They're huge, and may not fit in your more contemporary AV cabinet.
Unlike I think all other series of betamax frontloaders, the tape bay is on the right-hand side of the unit. Preset buttons are on the left, with the setting dials accessible through a panel just above on top of the unit.
Important note: this model has a flip down door under the preset/clock panel that conceals the programming buttons. Photographs tend to belie the obviousness of a missing door.
If I found a good one on eBay, and had a use for it, I'd bid 50-ish. Much above that, you'd do better to look for a better Sanyo model like a 4650 or a 4670 - which everything else being equal, will cost somewhat less to ship as well.
OK.. I couldn't even get an opening bid of $20 on this.. so if anyone wants it for the cost of shipping, let me know.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39830&item=3081230633
Does anyone have info on the SONY Betamax BETA VCR SL-5101 ?thanks for any info
Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll look for the Changer socket, and, on top of that, I think it even has a PCM switch. It's got its remote, too, I think I can find a use for it...
Sean, Forgot to tell you - the 5400 is noted for a squealing capstan motor. Mine doesn't make a peep but I know others that have had this problem.
Sean,
I've got a SL-5400 and is one of my favorites. It has a very clear picture and is pretty simple to work on. MCM still sells a belt kit for this model. I had to replace all the idler tires a couple years ago cause the rewind got a little slow. The tires solved this problem so I bought another set just in case they become obsolete. It's a wonderful VCR and I'am sure you'll enjoy it!

Forgive me for saying the forbidden word.. but I need to ask..Does anyone have any pictures of Ferguson VHS 3v42 and 43 ?or can anyone tell me what is the different between these models?I just need to check something to confirm which service manual to getMany thanks :)
Help .....again I bought a Sony HF-950 for £250.00 about 3 months back now i am used to SLO1700 's and the usual Sanyo's and Sony varieties so was well chuffed to get this its been a great little gem. Here in the naff uk for betas we're almost dead, this was my pride and joy i use it a lot and today it wouldnt eject. The chassis is coming out but not far enough and the tray is not springing up.The eject button is sounding and knocking the chassis out so far but again its not lifting the tape in the tray.If I do it manually ie lifting the tray and putting the tape in after a bit of messing it does it winds the tape and functions ok but then to eject i have to pull the chassis out and lift up the tray. Can anyone help, i'm in the u.k. so if anyone can advise me on either how to do it or where to get it done i'd be grateful. If it can be repaired and serviced by anyone id pay whatever it takes. As I say I have 3 SLO1700 's and a couple of other sonys but this is my best one, my mate got another from e-bay that was a jap import but i aint seen any others.PLEASE HELP....CHEERS

Well the good news is that VR-9000W (which is an SL-5400) can take the AG-300 tape changer.
Just came into a windfall Zenith VR-9000W in its box with remote. Seems that someone replaced its belts at some time since there are the torn-open packages of belts with some questionable belts stuffed into them. Unfortunately I believe that this is the equivilent of the SL-5400 not the 5800, which would've been cool. However it's still a good looking unit and it might still work. I have to test it out but I've been busy lately... Any advice?
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
I'm thinking the VCR came to them in the box of the VCR that replaced it and they copied a buncha crap off the box. Or they just cut-n-pasted a buncha snazzy sounding VCR description text.
Olive,
Your seller above certainly earns either the most dishonest, or most stupid seller of the year award.. it looks like he took what he could off the machine itself, and then found a VHS Hi-Fi ad and copied the specs from it. And I'll bet there's some poor soul out there that doesn't know the differnce that will bid on it thinking they're getting a top of the line VHS machine.. I personally like the part about "rewinds a T-120 in less than... " They must stick it in sideways, huh? ;)
Really, there's nothing wrong with getting a high price. On Ebay that's just the way it goes. You win some, you lose some, but you can score big with unassuming items. What there is a problem with is misrepresenting an item so badly that people think it's something it's not, it doesn't matter if you're selling it for an expensive price, a cheap price, or even giving it away. Plenty of other people have done similarly well selling SL-2300s for what they are; Low-end Sony VCRs. I really don't see any reason to try to pass off a Volkswagen as a Lincoln when plenty of people buy Volkswagens at fair prices anyway...
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
Well Scott I can only congratulate you. You put a start price of a buck on this and it went through the roof. Though for that same bid price I got a working SL-HF 360 SuperBeta HiFi AND a working SL-T50ME PAL/SECAM/NTSC multisystem Beta (with the remote and a couple PAL tapes to start off with) with change to spare. Now either those Betas could have 'owned' your SL-2300 and made it like it.
For the same price I probably could've bought a Vidimagic Beta VCR/projection TV on a good day. Or one of The Snail's lesser VCRs.
There is no logical reason for SL-2300 to do so well on eBay. I don't regard the SL-2300/2400 series as being very reliable. The ones I've found all suffer from dried capacitor syndrome which makes me think that Beta was built too densely and overheats accordingly.
I can only presume people are getting more desparate for Betas to transfer their tapes to DVD as DVD recorders penetrate the market and just don't know any better.
I bet if you asked for anything more than $50 bux it would still be sitting by it's lonesome. There seems to be some sort of voodoo working that the low starters do better in the long run and the high starters have to get relisted again and again.
And Bobby, apart from the usual complaints of being as old as the u-matic format I'm pretty much OK. Thanks for asking.
What's happenin to Olive.....
There's nothing wrong in getting a high price for an item but there is something wrong with misrepresentation, such as stating that a SL-2300 is among the finest (in which case they're ALL the finest), and saying that it actually responds to a IR remote control.
Whats the problem with the folks out there? Apparently theres a mysterious price police that looks after ebay prices. well let me ask you guys a question. If you have the chance to sell an item at a good price vs at a low price what will you do? Also, apparently there are people on this board that ridicule others selling their system off, but when its their turn to sell they demand high prices for their junk!
wtf!
I call this " terror pricing"
wheres homeland security when you need it?
Hey all,
Does anybody know where I may be able to download a copy of the manual for my SL-HF 950? Thanks
max
Hello again all. Well, Olive seems your assessment of my top-of-the-line SL-2300 was way off. Got a wopping $177 for it...HA HA!!!
http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3080443247&category=39830
And don't tell me all those bidders are idiots. You people, Sean included, got severe problems. You probably wanted to steal this off me for yourselves at a low price. After listening to you, I would have let it go for $50.00. Nice try gang.
BTW, the plasma remote DID work some of the functions.
I'm suprised at a chat page that specializes in Betas would knock one of the finest Betas ever made. I'm out of here....--->Scott

It's a Yamaha 4X drive. I have it in an old IBM 5.25 external floppy drive case.
What speed is your SCSI burner, Olive? We have a nice older Plextor PlexWriter 12x4x32 drive that works great, but we don't use SCSI for anything anymore... would like to see it go to a good home.

Suck it RIAA! I just ripped my first CD on my new (well old) Mac SCSI CD burner!! Yeehah!
Now That's a damn cool story! Way to go!
Hello again fellow Betafans. I've been away for about 16 months; was mobilized and recalled to active duty in the Army, and spent part of it overseas in a place with lots of oil and camels (fortunately NOT Iraq!). Was released from active duty a few weeks ago, and am now trying to get my house fixed up before I return to my civilian job tomorrow. While stationed overseas, was able to grab some (seldom-available) off-duty time and do some checking around and networking regarding availability of working Betas, and after some extensive checking-around was able to land a couple of middle-eastern Betas to my collection. The first one I got was a SL-T9ME from a used dealer in Fujairah. This unit is in perfect condition, complete with box, packing material, plastic dust cover, wired remote, owner's manual in English and Arabic, and a really neat Sony product brochure (circa 1983) in Arabic that depicts all Sony a/v products available to the Middle Eastern market at that time. The second unit I got was from a contact in Ajman, and is a working SL-800ME in good working condition, although a little bit worn on the outside. This unit did not come with any accessories. Both of these Sony middle-eastern units are multi-format, but not hi-fi. After much planning, bureaucratic procedures, and mis-adventures, was able to ship these two units back to stateside (that long and complicated story is best saved for another day). Any way, I'm back home now with two middle-eastern Betas as souvenirs and as additions to my collection. I go back to my civilian job tomorrow; life goes on. Howard
I just stumbled upon your site,I actually didn't think anyone used Beta still but I guess I was wrong,Allthough I have heard they are actually superior to VHS.Rpsck on Beta lovers.:)

Hi Everyone! I haven't been here for some time. And glad to see lots of familiar names still posting here. I'm pleased to say that my GCS-50 and SL-HFR70/HFP -200 are still working well. In the past few months we've seen a lot of people coming in to have their old Beta tapes transfered to DVD. Sometimes bringing us collections of 15 or more tapes. If anyone out there wants there betamax or superbetamax tapes transfered to DVD-R let us know [email protected] or give us a call pacific time at (503) 222-9202. We transfer toPanasonic commercial DVD recorders and time base correct all tapes being transferred. We can also transfer Betamax tapes to other video formats including Mini DV, DVCAM, Betacam SP, S-VHS, etc. By the way, I have nine (9) new Sony High Grade Betamax tapes I would like to sell. Still in the original wrapper. If anyone's interested and here in the USA, make me a reasonableoffer.
i came across two sony sl-7200 machines!!! they appear to be in decent shape!! anyone interested??
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
Obviously you can't understand the concept of low, middle and high ends of a product line. The SL-2300 was the cheapest Sony you could buy in it's day. That is bottom of the line.
The same year as the SL-2300, you could spend a little more and get either a wireless IR remote operated SL-2400 or an SL-2001 portable outfit or move up to the talking SL-2410 or Sl-2415 VCRs or shoot the works and get the top of the line SL-2710 Stereo HiFi Beta VCR.
The Sl-2710 was the most expensive model and therefore the top of the line.
This is funny! A "Speedometer-like counter"... clearly you know neither video nor automobiles... I believe what you mean is an ODOMETER-like counter, which only counts revolutions of the righthand reel by imprecise mechanical means, instead of a digital tracking pulse counter or the much-acclaimed linear time counter. Furthermore I've never had any trouble reading a flourescent display and my eyesight is terrible. (but still good enough to tell Beta Is Better!) On top of it all, research done on E-bay is no research at all. Generally any given item has a much better chance of selling for 1/10, 1/2, 2/1, or 10/1 of its value rather than its actual value. I've seen many an SL-2300 fall around the 10/1 figgure.
I liked my antagonistic, confrontational trolls much better that this crap. "Scott," you're lame. You're bush league.
Hey all. Still waiting for a nibble on my pristine, hi-end (verified by my extensive web search and e-Bay) SL-2300 Betamax. Thanks for your input, Olive. As for the plasma remote, it seemed to work fine just like the Beta seemed to work fine. What is a wire remote? Is that like a joystick? Why this is top of the line is cause it has a channel 3 and 4 switch on the back, a speedometer like counter instead of those hard to read fluorescent types of today, and also it had front mounted audio and video jacks which really set it apart from the low ends of the day. Please e-mail me and I will quote you a nice price for the unit with the original box.... --->Scott
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
Actually an SL-2300 was the very bottom of the Sony Beta line with a maximum Blue Book value of about $35. That suckers on eBay will shell out good money just to get a basic VCR just says more about the level of chicanery, shilling, price gauging and dirty dealing amongst the Beta dealers more than anything else.
It also used a wired remote so I can't see how the IR remote from your plasma TV could possibly work on it.
Hey all, I'm really suprised at the lack of response. A great SL-2300 that has been stored for 17 years and plays. Thanks for the tip, Olive. This machine was Sony's top of the line when I bought it. Let's talk. I noticed that this top drawer SL-2300 goes for lots of bucks and since this is in its original box and seems to work, what could be bad? I used the remote from my plasma tv on it and it controlled everything. Let's make a deal!
I think the only difference is the color. The 30 is silvertone, the 3030 black. The transport buttons are silver on both though, giving the 3030 that two-tone look similar to the HF500.
Anyone know the difference between an SL-30 and an SL-3030?
Hi...........wanna play with the machine..........huh

The foremost VCR you'd want is the Sony SL-F1. It's pretty much the benchmark of portable Betas in the PAL format.
Other VCRs that have the K-connector that takes an HVC camera like your HVC-3000P includes
Sony also had SL-3000P the predecessor to the SL-2000, and SL-C7 and SL-C9 which are home units with a K-connector.
From Sanyo there's the VTC-6300P, VTC-6500P home units and the portable VPR-4800P(includes Universum badged model) .
NEC and Toshiba made portable models but I don't have info on whether they released a PAL version.
hello everybody , i have just found (yes found ) a sony hvc 3000p betamax video camera(no recorder ) in super condition and would love to use it ,if that is possible, can anyone tell me what i need (what type/model of recorder and how much i should pay) i would be gratefull for any help.

And thanks Niles for pointing out that Marantz so that all the dealersnails will snap at it. was thinking of putting a nibble on it myself not that I really need a hissy linear stereo VCR..
Oh well it's over in Canada and the post office now makes you sign for all Canadian/overseas packages now cuz of that $$%#!%!! homeland security crap.
Hey! After posting my last message about my SL-2300, I took it out of the box and plugged it in. Much to my surprise, I found that I had left a tape in it 17 years ago (Disney's Jungle Book). I hooked it up to the plasma TV and hit "play". It still works like a charm. The encoding for the close captioning came through as well... That blue glow of the digital clock brought back the memories... --->Scott

I have a Sony Betamax SL-2300 for sale, if anyone is interested. It was purchased new in 1984 and has been stored for the last 17 years in the original box/wrap. It still looks pretty darn good & see no reason why it shouldn't fire right up.... -->Scott

Flea markets thrift stores and often electronics repair places will sometimes have a pot luck bin of old remotes to paw through. Worht a look...
I have just purchased a Toshiba v8600a in immaculate condition through eBay. Barely mark on the case and it plays, records and FF and rewinds with as new quality.
It is such a joy to have a true 4 head Beta with excellent slow motion and still frame capability and of course it has BNR and tape indexing "Quick Select".
I purchased one of these new in 1982 only to have it stolen a year later ...it was wonderful to find one after 20 years of searching ...now all I need to to now is track down a remote control for it...anyone got any suggestions?
Hi there i was wondering if any one there has a owners manual for (sony edv 9000 )englishAnd if is in electrnic for i.e pdf etc
Check out my revised homepage at http://www.angelfire.com/mech/stoughtonpistonheadsYou can link to my Betamax page as well as to my wasp nest photos page from there.Myself and a couple of my buddies set up this page to showcase our hobbies. I'm selling off everything. Here's what I have and what I'll take for it. I'm offering it here before putting it up on ebay (don't want to put it there if I don't have to)
New L-750 tapes, around 100 available, $1.50 each plus postage
Sanyo VCR-7300 portable Beta Hi-Fi machine with Sony camera and new battery $150 plus shipping.
Two Betamovie camcorders with good batteries $ 30 each plus shipping.
The e-mail is good, drop a line if interested.
Take care, all, and stay well.

Hi All Beta Fans, I used to repair Sony, Sanyo & Toshiba Betamax VCR's during the early to mid 1980's for a main dealer. I can get some new spare parts still but only a limited amount available now, mainly Sony but some Sanyo. I'm also looking for a model equivelent list between European & US models. Can anyone help?
SL-C9 for sale in AUstralia, for parts or repair. please have a look :)

James, check ebay.ca for betas located nearby. That way you can see before you bid.

Hi! Anyone know how much a National NV-3030E 1/2" B&W VTR in suprisingly good condition would be worth? I can't seem to find any on ebay to compare...
Hi there,I'm in canada and lookin to replace my slightly worn beta machine (sanyo vcr-4670) which no longer records nor do the video outs work. I'd prefer to get something in stereo with cable ready tuner. Super beta format would be a fantabulous bonus if I cound find one.thanksJames

No Bobby, he's looking for those manuals
Easy way to get the Babelfish to translate a page is to add
http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?lp=ja_en&url=
to the beginning of a page address. you don't have to go through the altavista front door...
It bears periodic repeating - watch out for this crook - this is what can happen if you bid early on the wrong auction. This guy got ripped off for over fifty bucks by shill bidding:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39830&item=3077382234
This seller is notorious for shill bidding, using four names. He even bids up nintendo stuff for kids. You place a bid, and he uses one of three names (dirtbikess, willijames or vintage-motorbikes) to enter creeping bids to test the max.
Go ahead - check out the items the guy who bid up this auction has also bid on (and the bidding pattern too) - guess who the seller is every time?
Don't bother telling eBay - they don't care.

Another favorite. You can move the image 360 degrees by pushing the mouse to the side and clicking (same for the BMC -3000 link above). http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~vk8m-mymt/beta/siryo/photo/gcs1.mov

To Travis check with Richard Diehl owner of Labguy's World, a site dedicated to vintage VTRs like the one you're looking for...

In the end you'll most likely have to search eBay for one....
And this weeks 'flagrant foul' award...

Item piccy and description cribbed directly from PALsite!
He's an Ebay Nazi and a scam artist. He wants the high feedback so he can demand very, very high prices. So he strongarms people into it, probably because they paid too much and wouldn't feel like leaving it otherwise.

This guy is a joke. He says no returns, no refunds, no warranty, as-is, then insists that you leave feedback first as part of his conditions in order to give him a chance to "rectify" any problems.
Hunh? How?
Since there's much of interest in C7, have a look of what I got here;

hey any ladies wanna chat or get to know each other?
Does any one know where I can pick up a Sony AV 8650 Open reel editing deck. Or an editing deck that can play 7" open reel color tapes? If anyone has any input on this it would be greatly appreciated. I have searched ebay and have come up with nothing.
