I've got a Sanyo VTC-5000 Mark II (the brown version), but I think it needs the modification to the reel motor power-supply mentioned on the PALsite Technical page for this model.
http://www.palsite.com/5000tech.html
"Sanyo produced a modification to improve drive to this motor. This involved decreasing the value of the in-series resistor in the motor power supply. "
Anyone know which resistor I need to reduce the value of, and what sort of value I should use?
Thanks!

It turns out the "Classic sony betamax video projection machine" this guy is selling is an SL-S600 still in the box. At $65 start bid it's not a bad deal if you don't need a HiFi unit. And you might still get a whiff of "new VCR" smell...

I would guess on the SL-2700 the loading belt might be in marginal shape or one of the tape detector switches are off. You might want to pop the top and have a look-see.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of the manual for my HF 450?? I sorta tried doc.sony.com, etc etc., but it didn't come up with anything but a 404 error.
Pepse.

Well, after lurking here for about a year since my SLHF 900 went away, I'm back in the Beta fold with a pristine SL2700 purchased on Ebay. This is my second 2700, so I'm generally familiar with the box but there are a couple of quirks that I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on.
First, when I first fired the machine up, there was an ... interesting ... interference pattern in the video. It was almost like interference in an RF signal, yet I was viewing through the video out port. It was a very faint series of narrow (perhaps 10-20 on the screen at once) horizontal bars, moving from bottom to top. But after playing the deck for about eight hours, they disappeared. If this is any help, the playback function of the deck hasn't been used for 12-18 months, the deck was only used as a tuner for a monitor.
It also has a quirk where it sometimes won't accept a tape. In fact, the tape won't even go in the door. But cycling the power on the deck causes either a CLICK or a WHRRR, then the tape inserts and plays normally.
At any rate, it was great to see those old Beta tapes playing again. For those who wonder about such things, tapes made on varying Betas from 1978 to 1982 played without a hitch (except for that described above). Any help anyone can shed on this will be more than great, and it's great to be back!

I have a SL-HF300 for sale now, with original remote. The reason I amselling this baby is that I can not get it regualarky serviced every two years as I did before. The local SONY store just withdrawed thisservice last year since the guy was doing this moved.
Now, the machine is having a slight problem with the tape insert, itneed one tape inserted all the time, right after the previous tape is ejected, you need to insert another tape immediately. This machine works perfect except the above minor problem.I was told buy a SONY service person locally that it might be caused by the machanic alignment in the tape transport system and I do not really need to have it repaired. It is not have much use since it is my backup machine since I purchased it new.
I have been in love with my beta machines and hope someone can have it and return its original condition. I love beta not only it is the best recoding format so far and also it can over write themicrovision copy gard so I can always copy movies from DVD and rentaltapes. If I sold this HF-300, I would have only one beta machine left(HF-900).
If you are interested in this machine, please let me know and we may make a deal on it. I just want to find a good home for it so someone can take care of it.
If anyone is interested, please make me an offer on this page.
Have a good day,H

Why didn't Sony put an EJECT button on their Beta Remote controls in all these years. You can press the two record buttons on remotes on tapes with the knockout tab for record protection removed and get the tape to eject automatically from the remote, but who knows for sure that this tab is removed except on pre-recorded tapes so you are taking a chance. Higher end newer Beta's, I believe, do have the Eject button on them, so why didn't anyone add this to simple lower model betas too?

You might want to try to see how much you can use from this PDF of an SL-20 manual. They're fairly similar VCRs to the SL-F30 - at least in body styling.

I was wondering whether anyone has a manual for a Sony SL-F30 machine which they could photocopy for me -I will ,of course pay any costs
Thanks Mike

I need manual of operation of Betamax Sony SL-400.
Hi,
Thank you for Olive & Thomas for original Betamovie prototype minicassette format in Beta! These Betamovies prototypes are in 1979 and 1980.
I don't know Betamovie Minibeta videocamera prototype that it's first model prototype (colour grey-silver). I know other famous Betamovie Minibeta videocamera prototype (colour grey dark) with solid state CCD in 1981.
Best regards.
What's up,

I e-mailed the seller and they confirmed the door is there. But $229.99 seems a bit high for a Basic (and non-MTS Stereo) Super HiFi when you can just about pick up an SL-HF 750 for nearly the same price.
It's not a very good picture, but if you look very closely, you can see that the timer control door is indeed there, it's just open to show the controls...
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
"This machine is complete no missing or broken parts."
Apart from the flipper door covering the timer controls. Well it is a Canadian selling this...
Far be it from me to begrudge a seller angling for the best price for his wares, but the incongruity between the advice and the image is nothing if not remarkable.

Sure, Snalie, email me offline and I'll give you my addy and whatever. That is my correct email here.
Pepse.
Usually the top layer of rubber is no good but underneath is still acceptable. I have a ton of pinch rollers floating around if you need one.
Well, it's been along time since I been here, but that's not the point. Anyway I plan on putting my HF 450 on Ebay and I have a small problem with it that I deduced is the pinch roller. It is abit dry rotted and I seem to recall quite awhile ago that it had been said that using a fine grade of wet/dry sandpaper would help cure this problem. I don't see where swabbing it with isopropyl alchohol will help. And tho it might be a stupid question but, would a Toshi VM 422 pinch roller work?? I have a parts Toshi but have never paid attention to see if the guts are similar to Sony's.
Later. Pepse.

Re: running the railroad (here comes my rant of the day)
Sean, one day those guys will have all the time in the world to fix your laserdisc. I regret to say our (non-vcr) shop is running that way. What is never taught but I have observed many times is that 85% capacity + 5% increase = 110% capacity. Then anything simple gets done on time and any unusual request falls thru the cracks (often forever) as sh*t piles up. There is no such thing as running at capacity. It should be a fundamental law of business, like Murphy's Law of Thermodynamics (more things go wrong under heat and pressure). I sincerely want to help the trusting customer whom I know is about to get screwed, but management only sees bigger $$$ efficiencies running understaffed. Eventually good clients will leave disillusioned, and we will be lucky to ever reach 85% again.
Yeah, Guess I'm not the only one who noticed that Andy S. went down the plughole... Any other competent Beta Repair people out there? There's a local shop or two near me, one of them can be persuaded to touch beta, the other would do it willingly, but they held a Laserdisc player of mine for something like 6 months before I gave up and bought another one, and it HADN'T EVEN MOVED in the shop. As you mentioned in an Email to me, Brenda, that's a hell of a way to run a railroad.... At least I got my deposit back!
I would consider giving a bit more (maybe $100) for a 400 with a remote.. if it were going to not require major overhaul once I got it here.. especially since Andy S. seems to have fallen off the end of the world, and I don't have the wherewithall to repair them anymore.

You need to load smaller pictures or hide them behind a thumbnailwith an "a href" "/a" tag. Anything larger than 150K is wasted on the net.
The website I run for my myself and my friends at http://www.angelfire.com/mech/stoughtonpistonheads has recieved a major upgrade. I finally figured out how to edit HTML code so I can put pictures on the pages other than the prefabricated Yahoo photo pages.

To Urban - NP-11 batteries are no longer in production. You'll have to have yours rebuilt.
To Jeff That's one of the things Sony promoted Beta for use as. Just connect to an audio source (like a receiver) flip the input switch to line and operate as a cassette deck. If you can find a PCM encoder you can really go to town.
To SL-HF T7. I could use that remote for when my 750 arrives. What do you want for it?
Hi everyone. I am working on a couple of projects here, and I just thoughtof an idea here. Is there any way that I could use the SLHF-400 as just aregular audio recorder? What I would like to do is record some materialonto a Betamax tape and possibly later transfer it to cassette. What I amthinking of doing is disconnecting the machine from the VHS machine and theTV and just connecting speakers to it, and possibly a microphone to it, andthen recording from there. Has anyone ever tried this, and how did you doit and what were the results?
Hi! My grandfather gave a Betamax camcorder Sony BMC 100P. And it is not working, becouse he didn t use it for 7 years. I have a problem now, becouse i don t have a battery, becouse the battery is empty. If anyone knows, where can i get one, please mail me on [email protected] . Thank you;-)

eeeeeeeeee Jesse willkomen...........back
Now that Brenda's posted my message looks kinda lame. I figgured it would, though... But, yeah, Brenda's right, of course :)
You can't have too many Mah... They're millamperes or something like that. Correct volts is what you need, and enough Mah. It's like how you can plug regular appliances into 20 amp outlets (the kind with the T-shaped lefthand slot), but not into higher voltage sockets. Amps is a measure of how fast a circuit can deliver power, not how much power it delivers...
Jesse:
There's this little thing called Ohm's Law.. your Ed-amie will only draw what it's going to draw, no matter what the power supply is capable of delivering. You do want the proper voltage, but the amount of current (as long as it exceeds the minimum requirements) doesn't matter. If your Ed-amie draws 1.5 amps at 12 volts, and you supply it with 12 volts from a supply that can provide 2 amps, it will still only draw 1.5 amps (and, I suspect, actually somewhat less than that, since they usually call for a supply that can handle ~20% more than the device needs).
Hope this helps.
Welcome back.
NO! edamie is still at home under a blanket to keep dust away. havent gotten a batty back for it, or a 1500 mah adapter to power it up correctly. would 2000 mah be pushing it?
Or that none of you have even noticed that I've been missing these past couple of months! :(
hee hee... J/K :D glad to be back!
It had crossed my mind, actually. So Where did Jesse go? How's the ED-cam? Ever get it to work?
I'm hurt that none of you have even bothered to ask "Where has Jesse gone?" :(
and I want a few million dollars.

On my SL-5400 it loads as soon as you put in the tape. If you're not getting anything it probably is that loading motor.
The nice thing about those VCRs is that they're pretty easy to service. The PCB set swings neatly out of the way on the underside so that you can access that motor. Take the loader belt off and try to turn the motor by it's pulley head to see if it's not gummed up. Squirt a little alcohol in the motor to loosen it up.
I have an SL-5400 service manual. I could send you copies of some of the exploded view pages if you want to service it.
THe belts should be good, it looks like they were recently changed; there's an open belt kit in the thing's box with it. NOTHING happens when you load tape, and the main motor doens't spin up... when is it supposed to spin up?
Those units are almost all belts and pulleys. Even the head motor is yoked by belts to the capstan and reel drive. Years ago I bought an SL-5600 and it's loading motor had completely frozen solid but I suspect you just have a belt and tire problem.
Anyone remember how I said I came into a Zenith VR-9000W? Well I tested it out today, and it doesn't work. It power up, but with a tape inside, it won't thread it or pull tape or anything. If anyone either knows what is wrong, or would like this unit for cost of shipping, please let me know. The email above is not valid, respond here, or, if you actually know my email, send me one.

I am looking for a remote control that has a circular joystick which works with the GV-D800 Video Walkman. I had an old RMT-V373A remote control that works with it and also has a joystick. I called Sony and they told me that they do not manufacture this remote control anymore and the only remote control on file which works with the GV-D800 is the RMT-708. The problem is that the RMT-708 does not have a joystick incorporated. Do you where I can get a RMT-V373A model are any other similar models which works with the GV-D800.

Taken care of.. and I changed the e-mail address for my Yahoo groups also, there should be no more bounces, since I've listed the e-mail from our own domain. You should be able to get that information through BetaMax Videographer...
I believe most will, although some cannot play back BIs tapes correctly. That should be the only caveat. There is also BIs-SHB (Super-High-Band) but since only three recorders could produce it, (SL-HF-1000, SL-HF-2100, BMC-1000K) It's probably not going to give you troubles.
Will any SuperBeta playback B1, B11, and B111 recorded tapes?
Thanks,

Hello Olive,i hope i can get the Toshiba V-51D Beta VCR.To Nicolas, the HVC-3000S is a SECAM Videokamera, if you want record in Color you need a SL-F1F or an SL-C9F. All Sony Beta-Pal Recorders with K-Conektor can only record in PAL. Maybe you get a bad colorpicture with a PAL-Recorder. So i had recordet DDR2 1990 (SECAM-Ost) with a PAL-only SL-C6E in poor color.
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
First off, an SL-2000 won't work with European equipment. You'd need it's European version the SL-F1. Otherwise the best decks for your camera are the SL-F1 and SL-C9. The F1 is a portable and the C-9 is a linear stereo unit. The SL-3000 isn't a bad unit per-se but the F-1 is lighter and it's batteries are more available.
Does anyone know where i can get my hands on a Sony SL-HF100UB. Mine just broke down completely :(..
I need it from UK aswell.
I said the wouldn't do anything about betavcrguy, and they haven't, not effectively. I sent them more than enough information on this turd months ago (9/03) and they just sat on it. Now, they ban only two of the (at least) four handles used by the same person. Vintage-motorbikes and Willijames (though "laying low" at the moment) are still registered.
betavcrguy was the erstwhile bluewater-tennis-company, who got banned for the same thing. He simply sat on the sidelines for a while, then came back, which he'll do again, and which ebay will tolerate again until the heat gets too much to offset the extra vig they're enjoying from the shilled up auction totals.
Methinks you might be correct....although this Canadian hasn't tried to sell anyhing...yet.

The leaky enemy:Consumer electronics (unlikely a huge najority of people may think) need to be used regularly. The leaky problem (as you may've guessed) is the capacitor. Electrolytic capacitors have to be used regularly because, if not, they leak and, apart from becoming trash, they can seriously damage PCBs. I've experienced this problem with the PAL version of the SLV-R5 (SLV-777NC) that has been stored during five years (not completely but almost unused) and now has leaked capacitors on the analog (not the Digital NICAM, but the german and MONO) audio board, and there is corrossion in it. I've broght this video to the best repair place I can (SONY SPAIN repair centre, not the local repair shop, because they did a disaster with it) and they've told me this board has no reaplacement. I recommend people not to buy "very unused" electronics because they may have problems like this: SL-HFXXX(X) new in box, never used,... bla bla bla.
I've been seriosly told of this by an expert and, at first, I didn't care, but now I'm really worried about it. USE YOUR ELECTRONIC STUFF ONCE EVERY 6 MONTHS. CAPACITORS USUALLY LEAK AFTER 2 YEARS OF "INACTIVITY".
Regards betafans ;-)(PAL, SECAM, NTSC, multisystem and derivated)
I will hold on to it for you, if you would like, Olive. At least I know with you it would be going to a good and appreciative home.

A good buy for someone just looking for a basic Beta player to transfer tapes to DVD
Five SLP-305 industrial Beta players all starting at $5 with no reserve from the same seller (must've gotten hold of a duplicator's surplus. These can handle all three NTSC Betamax speeds though they're obviously not gonna play HiFi or SuperBeta tapes though they can do linear stereo. Get a pair and have A/B-roll source decks for a Betamax edit suite.
