Hi Noel, yes, I am in the uk, as you probably know, the gear I require is the larger of the two under the head amp. If you remove the o ring holding it on, it will just lift off very easily. As these are very small and light, postage wouldn
Stuart,
You are after a replacement gear for the SLC9. The black gear "under the head amp".I have not had much problem with them and I have a lot of C9 parts machines, hence a number of secondhand spares. The issue might be where you live and postage. Are you in the UK?
Harold,
What made your old HF950 die? Was it the power supply? I have worked out a way to recondition and upgrade them and offer a changeover service for repair.
cheers Noel (betaheaven.com)
IJones, the only other place I can think of is car boot sales. You won t find any in places like cash converters! Car boot ones will probably be broken. Bearing in mind that repairs can cost a small fortune and parts are not easy to find, prices of working machines in good condition will be high. Even broken c9s or ones that have been stored in sheds or lofts are going for £50 to £80 on ebay, and ones in fulkl working order and good cosmetic condition with remote anywhere upto £ 200. But I did sell a fully working order, very clean slf -30 with mint remote on ebay a few weeks back that only went for £56.
Hello all, does anyone know where I can get hold of a betamax VCR at all in the UK? I know some can be found on ebay, but they either seem to be a)broken, b)overpriced or a combination of the two. Is there anything else other than ebay at all? Thanks
ljones
Adam, The bad caps your looking for on your SL-5000 are located on the SS-9 servo bd of your vcr.The SS-9 board is the one that has the tracking knob attached to it.The bad caps (c-7 and c-8 ) are about 3/4 of the way across the bd from the tracking knob. The caps themselves aren't marked c-7 and c-8 . This ID is printed on the board itself. The component side of the board is brown in color and is makes it easy to see.The caps your looking for are light blue in color and are close to one another.I used 35 volt replacements instead of the original 16 volt.I have a old service bulletin from Zenith / Sony that says to use the higher voltage ones but they don't give a reason .I suspect this was to prevent more future failures of those components.Who knows if it helps make the caps last longer but I'd put em in, just keep the same MF value (.1 and .22) Good luck!Charlie
Charlie
Thanks, Craig, for the encouragement about my old tapes. I actually first encountered the incompatibility notion last week on the webpage of a Betamax devotee (which of course I can't find now) He commented that tapes he'd recorded one one of his machines couldn't be read by another while the second machine could read tapes a friend had recorded on yet a third machine. (I believe the SL-HF900 and SL-HF750 might have been the newer machines.) It just gave me a bit of pause.
Ronni, In the early days of the VHS v Beta war, there were some outrageously false claims made by the VHS camp to discredit the superior format, and I think I can actually recall remembering that one about not being able to play a tape recorded on one Beta well on another. All you need to remember is you'll need to adjust the tracking control appropriately when playing back tapes recorded on other machines. As for the age of your tapes- I have many tapes, audio and video, from the eighties and late seventies that still play back beautifully; it depends on how well they've been looked after and stored all those years. Great to see the chat page and all the gang back, keeping Beta alive!...
Thanks for the clarification, Olive. I thought I'd read somewhere that Beta tapes recorded on one model Betamax machine (especially the early ones) were not always readable on another. If that isn't the case, then it certainly broadens the number of machines I can bid on.
¿live_e_th¿mas@yah¿¿.com
Ronni - The TT-2000 tuner/timer has the A/V outputs neccessary for the best possible transfer. You can use the RF output on a standalone SL-2000 to input into a DVD recorder that has RF input (most of the consumer ones that sit on/under/next-to the living room TV set do but the quality won't be as good.
There is a gizmo that connected the SL-2000 to a TV with A/V in/outs called a VMC-220A but you'd do just as well on getting an SL-2000/TT-2000 combo unit.
Or any functioning Betamax. It really isn't necessary to limit yourself to the same unit as you recorded it on.
Noel; your merchandise already dispatched.
I just found a bunch of family tapes recorded on a SL-2000 in the 1980's. The beloved recorder is long dead and gone. To capture these for transfer to DVD it has been recommended that I use the same model Betamax and I have begun haunting Ebay to that end. Do I need the tuner/timer also for capture or does the SL-2000 have the appropriate outputs? And also, with what I've been reading on this site about "squeaky" hydrolised tapes, is there really any chance they will still play? Thanks so much. I have been mourning the loss of my Betamax for many years and it is reassuring to find it still has a home here.
Good to see the chat page back! Was thinking that that was the end! Anyways, I would like to ask if anyone knows about availability of threading gears for the sl-c9. I own 5 and this gear is split on 3 of them! Its the top larger black pulley the belt goes round under the head amp can and would like to know if they can be obtained in any way other than from other c9s.Also is it possible still to get NEW head disks and upper drums for the c9? These are worn on one of mine and would like to get new ones in order to replace. The c9 I have to say is very easy to work on..late last year I had never owned a beta before but now on c9s I can replace a psu, replace threading gears either the whole unit or just the top gear, remove and clean pinch roller, and also remove and replace the whole cassette carriage. Mostly self taught but with a few pointers from another beta fan nearby!
REQUIRED. A Sony 950 at a reasonable price. Is there such a beast?Regards to everyone. (E-mail me if some kind owner wishes to sell).
I'm selllng a Sony EDV-9500 ED Beta vcr in tip top condition with manual and remote. Will put on eBay next week. I'm in New Hampshire, USA.
Hello Charlie, thanks for the reply. I tried to e-mail you, but the e-mail is not valid. I have the SL-5000 American version, of course I'm in America, Should the SL-5000 caps should say c7 and c8? I've never tested caps, If I know which ones they are, I could replace them...
Let me know....Thanks...Adam
Any idea of Rotary head not working/just jiggle/vibrate???THX for your clue.
BEST,Boby
Thanks Olive. Hope things are going well for you.
Any recommendations if I need to get this thing worked on? I've not heard from Andy in months, and he's got my 900.
Brenda - I can't think of any reason why an EDV-5000 couldn't handle BIS tapes.
Adam, The SL-5000 series of Sony betas are noted for their capacitors on the servo board drying out. This will cause all sorts of unstable picture and sound problems. I think Noel wrote a very good posting on how to correct this. His posting was about the Pal version of the 5000--the C-6. The bad caps are usually the ones marked C7 and C8 on the servo bd and if your good with a soldering iron they're pretty easy to replace.
Charlie
Hi, does anibody know the exact date of production of the Sony Betamax SL F 90 ?Best regards, Paulo
I have a Sony Betamax SL-5000, I just ordered the belt kit that contains a pinch roller and idler tire and replaced all the belts. The unit still does not work correctly, when playing a BII recorded tape, the tape plays too slow, when playing a BIII recorded tape, the tape plays too fast. The Vcr does not show a picture except for lines, but I noticed a nice clear picture when I play a BIII recorded tape in Rewind mode. Also I noticed if I press fast forward, it will rewind instead, So I can't fast forward a tape at all. I'm pretty sure this is all a electrical problem. I would like to fix or get the Vcr fixed properly, but I don't know the costs, and from what I heard is that the SL-5000 Series are more to repair than what they are worth....Let me know any info.....Thanks...
Adam
Info needed: ED Beta EDV-9000
Will this machine play ßIs recorded tapes? I've managed to pick one up with minor mechanical problems (tapes jam when ejecting), but working otherwise. Also, where to pick up a remote for the thing (lot of features only available via the remote).
E-mail is good.
TIA
Brenda Ann
P.S. Long time, no see. Hi everyone!
Olive,
Thanks for correcting the website info. How are you keeping and what are you up too?
regards Noel
to Ron;You can make a lot of pounds if ebaying HF950. RegardsBoby
I have an SL-HF100UB and also an SL-HF950, both in clean unmarked good condition, as well as about 80 tapes, mostly used once, mostly 750s, some new, some 850s. The manuals and remotes are missing, but probably somewhere among my worldly goods. I live in Wiltshire. At my age (75) it is probably time these machines were used by someone who still has wide range hearing. Any interested purchaser, please email me. Ron
Have any of you know about DSR 81 R ? (no such information from palsite)This info is quite important to me...THX in ADVRiguardi,Boby
Hi Olive,Heard from last few years post, it's said that you have SLO 1xxx machine.GrazieRiguardiBoby
Noel I got that running,THX
¿live_e_th¿mas@yah¿¿.com
That should be...
http://www.betaheaven.com/
Boby,
Thanks for that. My site at betaheavem.com is back on again. To BobD, it is possible to repair some of the load gears if you know how and the plastic has not completely broken up as a hardened mess.
regards Noel
BobD, The instructions for modifying your SL-HF-900 to record B1s can be found in great detail at BetainfoGuide.com .Scroll down and find tricks and tips --you click on that and you'll find it. As far as the gear is cocerned if it's one of the gears on the right side of the carriage thats broke you may still be able to get it if it's the one that breaks all the time on Sony carriages. Is it on the carriage? Let me know.Charlie
I hve an SL-HF 900 that recently gave up the ghost. The local repair shop (Minnesota, USA) said it was a broken gear drive and that parts are not available anymore. Is that true? Is the machine unrepairable?I read with great interest Charlie's post about modifying his 900 to record in B-1, and would like to know how that can be done--if I can get the 900 up and running, that is.
Noel, seems like your site is not working, could've been internet Backbone problem I assumed. ---#---I have plenty of high-end Betamax on Ebay lastime (NTSC&PAL). No one dare to buy for such good Betamax. They only want cheap price for great machine. Some are willing to spend hundred of bux for high-tech junks. Seems silly that they are happy with junks rather than solid Betamax machine. Worst to know that they pay hundreds of bux for only junk VHS machine. I'm just discovered that most of them do NOT know what they're buying.RegardsBoby
Hi RON, I got SLO1500 disk assy on Ebay right now......Cheers
Hi all......great to have you back...I was the one who stuck here for months!!!!!!!!HAVE ANY OF YOU KNOW ABOUT DSR87 BETAMAX VIDEO HEAD..?....... Regards,Boby
Hi guys,
It has been a long time without chat page so great to see its back. Well beta is not dead, I still see a lot of people using beta and wanting machines fixed in Australia. A lot more SLHF950s seem to be surfacing. Some of them have blown power supplies and the repair centres that are lef there dont seem to have much luck fixing them. In Australia, I do a changeover service on the SLHF950 power supply and guarantee the repair for a year. See my website betaheaven.com for contact information.
cheers Noel
Ivan.Have you tried searching on the NET for the downloadable manual you are after.Failing that E-bay.It would seem there's knowone on here who can help.....at this time....................Kevin UK
I,m Ivan and i,d like to know if anybody want to send me an copy of the SL-5800 via email for downloading i will wait your response
greetings from Mexico
Hi everyone! It's great to have the board active again.I recently purchased a Sl-HF-750 and really like it .I purchased it from the original owner and all the manuals ,remote and box were in perfect shape. My only problem with the 750 is I can't get the on screen display to work. The owners manual is very vague about it only saying it can be turned on and off by pressing the display switch. It also said to make sure the MPX filter is in the off position when using the display. So far I have been unable to get it to work in either record or playback. Am I doing something wrong or did the display part "buy the farm" ? Charlie
Yes it IS nice to see the board running again..................Kevin
The chat pages is back!
helloanyone there
Hi,all, nice to be able to post, still watching movies on my Sony SL HF 300as
Hello,
I'm looking for SL-T50Me in working condition. Please if you can make an offer,...
Hi all. I'm here in the United States. Last year a friend gave me around 100 Beta tapes that he has had in storage for about 18 years. He used to own a video store and when he closed it in 1989 he put all his movies in storage, including the Beta's. Almost all are in the vinyl clamshell cases that video stores have used, though a couple are in their original boxes. When he and his wife moved they offered all the movies to my husband and I. We do not have a Beta machine so there is no way for us to check out the quality. However, we are looking for homes for the movies so they don't go to waste. We don't want any money for them just to have the recipient take the chance and pay for postage to get them there. One person from another board took about 11 of the movies we have. He said 8 played fine, if that helps. You can email directly with any questions or a list of the tapes we have.
Hello All. Firstly I like to say that my family and myself are happy that this board is up and running.
To tell you the truth, I was having withdrawls without a place to vent and to show-case the items that I buy on the old Bay.
I was taping this fabulous film on the Turner Channel with the SLHF900 that I bought from the Cleveland Football team.. The copy was perfect thru out the film until 3 seconds at the end during the credits, I saw a faint drop out.
I couldn't never watch this movie again and even though the wife and kid begged me to let them view this movie, I stood by my morals..
I told them that when I saw this rare film on the OLD BAY, I would bid on it.. 3 years later I finally found a sealed Beta HI FI and swooped this baby up before anyone could find it.. Check out the old link below..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170104712477
My kid says he's a little too old now to watch the movie.. Well that's life and I still enjoy those little munchkins and the great color film..
Let me not digress, When I popped in the OZ film on my 900, I noticed that the color was not perfect when I played the Beta movie..
I tried 35 HI FI tapes and they all played perfect.
Could it be the sealed OZ tape ?? How could it be, it was sealed??
By the way I just tried to purchase my 12th Sony rewinder.....need it desperately cause most of mine hsve the crack in the top plastic. Here's that auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250108882245
SORRY FOR THIS RANT...IT'S JUST ALL STORED UP AND I NEED TO VENT...BEAR WITH ME FOLKS...GOTTA RUN ....JUST GOT AN EMAIL THAT I WAS OUT-BID.
I'm still looking for a perfect Sony 950 recorder. I will not tolerate 'cowboys, giving exciting descriptions that mean absolutely nothing. I will only speak to sellers who are prepared to welcome me to view their unit and then negotiate a price that is acceptable to both parties.
I am absolutely delighted that we are once again 'on air'. Please make sure that the horrific and moronic so called members are are kept away.

Welcome back PAL chatpage! We'd been worried about you...
Hi all,
just wondering if anyone in Betaland has a user manual or service manual for a Sony SL-800ME or for a Sony SLO-1700 ?
If I could borrow any of the above for photo copying that would be great - in return I can send a photocopy of maybe the manual you require [as of beta I have many!]
Any leads to finding these manuals would be appreciated - thanks
regards
Ron
Y' welkommen,I got a plenty of HF950 parts to sell...just if anyone interested in...Ah yes....a plenty sealed in aboxTDK japanese tapes too...
Boby, Thanks alot I've got a number of sources here in the U.S. Greg
A WIDE RANGE OF S T K POWER MODULE IS AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY.this could be a help but not all types are available......
betaman, Thanks alot, sometimes I hate being right, but that's the wonderful world of electronics!I funny though I have SL-Hf500 that I've had for about 5yrs or more and use it constantly for tape and thru sourcing and its been solid as a rock, so I should probably look for it to go too. Of course I know electronics live better being used and not just setting. Thanks again!! greg
Flyerman, You hit the nail right on the head! Replace the STk5441 voltage regulator in the power supply and your functions will all be restored. Plan on keeping these on hand because of most Sony betas 20 plus age they're starting to fail. About a month ago I had to replace one in my SL-HF-900. Hope this helps you out!Charlie
To all, I'm new to your group, but not to betamax. I own 4 at this time and I am having a problem with a USA version SL-HFT7. I bought this on ebay and checked it out and it worked fine at start. I went to install in my system and went to play a tape and it loaded the tape, threaded up and died. The clock is still working and you can set the time, but no other functions work. It will not power up, no other functions. I checked the power supplies 5volt constant and switched are there I'm not sure about 12volt. I do not have a manual as yet but was wondering if any of you have come acrossed this. I know that it has a SKT type power regulator and possibly it just died? I've been an electronics tech for over 30yrs , so I'm not just and tinkerer, so help please!!! Also I had to change my email to my non-bussiness account, so I resent this!
Just to add to my previous post: I'm in Bristol in the UK.
I have a fully-working C6UB Mark II Beta which takes pride of place in my bedroom, but it's a bit bulky and hell to try and move when I need to. Would anybody with a smaller frontloader consider a trade?
I'm about to put my SL-HF95D japanese BETA on Ebay wile waiting PayPal really works in my country....
I have a couple auctions on eBay of Jazz videos on Beta

Yes for sure, see noel.It doesn't cost much to post your machine off to him for repairBROKEN PLASTIC GEARS
Cassette carriage fails to operate due to breakage of the plastic gears in the side of the mechanism. Must be replaced
Noel might be a good help in Aussie.......
Hi there,
In June last year I acquired a Sony SL-F30 stereo betamax machine. This deck was running just fine until tonight, when after I ejected a tape as I would normally, it would not accept any more tapes. Pushing the tape in does not cause the loader to take over and draw the cassette the rest of the way in. Another problem is that once the power is switched on, the left hand spool rotates for a few seconds, then the "Cassette Inside" LED on the front panel lights up and starts blinking, even though there is no cassette in there.
Being in Sydney Australia, is there anywhere I could take this unit to for repair? I have a few hundred tapes I need to transfer and I can't do it now because of this problem.
Cheers,Frank
Hey someone, I need a schematic or service manual for my Sanyo Betamax mod.vcr 4650. I can'tget it to turn on and stay on, Help. Jim
I got my parts from Sony yesterday and last nite I modified my SL-HF-900 to record in B1s.It took me about two hours but in the end I was sucessful and am very pleased with the results. Most of the time was spent scanning the circuit boards hunting for the right position . There was quite a few jumper wires to add and even a couple to take out but the instructions were pretty clear. I recommend that you take your time and don't expect to do it in 15 minutes. The B1s picture thats produced is much better than my NEC VC-N65EU which also records in B1s. Sonys quality is shining through. I'am gonna do some more recording tonite but at this point in time I'am glad I modified the 900.Charlie
To Stewart with the two C9s,
It is much easier and safer to change over the power supplies between the two C9s to get one good machine. Then you dont have tape path alignnement issues or the potential of breaking a video head whilst changing over the drum assemblies.
cheers Noel (betaheaven.com)
Hello! I have recently discovered my old Sony SL-3000 Betamax recorder and HVC-2000P camera from the cellar where they were stored about 15 years ago! There are 10 or so tapes, some of which had some recordings made over 20 years ago, but look a bit mildewy and are stiff to wind. I have left the recorder and camera for several weeks to thoroughly warm up to get rid of any condensation, but I would welcome any advice before I start tinkering with anything and possibly damaging the machine or, more importantly, the tapes.Best regards,John
Products based on hog fat and its derivatives have extensive use as lubricants.. Products are made by sulfurization of prime lard oils.. When the fats are sulfurized in the presence of methyl lardate, however, the products have potential practical application. High-sulfur (active) products were made using a 50:50 ratio of triglyceride to methyl lardate, and low-sulfur (inactive) products were made using a 70 :30 ratio. For solutions, measurements of extreme pressure, friction and wear, such as a Toshiba or Sanyo brand VCR or such electrical componants were compared. Whereas products from jojoba were good, of the lard and fat group generally gave the best performance. So you see, though not legitimate at first blush, lard is an excellent source of reducing harmful friction between guides, pinch rollers and other tape bearing entities in our wonderful Betamax vcr's. They won't help machines with missing doors, however!
I just read my spelling, wow was I out of it last night. After completing the modifications you may want to attempt the lard smear to finish the job. Here is what I posted previously:
Lately I find that the best way to lubricate my Beta vcrs is to use pure cooking lard available at any grocery store. I apply it sparingly to all the parts requiring lubrication as it is superior in lubricity to molylubenium specified for this purpose and lasts longer too. I also use it to coat the inside and exterior of the lid of my Beta vcr as it produces a fine shine, cleans thoroughly, and prevents rust from occurring.
Charlie- I have had the BIs modification done to 5 900s, a few of which I have since worn out. All were done by a Sony authorised reapir agent. Would love to find some NOS of these, but I digress. It should be fairly easy, I know the price to do it went down after the first one since he ahd to figure out how it was done. The reason it is easy to do is that the Japanese version of the 900 has BIs recording built in, it was a fewture that was just left off the NA version. There are 3 positions on the speed switch. You can also partly modify one by not putting in the realy (the most expensive part) and the unit will properly playback (but not record) BIs.Thus for about $16 of parts (SOny wholesale cost) it can be done. The cost of having them all do it at the facctory would have been less. Good luck.
Stuart- I would think that it would be much easier to swap the DC to DC convertors around than it would be the head drum assembly. The head drum assembly would require aligning the decks tape path.
Hi, need some advice...I have two sony slc9s, one of which has a head drum with minimal wear (you cant see a shinier path accross the drum where tape passes) but this has a dead dc to dc. The 2nd one, you guessed it, has a good dc to dc but a worn head drum! Is it possible to swap the two head drums accross, and is it an easy job?
Thanks, Charlie. I'll give it try.Jeff
Hi everyone i'm new on here.I am transferring some stuff off old Beta tapes onto DVD everything was ok to start with but now i can only view the tapes in black and white .It is the machine as i have tried other tapes please can anyone tell me whats going on with my machine and how do i fix this problem.I have put in the cleaning tapes but no luck.
I just ordered the components to modify my SL-HF-900 for recording in B1s. It seems pretty straight forward. Has anyone out there done this modification sucessfully? The parts are really inexpensive and I often wondered why Sony just didn't do this right from the factory? Oh well I'll let everyone know how it comes out.
Charlie
Wow... Not one, but TWO SL-HF1000 on ebay right now! It never rains...
Jeff, The fact that the tape is moving tells me it's probably working all right. It just might be that you don't have it hooked up correctly to your tv or the RF switch is set on the wrong station to which your trying to play back. The RF switch is on the back of the vcr and can be changed to 3 or 4 . Match your choice to your tv and you've got it made. Most people play back on channel 3 and forget there is a switch.Hope this helps.Charlie
I have Sony Beta SL-300 I like to sell. Everything works except I don't know why but it will not play tape. I took the cover off and tape seems to run real slow. Thanks,Jeff
Doctor1024(405); I opened my VCR4650 looking for a board number like you asked, and this iswhat I found. No numbers like you indicated, but its the board on the top of the unit. Somenumbers I found are; VD-1 Loc NO.1101, 4-230v-27101B. The switches that seem to be causingthe problem are at the rear of the board. S1-(Remote), S2(A.out), S3(V.out), S4(A.in),S5(V.in) These I think are latching relays, that when the on butten is prested the unit willcome on through one of these relays (I think). But it clicks on, and goes right off again. At first I was able to play a while before it kicked off,I could turn it back on a play alittle longer befor it kicked off again.I thought things were draging so I started lubercating and spraying the contacts and it worked fine for a while, and now it just is offand on and won't stay locked on. I really can't find (by sound) which relay it is. That' thereason I need a schematic. Also in the middle of the board is a- (Delay Line MS 204225V-209 84B34) what every that is. On the left of the board is the (Audio Block Loc.NO.2001) I'm sorry a rambled on about this, but I hope you can help me out. James Reames
Hi folks..it's been a very long time since I met all BetaLuvEr...I have several Beta parts for sale esp PAL HF950 ES type , lemme know if I meet your requirements, and TDK japan made tapes sealed in a corrugated box.Juris,Noel Higgins,Olive,Brenda; its my pleasure to meet you again.Regards,Boby
James - Can you identify the actual circuit board? It should be marked PW-1 or PW-2. I scanned PW-1 but had to shrink it down quite a bit because it's a color scan and the hosting service has a size limit. If you could better isolate the location on the board maybe I can get a bigger scan of the appropriate area.

NOTE: More than one person posts to this board under the name I am using. The E-mail addresses associated with this name are ALWAYS fake, and eBay member Doctor1024 does NOT post to this board.
I have tried to crank up my Sanyo Beta VCR 4650.It acted like it was going to be alright, but it suddenly shut down. After trying several times turning it back on, with no success,I figured outthat a latching relay was not holding lock in,but without a schematic I couldn'tlocate witch relay wasn't working. I sure need some help, and a schematic.Jim
I don't know what's in it for you weaving these idiotic, informationally value-less and verbally retarded tales, especially since I'm evidently the only one here stupid enough to read them. But if it fulfills your theory on catharsis, what the hell. It doesn't cost me anything. But I really wish you would look into the thrills and rewards of stamp collecting.

Let the good times roll... :)
Hey Mr. Doctor,I would not suggest using afood-based product as a lubricant for your VCR for a couple of reasons. The lard may break down chemically due to expose to air, heat orcontaminants, and not be as lubricating. It may also attract bugs. Supposedly roaches are attracted by the plastic wrappings on wires in TVsets and have been known to eat the wires and fry TVs. These and otherbugs may be attracted by the scent of lard as food for them and have aparty in your VCR.
You do seem to make a lot of purchases on eBay, are you a collerctor?

Possible good deal here though: Pioneer VX-50, clone of the SL-HF400 IIRC, $40 BIN. Dollars get you donuts though that the front control panel door is missing.

Let me say this one last time in answer to all the idiots e-mailing me on the subject:
Betacam tapes are OXIDE based FerroCobalt doped tape. Betacam-SP tapes areMetal Particle Tapes, not needed for SuperBeta or SHB-B1s at all, but workfine if used for such, if you can afford it. Betacam-SP tapes are NOTdangerous or injurious to SuperBeta VCRs at all !!! In fact they run eversmoother with less wear than Oxide Tapes, by far , as has long been shown inlaboratory tests. Where does such Wrongful misinformation get started?Chromium Dioxide tape when introduced to the audio and video world in 1970 wasalso "rumored" FALSELY, to be injurious and damaging to standard tape headsin older recorders. This was untrue also, as Dupont, who "invented" Chrometape, proved that they ran, smoother, and were LESS wearing to heads thanstandard Oxide tapes.
Why do people persist in believing that every NEWadvancement in Tape Technology is detrimental to previous technology heads????I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology, and yet this "logic" or "lack of it"eludes me totally, when it comes to man's stupidity!!! The only "TRUTH" thatcan be demonstrated as real is that Americans universally have always, historically, made the worst possible choice of technology, when given achoice. The American dislike and abandonment of BETA, is not the only mistakewe have made, historically, in superior technology. All Toshiba models are superior to Sony, only the public never discovered that fact....the remote syndrome that I described in detail earlier was it's only fault.
Still waiting for help in Seattle.
Overgraded Beta of the day:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220083228035
Per seller - bought new, barely used. Never abused or mistreated. Two doors torn from unit. Even the small, poor quality photos show a dent on the top of a filthy, scuffed up machine.
Per seller - missing doors don't affect anything. Top door engages AFC when closed but if you like channel drift, I suppose you're not affected by this.
Yuk. Hopefully bidders will see the rambling description for what it is - detached from reality.

Hello Deb, There are people on here using my name.
As you can see by the above auctions, I buy Betamax's all the time and also have purchased a few L-750 tapes. So I know exactly what you need. My problem with these tapes tha they had a saw cut and were not new. I was so mad that I emailed him 200 times..
Check out the Sony Commercial Beta I got for $10.00 on the old Bay
The only problem was many parts were bad, the head was missing (BUT) I was able to aligned it and had it back together and ready to go in 20 minutes
Please check the above eBay auctions and personal information to see what I bid on and you will get an idea of what you need.
There's a MORON using my name talking about a SL-10 Frankebeta.over and over again. He goes from one auction to another finding high prices on shipping and the posting here like we give a crap.
Good luck Deb..The DOC @eBay
Deb - probably not a good idea to solicit volunteers for such services on this board at this time. Professional video companies can do this, and there are a number of persons on eBay who offer the service as well and have for some time.
Note that more than one person posts here under the name that I am using here, and the E-mail address is phony. Good luck.
I have 3 L-750 Tapes in Betamax which I would like to have tranferred to a DVD or VHS.They are short instructions for making doll house items. Can anyone do this and if so what would be the cost.If this is not practicle would someone please let me know so that I won't keep checking.Thank you,Deb
OOPS... some in the stack I forgot to mention:
For sale a Sanyo 7250 Superbeta/Hi-Fi VCR.
The VCR is in goodshape and includes the remote control and a new Sony L-750 video tape(sorry, no box or manuals). The VCR has new heads with only 15-20 hours ofuse, and the tape path was also aligned and cleaned, along with replacingthe rubber idler tire. The VCR has some scuffs and scratches on the topwhich I've covered up with a permanent marker, so they're not verynoticable. It also has a slight amount of fogging on the right side of thedisplay which is barely noticable. As very common with this model, the doorhinges are broken, but the door is otherwise intact. The remote isscratched up, but works perfectly. I've tried to provide the information asaccurate as I can, and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answerthem.
I'm asking $525 + shipping for this VCR, but am open to anyreasonable offer. I will ship via the carrier of your choice.
SONY SL-HF 750.
I paid $400.00 for this machine off eBay, the seller told me itwould play tapes but no video, so I figured it would need head cleaning, new heads, etc.. He insured the thing for $500.00, sent it to me fromCanada. The unit arrived, it has no POWER, I have no way of checking itout. I contacted the Post Office, they won't do anything because it's fromCanada, I have to return it and have him file the insurance claim. Herefuses to let me do this. I wonder why he insured it?
I've already got oneworking SL-HF 750, the SL-HF 860D, an SL-HF 2000, and an SL-T50ME, and thisextra 750 is just taking up space. If someone wants to make me an offer, the case is in very good condition.Includes the users manual, English and French, no remote however.
More stacks of Beta for sale in future posts. Give me a shout if you desire a particular model...I have at least one of each!
My 'stacks' of Betamax VCR's are high, my wife is angry & threatening to leave with my son in tow, sooooo....I'm letting these gems go for a song:
Offered here, subject to prior sale or withdrawal, is an assortment of wellused Beta VCRs.
Toshiba vm415; manual, no remote. This unit probably just needs new belts, asit still frames a pre-recorded tape very nice. But it will not engage in playor record, at present. Offered for $288.
Sears 5318; a top-loader from 1981. Cosmetically, it's seen better days;several buttons are missing. A tape is jammed within, the motor whirrs, butwill not wind/eject, etc. Offered for $224.
Sanyo 3900-II. Does not power up, or function. Would make a nice paperweight.Offered for $199.
Toshiba vm32; it's crying for medicare. Eject needs manual assistance;play/ff/rew tries to work. Perhaps just needs belts. Offered for $152.
Shipping on each item is $29.50. Check my eBay feedback. Pickup in Seattle is permissable.
These are Betas I purchased from eBay during a period of time when I went off my medication.
It sickens me to part with these rare gems at so low a cost, but marriage & family come first.
Ebay sleazebag du jour:

SL-HFR30. $9.99 BIN. Oh - shipping will be another $80. Media Mail.
My guess is that he probably would actually try to send it Media Mail too.
Feedback history is not a pretty one either. Shows how misleading numbers can be.
Some of my finest possessions:
Toshiba V-M30: Nothing special, regular Beta, mono, non slim chassis. I got this from my schoollibrarian, with maybe 50-75 tapes, for $10. Didn't RRor FF very well but I fixed the little rubber wheel,by taking a finger nail file to it and making it gripbetter, so now the RR and FF works. If you have amachine that eats tapes and check and see if it isthe rubber wheel, it's mostly older machines.
Sanyo VCR-7200: Most of you know this machine. It's BetaHiFi, non-slim chassis, good machine with Sanyovideo quality :-(. Unlike most other machines thismachine doesn't pull the tape around until you pushplay, like VHS. It makes for a good rewinder. Mygrandpa gave this machine to me, with 50 tapes
I'm in the Seattle, WA area. Can someone help me lift the stacks off an SL-5000 I need to repair? Let me know when you want to come over we'll have a beta good time!
oops sorry i made an mistake in the reference of the IC it's : SONY 186 814704 not 804714.
Color scan of spec sheet for the rare Sanyo VCR7500. You won't find too many of these on eBay. This model had an MTS tuner in addition to Hi-Fi playback. Very nice machine.

Hi, I need con convert a Beta PAL video to DVD NTSC, I have everything except the Beta PAL VCR. Does anyone have one for sale?
Regards.Luis Campos.
The most elusive and rare Sanyo Super Betamax is the Sanyo 3900 which was a high end monaural model of 1986. It featured all the bells and whistles of the Sony SLHF-750 but lacked it's Beta HiFi feature making it a high priced multi-featured Betamax that was stellar in performance and features but seldom chosen as it was totally mono and most people wanted HiFi Stereo sound by that time as featured in most 1986 Super Beta VCRs especially at the high end price. Thus we have a rare Betamax seldom seen, but beautiful in design and performance as well as deluxe features of the top of the Sanyo Super Betaline. The Sanyo 3900 Super Betamax featured double azimuth triple heads, with crystal clear freeze frame at all speeds, recorded at BII and BIII in Super Beta, and had super slow motion that was available at several speeds with crystal clear motion and picture in that mode too. It was a magnificent Betamax that was eclipsed in its time by the SLHF-750 that had both Super Beta, B1s recording and Beta HiFi-Stereo performance which the 3900 lacked. The SLHF-600 which was directly priced below the Sanyo 3900 also had advanced features and SuperBeta Stereo HiFi but was less expensive so it was often chosen over the Sanyo 3900 too. This made the Sanyo 3900 one of the truly "phantom" rarities of the 1986 Sanyo Super Beta line but nonetheless it was a magnificent machine.
FYI, it was I who straightened out that SL-10 debacle with the Canadian seller. Aren't I a Troublemaker!
