Hi. I wanted to add a little more information on my SL-HF860Dproblem. It doesn't seem like a bearing problem in the motor, as Idon't notice any spots where it's harder to move. Also, the warble onthe linear sound is a fast warble, not slow. And, the white line onthe picture shows on the picture about twice a second. So, it seemslike the servo isn't locking in. Could the capacitors in the servosection be the problem. And if they were, would that also cause thecapstan not to start on its own? And, as far as capacitors going bad,do ceramic and tantalum capacitors tend to go bad, or is it just theelectrolytic capacitors that tend to dry up and go bad? Thanks foryour help!
Carry On films wanted on Betamax in original boxes please. Thanks,Nick
Sorry I can not write emails from where I am, this message is addressed to Adam...
I have a cosmetically perfect SL-2700B at home. You may consider replacing all of your cabinet parts with mine's. The loading mechanism (prone to gear problem) is also perfect and I may pack a replacement brass loading gear assembly. Sorry I don't have a remote.
Be aware that the unit's electronics are totally thrashed and there is not much that can be done with it except using the parts.
I let it go for $40 but you pay shipping.
email me if interested

When I press play my TV switches to AV2
I noticed an enquiry for replacement / rebuilt NP-1 batteries.
If there is a demand, I may be able to rebuild these (and other) batteries.
As an example, it seems possible to provide a 4 Ah (ie 4000 mAh)rebuilt unit of the same weight and interchangeable as regardscharger and safety features with the originals.
I would need the dead battery first.
The 4000 mAh rebuild can't be cheap in small quantities - about £ 150each, plus VAT and transport.
A rebuilt unit with 1700 mAh capoacity, lowest 1-off cost about £ 58plus VAt and transport.
Other batteries, including 'less-added' (ie lead-acid) ones, please ask.
I am trying to buy a camcorder in USA that will work in India. Can anyone help me with the exact format that I need to buy for India. I know it is some sort of PAL but now I see that PAL-format has multiple types and have no clue which one will work in India.
Thanks, in anticipation!
Hi, I'm new to this forum and have questions about beta. I want to get started in collecting equipment, but I'm starting out with just one beta tape of me when I was just a baby. My Uncle recorded this tape on a Sony TV and VCR all in one unit. Unfortunately he sold the VCR at a garage sale in 1983, and the closest I got to learning it was just exploring it when the TV was off. I believe he purchased this in 1975 or 1976. The TV was a floor model with a compartment for a VCR with a plastic dust cover. The beta deck was a top load unit with piano key controls. I'm looking for a VCR like what I described, but just the VCR. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.
RE: NP-1 batteries
Current Sony Betacam Camcorders still use the NP-1B battery units which is a High-Octane (12v 2.3 Ah) version of the NP-1 (12v 1.5a).
The Markertek broadcasters supply company at http://www.markertek.com sells both as well as several NP-1b clones. The NP-1 (EPP-114) sells for $74 American the NP-1B (EPP-114-2.3) sells for $85 American
They also sell an "NP-23" model NP-1b Battery equivelent at $79.99 American
You should check your owners manual (if you have one) to see if your particular machine can take the added amperage.
I have a Sony SL-HF 300 Beta Hi-Fi VCR with the Service Manual, Remote, and 133 Original, Recorded Beta Tapes for sale. I also have a Beta Tape Rewinder and a Dry Beta Head Cleaner. I am asking $300.00 plus shipping for it all. I don't have any more room to store all this. I have a DVD and Laser Disc player, and I want to make room for the DVD movies I have. I have Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Last House on the Left, Maniac, Bloodsucking Freaks, just to name a few of the beta tapes that are included. E-mail me if you would like a complete list of the beta tapes that are included.
Just to set the record straight about batteries:
AH stands for amp hours and refers to the amout of current the battery will supply for a given time. For example: a 2.3AH battery will supply 1amp for 2.3 hours, 2amps for half that time and so on. The camcorder will only draw what current it needs, so as long as the battery voltage is the same, the AH rating is not important. Hope this is of some use.
Greetings,
Can anyone tell me the recording time I'd expect to get (or equiv. length) for Betacam 20- & 30 -minute tapes if used in a US Betamax (@ ßII/ßIII)? Thx
20 minute Betcam tapes are like L-500s 30 minute ones like L-750s
If they are the metal tapes for the SP machines they will ruin the heads in a non ED Beta machine.
I don't think there is any harm in using SP (metal) tapes in a regular beta machine. After all the metal is encased in plastic--otherwise it would rust and be useless.
Thanx "Doc" for that niblet of info. I guess that means I should pay the extra 10 bux for the NP-1B battery. Anybody know what the run time on an SL-2000 attached to an HVC-2200 camera should be with an NP-1 1.5 Ah Battery? One of my three batteries gives me about 45 minutes one about 20 minutes and the last only 5 minutes (I'm pretty sure that one's a dead one.)
I am looking for any beta games - Hockey if possible.. I will pay top price for them or trade.. Whatever you do don't throw them away...Please contact me...
You can't use SP tapes in a regular machine as their record tab is in a different location and there's a hole where the record tab for regular beta should be. Cover the hole with tape you say? Well I actually put an SP tape in an ordinary shell, recorded stuff on it and found that the picture looked kind of overmodulated or something like that. I really don't recommend using SP tapes in regular Beta machines for that reason.
To the guy who got an SL-HF 1700 for 5 pounds.... I picked up a BMC-220 Camcorder for the princely sum of FIVE DAMN DOLLARS! The guy who sold it couldn't get it to do anything but eject the tape. He didn't know that you needed to have a tape with a record tab in it to get it to work. I offered him five dollars because that's all I had on me. BEAT THAT!
Of course I had to wait a couple weeks before I could get a Beta tape for the machine and a few months before I got hold of a half dead Sanyo 4400 to play the tape.
Now five years later I have three (working) Beta machines(after going through nearly a dozen of them) with a fourth on the way, a video camera, a superbeta camcorder and about 187 beta tapes. Now if only I could get hold of a working HiFi unit...... Sigh.
Okay, I've worked on my SL-HF860D some more, and have come to theconclusion that the capstan motor is fine (though, I could be wrong). If I do a recording on the machine, I still have to start the motorby hand, BUT, then if I play the recording back in my SL-HF300, itplays back perfectly. But, it still won't play tapes, or start thecapstan motor on it's own. Someone help me get this fixed, please! :)You can leave a post on the board and/or email me [email protected] you!
Well, as for cheap machines I pick one up this past summer for $5. The voltage regulator in my HF750 died and I needed a vcr quickly, so I looked in the local trade paper and seen an ad for a Betamax machine for $50 with 26 tapes. Called the people and went out and got the deck (Toshiba VM 40), owners book, remote and 26 previously blank tapes for $35. They bought it new in '83 or '84 and used it off and on for about two years and then bought a vhs. Put the beta in the closet and decided to clean house and offered the deck and other things for sale. Anyway, got the deck home hooked it up plugged it in put a tape in and nothing happened. Called them up and said I could bring everything back as it would be the right thing to do. They said they had no use for it, so if I came back out they would give me my money back. Went there and said that they only had to give me $ 30 back as the tapes were worth $5. SOLD. Went home, took the bottom off and noticed that the belt for the capstan had melted/deteriated over the years. Had a new belt from a vhs that was about the same size and bingo, one good running beta with low hours and in great condition. I was using my HF750 for archiving my things and recording soaps for my wife; well the Toshiba did her soaps 'til she bought me a cheap vhs for her soaps. So I put the Toshiba in storage for emergency use only, or willsell it when I get another Superbeta HI-FI for daily use. Later. Pepse.
Cheap machines eh??
I got a Sanyo VTC5000, VTC6500, VT -NX100 and a Toshiba v-9600. Oh yes, an old BBC micro thrown in as well. This doubled the size of my Beta collection, and the price?? 10 pounds for the lot. It really is well worth having a good look round your local dump!
By the way, if your batteries don't seem to be lasting as long as they should, try charging them up and then discharging several times. To discharge, just plug them into the camcorder and leave it switched on. Do this about five times and if there is no change after that, give up!!
This must be one of the best Beta deals I have come accross. Went into a second hand shop in Southend on Sea Essex. There sitting in a pile of ols VHS decks was a SLHF1700. The guy said "it wont play your tapes because its for the French system". I asked how much anyway as I could use it for spares. The guy said Five pounds!!!!. I paid (acting as casual as possible - hiding grin etc). Got the machine home and its a smasher. Even both level metres light up.
60 or so betamax tapes, various lenghts. Programmes recorded on them frrm the mid to late 80's.Anyone interested ?They're going for free.Otherwise they will go in the bin.
Please reply to me at my email address
Regards
David
Given the vagueries of the exchange rate, I figure I paid only the equivelent of 3£,more or less, in 1995 for a video camera in nearly mint shape with all it's parts intact. Among the more interesting things I recorded were two lunar eclipses and the media feeding frenzy around David Kaczinski's , (the brother of the Unabomber) house when Ted Kaczinski was finally arrested. Not haveing a working VCR at the time I also recorded news of the Olympic bombing by sticking the camera in front of the TV set ala kinescope fashion. I've long since lost that tape though.
Need your Beta repaired?

WANTED: KR5 BETA ALIGNMENT TAPE for NTSC UNITS. I'll pay 20 to 40 bucks U.S. Thanks. Will.
Here I share a little experiment I tried, which turned out well :-)
I succesfully replaced bleeding heads on a SL-HF2000 with these from a SL-HF900. I could not connect all of the four heads because the 2000 has only 2. I don't now how the 2000 is supposed to look on SFX playback, now SFX looks awful. But standard rec/play is just what one expect from SuperBeta !
I have an NEC SuperBeta HiFi N65EO, in excellent shape (hardly used, even after all these years), with wireless remote and manual. Prefer NYC area. Interested?
Hello! I have a small problem. My remote for my SL-HF300 and SL-HFR30, the RMT-124, is beginning to develop problems. The power switch for the remote seems to be almost loose and doesn't always stay in the right position. The fast foward button is really worn down, and you really have to push down before it even begins to work. It will also just stop working sometimes, even if the power switch is on. Is this a common problem with this remote? Can it be repaired? Should I try to buy a new one? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi - I am looking for any old hockey footage out there that has been taped on Beta - Looking for all years - I am a big collector and have a large collection of hockey games. I will pay $$$ for your collection or just let me know what you have on Beta. I can trade or buy.. I would hate to see these tapes lost or thrown out as you know Beta is becoming obsolete.. Please contact me at - <[email protected]>
Hi, I got one of my questions answered. As I figured that TV and VCR all in one unit that I described in my previous post is very old. Maybe after I get back from vacation I'll hit some of the thrift stores, but I'm in a real small town, and who knows what they'd have in terms of betamax, talk about getting looked at funny when you mention it! I'm wondering if I were to purchase a used betamax machine if I find one, what would be my best bet, if I had a few different choices. I'm only 23 years old, so I was quite young in beta's heyday. I was thinking what would be the best unit that I could get that would include a video camera? Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a Beta cleanig tape and blank Beta Tapes. I Have a Sony Beta-max and Sanyo-beta. Also looking for cheap Betas for sale in the Los Angeles area.
Hi. I am not a Beta techie, but had this problem recently, that I desperately need to find a solution for. I need to capture the video out from a Beta Camcorder to my PC (via a video grabber card). However, the Betacam only has a BNC connector, and my video grabber only accepts RCA or SVideo input. When I tried to use a BNC to RCA adapter followed by an RCA - RCA cable to connect the Betacam with the video grabber, I got a poor video signal. The image lost its sharpness, the colours became too bright, and the whole image would slowly sail to the right before jerking back into place, the same would happen in the vertical direction too. I tried several pieces of BNC to RCA adapters, but got the same results. Both pieces of equipment are working fine individually because the Betacam runs fine with a Sony Monitor with BNC input, and my video grabber works perfectly with a VHS VCR/Camcorder. What is the issue here ?Any help to improve my capture quality will be appreciated.
I got a SL-C7ub fully working and in excellent condition for 2pounds now can Daslmperator beat that?! Even better I got a Toshiba V8600b and a Sanyo VTC 5000 for free, ABSOLUTELY FREE!!! Please note they are working very well!
Yes, but are they camcorders?
If we're going to play the game of "beat that price" I've got five working VHS VCRs that I'd found "released in the wild" on various rubbish nights (not to mention the half dozen or more that I've found and sold or given away) that only needed a cleaning and in one case a new idler tire. One I gave to my grandmother because one of her other children "reappropriated" hers. One is in my video system. One is on "parts reserve" for my grandmother's new VCR. One a HiFi unit is waiting for a proper remote so that I can patch it into my system. The last one is going to my grandmother's when she gets back from wintering in Florida as it's in better shape than the one I gave her this last summer.
I know that they are only VHS machines but almost nobody seems to have beta machines 'round here. And hey, they didn't cost nuthin'! Unless someone actually paid you to take a VCR off yer hands, you can't beat that.
I have also got a Akai VHS video recorder with remote control and instructions manual, on screen menu and also has Dolby Surround system given to me by a friend in fully working order beat that!!I hardly ever use it anyway as VHS are crap!I do look in the skip at times but not when it was raining...!At one time I got 2 steam irons, 2 record players, 1 phonograph 1 Car phone and a electric typewriter. All working in the skip and I sold them for more betas!Oh yes there are some great stuff in the skip!
BEAT WHAT? Who the hell cares about VHS I thought this was a beta site. Now does anyone out there have a sony KR5 alignment tape? Also am interested if obtaining a toshiba beta VS-44 any condition preferably wasted as I need one for parts. Thanks.
Hi Guys,
I have an old Betamax VCR living in the attic but it has no sound. Any idea if this is an easy fix or anything? The picture works fine.
If not does anyone know how I can get hold of a new one?
Lindsay
What Model is it?Maybe the Audio control head needs a clean or needs replacing?Try getting a Betamax head cleaner or try cleaning it with alcohol on a cotton bud stick. It should work?
Re: Betacam connection problem
Sounds like signal interference from unshielded cabling. You may also have too many connections as well.
You'll probably need to build a shielded cable using standard Cable-TV grade cable with an RCA plug at one end and a BNC plug at the other. Or try using a standard SHIELDED BNC cable and put a Radio Shack #278-253 BNC to phono plug adapter.
Hey Dasimperator,Have any Idea where can I get some batteries for my Sl-f1ub as I want to do some filming with my HVC-2000P Video cameraAccording to the instructions it can only works for 1 hour is this right?is there a chance to make it last longer?
Ta for your time :-)

My apologies for the fellow Aussie who rubbished DVD. I've had a Sony DVD player since they first came out and I find it thrilling to watch, best thing since my Sony SLC-9E which sadly doesn't play any more but I'm going to make enquiries about getting it fixed as I have so many original tapes Icant watch now.
BetaMax forever!!!
The remote for my SLHF-1000 was showing signs of wear--having to press certain keys harder. I finally bought a universal remote from Walmart for &9 and programmed it to do the common functions. My 1000 remote is now "retired" except when I need special functions.
warning!today i bought 3 beta tapes. 2 750 HG's from Sony, 16,95 DM a tape.one from "magna". 5 DM a tape. i wanted to use it in my hf 100 butas i inserted it there was a cruel sound (krrrrr!) an i couldn'ttake the tape out of the recorder. i opened it and i was lucky!i could remove the tape. it was broken. i tried the sony tapes(which can be bought new, where i live) and it worked.so don't buy a tape named "MAGNA CHHROME DIOXID"! i'm happy thatmy hf100 isn't damaged!
Desperatly seeking BETA. Had two Sony hi fi betas. Wore them both out and I'am missing them desperatly. Is there one out there that needs a good home? Lets talk. I hate VHS. Please help..
For the guy looking for Beta alignment tape a place called Fox Video out of Stamford, Connecticut. http://www.foxvid.com/foxvid sometimes gets lots of betamax stuff including alignment tape. I have an old listing showing one for $ 30 US
Sony SuperBeta SL-HF 2000 for sale - excellent condition - only one year old - Sony rewinder/eraser in poor condition also 70plus beta tapes - serious inquiries only! SL-HF 2000 has original box, manual, and misc. papers - ntsc standard - would perfer to sell in the US via cod/ups
Dolby stereo isn't dead it's just not that big a selling point. TV stations would rather advertise Close Captioning, HDTV simulcasting, te related web link or some other feature. It's like in the late '80s when radio stations advertised themselves as a "CD only" station till everyone switched over to CDs and it was pointless to advertise the fact. When was the last time you saw a station trumpeting that it was "broadcast in living color" like it was a big deal.As for Dolby itself, Dolby Labs owns the name (they even sued the singer Thomas Dolby back in the '80s) and charges for the use of it. It may just be cheaper to not mention it's use. I actually have an old Magnavox HiFi VCR (VHS) that has a Dolby NR switch and mid '80s high end GE VCRs and the one Marantz Beta VCR had Dolby NR on it.
I have a Philips 1982 stereo teletext tv (model no. 22 CS 3850/25T) It turns out there is no stereo sound? It has to speakers fixed to the tv. Is it malfunctioning or it only works on stereo vcrs??
LOOKING for a sony betamax SL-2700 or SL-2700B, mine just died, everything must work on it, Please E-mail me if you have one.
Not knowing the history of British stereo broadcasting, I'd have to venture that it's designed to be used with a stereo VCR and not necessarily for stereo telecasts. In the US, Sony came out with HiFi Beta machines in 1983 a couple of years before our FCC adopted standards for stereo broadcasting, which meant the first few Betas HiFi's didn't have stereo tuners. Since Sony expected that most people by then were renting HiFi stereo movies they must've figured that wouldn't be too big an issue. I think that only 1986 or later Beta (or VHS for that matter) VCRs had true MTS Stereo tuners.

Now I am really mad!!!! I promised to stop rubbishing DVD on this site and have stayed away from this site for about 2 weeks and hoped that this whole dvd debate had finished but one "person" from my own country payes me out when everyone else just let this whole argument die as I did when I apologised to Steve so no more or i'll get nasty again even if you are from my country okey James?
Is Dolby Stereo dead don't they broadcast it anylonger? How the heck do you take the tape lid of the SL-F1ub off??!!

Hello,I have a problem with my portable sony pal recorder model :SL-F1 audio output is fine - but no picture. Can someone help me with this-or know of a service center in the New York area?
Thank You
Rugert
Hey All,
I purchased a lot of beta tapes & holders just recently and received it yesterday. One of the tapes was a VERY old Sony L-830. It is interesting because it has a bunch of TV movies that were recorded off a CBS station including the commercials. And from these, I was able to determine that this tape was made around December of 1981 -- 19 years ago! I had ads for things like Atari (!!!) and the "new" 1982 model cars (um...AMC!). Yet this tape still played very well in my HF900 -- nothing tracking wouldn't fix! Now would I have this luck w/ a 19-year-old VHS tape? I wouldn't hold my breath!

hi
(Follow-Up)
DasImperator:
Regarding the Dolby NR on VCR's: I'm wondering if that's just the same Dolby "B" like on cassette decks but for the linear track(s) on the VHS. I have an old Mitsubishi hifi deck from 1985 w/ "Dolby System" on it. Still works but the hifi on it is messed up.
To the guy in New York trying to olay his SL-F1 Pal machine. I can only assume that you're trying to play the thing on a PAL TV set because if you're playing it through an NTSC TV set you won't get a picture or you'll just get a black and white picture at best.
Since you never mentioned whether you're playing it direct from the VCR's RF out port or through the Tuner module I wouldn't know where to begin troubleshooting.
I once was able to fix a VCR that gave good output through the RCA jacks but sounded staticy through the RF jack by adjusting one of the little ceramic thingies in the RF block. It had somehow left the factory that way. (VHS machines, can't live with 'em, can't burn 'em without a permit)
To madness's Dolby question. The Dolby used on VCR's is from the same company that licenses dolby to tape deck makers. It's probably been optimized for the needs of VCR transport (the tape doesn't go by the audio head as fast as it does in a tape deck) but it should more or less be the same thing.
Don't forget to check out my exciting new chat group exclusively for the portable Betamax enthusiast. It's at http://www.egroups.com/group/ThePortableBetamaxSocialClub
Well the election results are finally in from Florida. After gatering up all those "dangling chads",it turns out that Betamax is the most popular video format after all. Panasonic and JVC have given their concession speeches. Samsung and Goldstar are waiting for the electoral college to meet......
Long way to go for a lame joke.....
LOOKING for a Sony SL-2700 or 2700B betamax, If you have one that works please e-mail me mine just died.
CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME. I AM AN AVID VIDEO COLLECTOR OF ALL FORMATS VHS BETA,V2000, NTSC,SECAM THE LOT. MY HI FI BETA MACHINE STARTED CHEWING UP TAPES AND A GREEN LINE APPEAREDON THE SCREEN , I GAVE IT SOMEONE TO FIX ALMOST A YEAR AGO AND THE PRATS NOT GOT BACK, I WILL BE GETTING THE MACHINE BACK SOON BUT NEED TO GET ANOTHER GOOD WORKING pal BETAMAX MACHINE CAN ANYONE HELP ME. I RECENTLY BOUGHT 30 MIXED pal MACHINES MOST HAD FAULTS BUT NOT ONE WAS PERFECT ALL HAD SOMETHING WRONG.I HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME.CHEERS GUYS.
DasImperator:
I thought it was kinda funny. But I suppose in a perfect world, they'd have already picked the president and my local Blockbuster would full of Beta rentals! Well I can dream.... ¶¦¬]
Gee, thirty Beta machine and not one good one. You either have my kind of luck or your standards are too high. (What?!? You want a VCR that works?!?)
Some quick fixxit tips;
Rubber, especially on the idler tires, is the first thing to go on most old VCRs and the easiest to replace. If you can't replace it right away and it isn't all crackled up you can weasel a few years of service by either flipping it around or going over it with fine grain sandpaper or an emery board.
Adjusting the tape path can give new life to your out of track tapes. The most rewarding adjustment point is the one that raises or lowers the audio/control track block (the big silvery chiclety thing along the tape path). You'll need to get an average of several tapes at all speeds to get it right or at least to your liking.
A good cleaning can do a world of good. I mean a REAL Martha Stewart, Gene the Anal Retentive Chef quality cleaning with a canned air gun and lots of isopropyl alchohol. Be advisded that roaches like the warm moist surroundings of a VCR's innards.
Old PC boards can crack with age so you'll want to fire up the trusty soldering iron and start melting stuff. (soldered joints I mean) I've found the tuner module to be especially fragile. Watch for places where the tin circuits have pulled up (it happens)
Disconnect the ejector mechanism and manually cycle it through. If it's dislocated you may be able to reset it
Fuses blow - 'nuff said
When all else fails, stuff the thing with M-80s and have a blast (VHS VCRs only)
Hey what happened to the chat page? Did someone screw around with the font?
Hello - I am looking for any Beta tapes you have which have sporting events on them - Hockey - Baseball - Football. Please contact me: <[email protected]> Thanks - DAN
Hi there, just wondering if anyone knows what the CH designations is for? being UB is UK, AS is Australia etc. China? Check repulic? Ive heard its for units which have been modified from one tuner standard to another? Just wondering?
DasImpersonator, do you have a home to go to ;) there is life beyond the PAL beta chat page ;)
Also a few beta hifi's for sale in SA and VIC AUSTRALIA, have to clear out part of my collection, getting into BVU's.
Hi,I am looking to transfer my Beta tapes onto a CDRom or a VHS tape. Could anyone suggest a company that does this or would it be more economical for me to buy a Beta player and do the work myself? I am not very familiar with Beta.
To Jennifer;
If you only have a couple of tapes you'd be money ahead by looking up a tape duplication service in your local Yellow Pages. They'll charge about 15 to 20 bucks a tape. If you're trying to transfer a large collection, you'd be better off looking for a Beata machine on E-bay or buying one locally out of the classifieds. Be advised that you'll lose some of the picture quality with each "generation" of transferance. Since Beta machines operated virtually the same as VHS machines you should have little trouble with using them. Best of luck.
To the rest of you guys. I've been trying to help you folks out with your problems now maybe someone can help me with a little problem of mine. I just got the SL-5000 I'd bought off of E-bay today and had spent the afternoon getting it in shape (the rubber needed sanding, the capstan controls needed adjusting etc) and I was almost done when I'd found that one of the bulbs on the presetter had burnt out. Well I swapped some bulbs around and was putting it back together when some stray voltage (I'd unplugged the thing before working on it) burnt outr the tuner board module. I can still play (and see) a tape thruogh both RF and RCA jacks. and the RCA in-jack still inputs but now I cant tune any stations and the channel indicators have all gone black. Does anybody have a spare SL-5000 tuner board/module that they're willing to sell or get rid of for postage? I just got this working perfectly and it'd be a shame to never be able to use it now.

Hi,Wow, I never knew they had Duran Duran in the states!!!!!
Oh by the way peoples, are there still any Betamax machines (new) that are easily obtainable in the UK??
Has anyone got or can get hold of a sanyo MC-40 machine. My uncle wants this machine so i thought i would try on the net for him. Any information would be appriciated.
I'm sorry to say that Sony no longer makes Beta machines for the PAL market. The last Beta model designed for the States origionally came out in 1993 (it's still in limited production). Sony still makes a few Betas for their home market in Japan.Maybe if we got the Enola Gay to buzz the Sony headquarters a few times they might be "pursuaded" to release a new multi-system SuperBeta HiFi machine with some decent features. Are the Kray brothers still around?
HiI need a remote for an American model betamax sl hf - 300Any help would be appreciated

Wanted:Good NP-11 battery for Sony beta camcorder. I have been using this camcorder with the charger unit since the battery I have only lasts for about 5 minutes, then dies. I would like to be able to use it as a portable camcorder so I can take pictures of some of the mountains and scenery around me and make a web page with the pictures. Please help or let me know if you know where I could purchase an NP-11 battery.
I wonder what the chances are of Sony manufacturing a new Beta machine. With the coming of DVD I can see no point in owning a VHS VCR as the amount of films available of DVD is now huge. Even my friends (anti beta)now realise the benefits of the superior format. The old excuse of rentals etc is now futile.
If have a converted Betamax recorder at home wich CAN playbackBetacam SP tapes, only in mono, but it works, i have had to make my own PCB (for timecode stuff and decoupling of signals), but the damn thing works, for a PCB layout just mail ....
