I have been given the remote control receiver for the SLC6. This is so the C6 can use infa red remote. The unit is called a C6K (kit I assume). However I do not have the hanset for this gadget. All my beta remotes do not work it ( C7 remote C30 etc) but the pause function of my F1 remote does activate pause. Does anyone know anything about this?

Hello Everyone. I was very unfortunate in loasing two Betamax machines to theft about 8 years ago. One was an SLHF-1000, and the other a SLHF-2710B (black color). I would love to replace these machines with identical model numbers, or as close as possible. As my search over the years has been unsuccessful, I do have the original remote for the SLHF-1000 and the SLHF-2710b, as well as original complete service manuals for both machines. Hopefully I get a reply. Bye for now!

I work on a tech programme on a satellite/internet broadcaster (now.com). I am thinking of taking a look at 3 superior technologies that have been edged out of the mainstream market by inferior products- Macintosh vs. Microsoft, Dvorak vs.QWERTY and, of course, Beta-Max vs VHS.Are any of you in/out there London-based, with a Beta-Max machine, the background knowledge and an interest in coming into the studio (or having us come 'round)to 'big up' Beta and 'dis' VHS?Thanks.

Hi All, I have an old SL-C7UB betamax, and it only just works. Could you possibly help me. The problem is when tapes are playing back. The sound is not continuous, so I have to 'jitter' it by quickly pressing backward every 10 secs or so. Also, the colour is not always shown, and the playback is stopped by the machine itself. It just makes the tape stop. The more you play it, the more often it stops playing back. I think it may be the heads, but I have never been able to find anyone to clean it. I live near Birmingham, UK. Thankyou in advance.

Sony SL-HF300 BetaHiFi Betamax FOR SALE (NTSC - USA/Canada)

c/wRemote control (nice shape)and manual (ok, but some child has crayoned the cover)

The machine is black in color. Cosmetically it has light scuffing caused by other stereo equipment being moved across it's top. The front panel is in good shape, but is missing the flip down panel that usually covers controls on the bottom right.

The machine had been in storage for quite a few years (original owner) and required a good cleaning inside and out.

I had to replace the video drum motor, as well as the capstan pinch roller assembly in order to get the unit to operate to my satisfaction.

I recorded four tapes (2xBII, 2xBIII), and watched four other tapes that were made on different machines, before deciding the unit is A1.

I'm asking $185.00 US, including shipping within the 48 states.

Payment must be received before shipment, money order ONLY (bank or postal).

Any questions, or if you wish to make an offer, please drop me an email.

Dear Madness; Sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier but I have been ill. I don't have any easy solution to your problem unless your video out jack is seperate from your audio out jack (in which case there are a couple of relatively simple things you can try). If you have 1 output for both video and audio (I don't mean the RF/cable line output)then it will probably be close to unmanagable to locate the problem because you would need some sophisticated equipment (like a signal tracer -for example) plus prefferably the schematic for your machine in order to locate the problem. O.K now that I've told you this here is what I would do if I had alot of time in order of the easiest to the most timeconsuming and boring- 1.) often times the hole where you plug in your jack becomes corroded, so try taking a jack and pushing it into the plug about 8-10 times this may remove the corrosion. 2.) If this fails remove the top cover of the VCR and view the connection point fron the circuit board to the jack. If there are any loose wires resolder them, likewise if you see any cracks in the circuit tracings in the area of the jack. 3.) If no response yet try replacing the tuner. 4.) Finally if you have a couple hours to spend and nothing else has worked, try visually tracing all of circuits leading away from the jack looking for breaks or cracks in the solder(and/or a discoloration of any soldering point) and/or a I.C. thats loose in its socket. Its a long shot at best. I'm sorry I can't be of more help but like I said you really need some sophisticated equipment to do the job right.

Best Wishes ; Al Smith

Betamax for-ever: Since Beta is no longer made for the commercial market, why don't Sony do what Volkswagen did!!! By re-introducing the Beta at one of the major electronic shows to see what is the re-action. Let's face it, according to this messages on this and other Beta pages, there is still an enormous loyal Beta followers out there. So come on Sony, if the new Beetle is such a success, why cannot the same be done for Beta!!!

Sony SL-HF100 tuner drift/stereo reception & setting up AFT

While the reception in my area is OK, I have had trouble getting the VCR tuner's audio to remain in stereo(2 leds ON). I once had the machine serviced (that's another story) and this was eventually was fixed for a while but has gradually got worse again. Not wanting to fork out another $150 to a shonky repairman I dived in (sans service manual)and starting tweaking the little ferrite grub screws on the 6 trimpots in the shielded AFT board. After managing to ruin the reception totally, hours of tweaking later I finally got a reasonable picture back, but still the audio is unstable. Can someone please advise how to set up the AFT properly, and why the stereo drops in and out. Thanks and regards,David Cafe

I read the stuff above about putting a vhs tape in a beta shell, and although that does not work, I was wondering if it would be effective to put a vhs tape head cleaner into a beta tape shell?

I was copying a tape with my beta machine (Sanyo VTC 5150 ) when the picture from the beta suddenly broke up and I haven't been able to play a tape since! Will head cleaning sort this out or is it a more serious fault? Please help me! I'm desperate!!

For sale: Sony SL-HF100UB.

Due to timewasters not getting back to me, I have a Sony HF100 machine for sale with all bits intact but a few segments out on the level meters. If you're truely intersted in buying this machine, then call me 07976 418 169. I don't check this site or e-mail to often, but if you think calling a mobile phone is too expensive, then don't bother replying.

Also, I have a Technicolor CVC portable - this is a wierd machine which takes almost audio cassette style tapes, and can record from a camera for 1 hour. It's a portable, as new with power pack, one tape, new battery, earpiece, all leads, but no camera. It looks like it's only bean used once or twice, and was made in 1981! There's a picture and more details on one of the links of this site - total rewind I think. Anyway - cost is 60 quid. And it does work...

Next, a Sony C7 cassette changer, brand new and boxed - so havent got a clue if it's OK or not, but every thing is there in bags and the booklet, so assume so. Price - 15 quid.

Finally, Sony VDP100 video printer - I know it's not betamax, but this is just as much an 'old sony and sanyo stuff' site, so it might be of interest to someone. Basically, hook up a composite vide signal. Hit the print key, and outcomes a monochrome image. Not great resolution at all, mainly suited to teletext type screen capture. It's only a tenner, so come on, you know you want to add it to your collection......

Please call on 07976 418 169, or you might be waiting for a week for a reply.

Thanks.

March 04,2001 3:43 P.M.

To Robin; Cheap head cleaning cassettes can ruin your machine for a number of reasons. I don't recommend putting a VHS cassette cleaning tape if only for this reason(there are others) Video Heads are very fragile and the less pressure and/or tension you put on them the better your chances are of not breaking off the head! For this reasonI recommend a dry head cleaner designed specifically for BETA (for example a Sony ?cl-125(I think thats the code number) or there are other brands) versus a wet head cleaner. This is what I would tell a rookie! I understand that a Beta Dry cassette head cleaner is now hard to come by, but you still see them occasionally advertised on EBAY! IF you do buy one make sure its' never been used. Alternatively- the best way for someone with a little experience to clean a Video head is to buy some liquid video head cleaning fluid and some foam swabs, open up the machine to expose the Video Head(s) dip a swab into the fluid and very, very gently &lightly stroke the video head with the swab several times from side to side. you can also place the wet swab tip just over (but not touching )the head and squeeze out a few drops of fluid onto the head. While you're at it you might as well clean the tape path as well! As too why you've lost your picture I would need to know what is currently happening when you load a tape and press the play button (if it still functions to that level).

Best Regards ;Allan A. Smith

I have a Sony SL-HF 300 Hi-Fi Beta machine. It is black in color, and it is in very good shape, except for one little door is missing on the machine. It comes with a remote control, but not the original. Also, have the service manual for the machine. It also comes with about 135 original beta movie tapes, Beta Tape Rewinder, and Head Cleaner. It is USA compliant. I do have the original box. Most of the tapes are Horror/Sci-Fi Genre, and will be sold AS IS. I am asking $325.00, including shipping and handling.

I dont have a Betamax, but I may buy one if I can find out what they can do exactly. So, I have a few questions and I and this looks like a good place to ask them. 1. Will a betamax play a tape backwards? and can it play the audio on the tape backwards? 2. Are betamax machines available new, are they still being manufactured? 3. can I watch regular rental movies on it like a vcr? And finaly.4. Do I have to use betamax tapes to record with it, or can I use regular blank tapes? thank you

Hey guys, I just acquired a Sony GCS-50 deck from a video production house that was unloading it for cheap. It works perfectly, but I can't get a remote to work with it! I don't even see a remote sensor on the front of it. But it does have this funny-looking plug on the back, with a ton of holes, marked "remote." So does it require some kind of wired remote?

TO: Allan A. Smith

Regarding the 550: 1st of all, that machine is quite a chore to get apart to even access the circuit board w/ the video out circuits! I had to remove the top cover, bottom cover, faceplate and rear panel. There are *3* boards arranged in a 3-stack (like a 3-floored building). But I got the middle board (w/ A/V I/O jacks) and can't see any cracked traces or bad solder joints. I'd love to just find a junk or partially cannibalized 550 and do some board swaps. If anyone has one, I'll buy the 3 boards.

To David FYou need to set the Beta to "line in". This is usually betweenchannel 68 and channel 2. Then make the L,R audio and Videoconnnections on the VCRs-- VHS outputs to Beta inputs.David Hadaway

Hello fellow Betamax Fans. I have 2 used Beta VCRS that don't work. The first is my first Beta, a SLHF400 I have had it since brand new, the loading mechanism is messed up, and have been unable to fix it. I fould a SLHF300 at a garage sale, and attempted to install the loading mechanism from it into the other. It worked for a week or so, then started acting up like before.I have since put both of them in the closet and purchased a SLHF860D, and I am in Beta Heaven!!if anyone would like to purchase the two non working beta vcrs for parts, email me and let me know.I don't want much for them, and would like to see someone get some use out of them!

To Madness:

I'm gonna ask a really, really dumb question. When you hooked your Betato the TV via the video out rather than the RF, did you flip the setting onthe TV to INPUT mode? If it remained in RF (Antenna or Cable) mode, thereis NO WAY the vid out will do anything. Most TVs have this settingavailable either directly on the remote or in a menu. Have you establishedthat you can see anything put into the Vid input on the TV from another,known-to-be-working source? The reason I ask this is that you never saidthat you did that.Good luck!

To: Rob Turner Re: Beta Rewinders in the US

Rob, Last year I found two on eBay. They were new, not NOS either.Somebody is making them. I don't remember if they are available in50hz 220v, but they are in 60hz 110v here. Great thing about rewinders:they don't care if they are PAL or not! I just looked at mine. Thebrand is KINYO and there is a 110/220 switch on the bottom. Good luck!

Hi all, usual problem with a C7 I own. The timer has started to behave strange. I come in the other day and the clock was counting 1-24 on its own. I know this is a normal problem on these machines. Does anyone have a timer in an old scrapper they don't want if so e mail me.Cheers

Dear Madness; Congratulations on a noble effort now you have some idea why repair shops charge so much! Try hooking another machine up to the TV (Vintage Tar has a point!) Otherwise don't throw your boards away put everything back together and then If you still want to pursue repairing the unit I have 2 suggestions 1st find yourself a good tech who has the equipment and let him do the diagnostic (in the U.S. the fee for this usually runs between $25.00 and $40.00 and can be applied to the cost of repair if you so desire). Secondly if you are strapped for cash and still have lots of energy call around to the vcr repair shops- most keep a library record of schematics for the machines that they have repaired and ask the boss if you can purchase a xerox of the schematic for your model the chances are good that if you can locate the schematic that because its an old Beta that the owner will do you the favor. Yhis is normally a favor that is normally refused. If you can get the schematic you can probably trace the Video Out circuts but does not eliminate the problem of needing some sophisticated test equipment. If you get this far let me know and I'll have some more things for you to try. Again KUDOS for your effort!!

To Stewart; I havn't forgotten you I've just been busy. I'll contact you within the next 2-3 days but I don't think I can be of much help as the problem may be caused by many different things.

My Best Wishes to you both; Allan A. Smith

I have several Cubs highlight tapes (and some games) and about 75 othertapes that I would love to see (from '78 to '86). If you have a workingBeta HiFi for sale please email. Thank you. (By the way, for a short timeI co-managed the first "Video" store in a large city-back in 1978, and wewould only play cartoons on VHS recorders for demos of said machines(JVC and the dreaded RCA products) as we saw that only animation looked decent on the slugs.
