ok. No takers on repairing my C9 dc dc converters. Any tips on how to get the bloody things open without melting everything inside?
above email address
Alan (And Vintage Tar): Sorry, I didn't mention that I had set the input on the TV, I just thought that was obvious since I mentioned that I was only getting audio and a black screen when using the A/V's. I connected one of my other beta decks to the same set of cables and it works fine (to rule out a bad cable). I also ran the 550 to my PC which has a v-in/capture card to see if I could get a signal on there; still no go.
I was also checking eBay today and noticed that some dude had put up a whole bunch of service manuals (HF350, 860D, SL700, HF1000, etc), but alas, none for the HF550. If I could get one of those, I might be able to either mess around abit myself or bring the deck and the manual to some good repairman (if I can find a good one in the Boston area). But lack of the necessary test equipment might make the former option fruitless.
Follow-Up: I forgot to mention that the A/V *inputs* are all functional. I connected a DVD player up to it an made a Superbeta copy just last night. No problems there. So the dead video out jack is really the problem as far as I know.
Just got this sweet Sanyo 4670 4-head that gives perfect slo-mo and still frame (I could read an article by Tooey Elsworth - in "The Fountainhead" expounding his new favorite architect Peter Keating).
As a preventative maintainance measure, I decided to replace the wear prone two-tired idler/reel drive system with a more reliable gear and tire assembly from my Sanyo 4400 (which got the 4760's idler/reel drive system in return). (You not only have to replace the idler and reel hubs but you have to replace the brake plate assembly as well or it won't work right) I also stuck in a tuner can from a defunct Sanyo 7200 so that I could get the Discovery Channel.(Channel 37)
Unlike Sony, Sanyo makes it fairly easy to make major system rebuilds and cross-transplants. Sony though keeps the tape threaded on the reel and gives you two extra channel preset.
Just one fly in the ointment, however. If there's a minor glitch in the control track of a BIII recording the VCR reads that as command to switch to BII for the length of the glitch creating a "slippage" effect. My Sony doesn't do that, My Sanyo 4400 doesn't do that but a Sanyo 6300 I used to have did that so I'm thinking it's a VCR system ROM problem (Sanyo might've changed the firmware or something) and more or less unfixable. I also suspect it might (hopefully) be a worn pinch roller or an adjustable pot setting. At any rate it's only on some of my very bad tapes and I know where those are so unless one of you comes up with a workable fix I'm done tinkering with it.
Has anybody else experienced this minor but pesky glitch? Any ideas?
To Kendrick, the problem with the audio dub could be a slack microswitch, on the pcb behind the front panel. Remove the panel, locate the microswitch for audio dub, (should be printed on pcb)gently press the switch. If operating propperly You should feel a slight resistance when pressing the switch, like You have to overcome a mechanical threshold. There should also be an audible tiny click. When there is no resistance, no click, either unsolder the switch, no problem when You don't dub, or replace the switch. We quite often had this kind of problem with the c5 and c7. There should be no problem to round up this kind of microswitch. You could even rescue on from an "outmustered" modern VHS VCR.( it is easy to kill a VHS for a transplant for a BETAMAX. Only, make shure the length of the plastic knob on the switch has the same length as the original. Too long, permanent audio dubbing, to short, permanent NO audio dubbingGood luckcb, the owl
Sony C40 (works sometimes, but sulks sometimes - something is sticking) plus 100 or so home recorded tapes of classic films (Marx Bros, Will Hay etc). Small offers accepted from a loving home - buyer collects from Dorset coast.
DOES ANY ONE HAVE A BATA CAM CORDER THAT THEY DON,T NEED AND , HAVE BETA TAPES THEY DON,T WANT? I AM A DISABLED MAN WHO COULD SURELY USE THEM. WRITE TO KEN KNAUFF 395 MILLBORO SPRINGS DRIVE BATAVIA OHIO 45103
Hallo. I'm looking for italian people with betamax machinesGrazie
To You Know Who...
I experienced similar problems on a Sony SLHFR70 and on a SLHF1000. In both cases, the problem was related to a worn ACE. The thing would still read the control track but output a weak signal to servo circuits. The most minor glitch in the track would disrupt the signal from the ACE completely.
Compensating a mechanical weakness with an electronic adjustment (i.e. potentiometer) is never a good idea.
FUNNY STORY...
Hi, I've got a funny story to tell. Well, not that funny for me. On a recentbitterly cold winter's night, while burning the midnight oil on writing amagazine piece for a deadline the next day, I had the electric fan heater onfull blast, fatally near my mum's much-loved old Betamax video machine I'dborrowed. I didn't notice it slowly melting away into something which moreresembled a modern art sculpture than a VCR. It's an interesting andoriginal way to break something, I guess. My mum can no longer play all herfavourite old tapes and I feel like such a git. Please does anyone out therehave a Beta video that they're willing to sell to me? I know they're worthpeanuts now, but I'll pay up to £ 30 - I'm in Hull, East Yorks., UK. I'd be eternallygrateful, and of course will pay for transport of the video machine. Tillthen, I'm off to melt another treasured appliance.
Hello. My neighbor has a collection of over 200 beta tapes from the early 70's in various subjects including Judy Garland concerts, Dean martin and other topics including religious sermons and lectures. Anyone interested? I am about to go help her catalog her library. will get more specific later, but wanted to start getting this out. Anyone looking for a library or specific topic? Susan
Newcomer! I have just bought my first Beta VCR, Sony SL-F60. .. What could you tell me about this machine? Where's the best place to be serviced in Spain? Greetings
¡Recién llegado! Acabo de comprar mi primer VCR Beta, un Sony SL-F60. .. ¿Qué podéis contarme sobre este aparato? ¿Dónde está el mejor servicio técnio en España? Saludos
I've got several old beta tapes and I can't play them. I'm looking for a cheap betamax so I can convert them to VHS. If you've got a machine that works and are willing to part with it at a reasonable price, email me.
To Madness:You've gone beyond me now. I figured you needed to take the logical pathand rule out problems not in VCR. So many people miss the obviousstuff. As a teen I fixed sewing machines and my boss made on ton of moneyon ladies who after 27 years with a machine, put a needle in backwards (which makes it do awful things). Theystill got their machine cleaned, oiled and lubed, and all the tensionsoptimized, which is always good, so they weren't cheated. But the obvious....
Hi there beta fans! I have been looking ,for some time now, for a SANYO VTC M40 Beta hi-fi vcr (PAL UK spec),but to no avail. I know that Sanyo must have sold a decent amount of these due to their low price e.g £299 ,when they phased out BETA in favour for VHS,way back in 1986! As i have quite a lot of recordings with beta hi-fi on them ,and i prefer Sanyo's BETACORD (or tape un-lacing during FF&REW),if anyone out there has one in good condition ,or servicable, i would be willing to pay a good price for it and postage e.t.c expenses. Please if you can help me i would be eternally grateful....many thanks ...Kevin
Hi Folks,
I'm looking for a "reel to reel" video player. I just received 60 reels of video tape & need something to watch them with. Can anyone help?
Nick.(Australia)
QUESTION; THE SONY GCS-50 VCR USES BNC CONNECTORS FOR VIDEO IN AND OUT. I WANT TO RECORD FROM A CABLE BOX WHICH USES RCA CONNECTORS. HOW DO I GO FROM RCA CONNECTOR TO BNC CONNECTOR OR VICE VERSA? ARE THERE WIRES AVAILABLE THAT HAVE BNC CONNECTORS ON ONE END AND RCA CONNECTORS ON THE OTHER END? OR IS THERE A COUPLER RCA-BNC CONNECTOR? ANY INFO WOULD BE APPECIATED. THANK YOU.

Hi Folks,I'm looking for a "reel to reel" video player. I just received 60 reels of video tape & need something to watch them with. Can anyone help?Nick. (Australia)
I saw a at least three reel to reel units that somehow got listed with Beta items on E-bay.... ButI think they're NTSC units only....
I have successfully copied quite a number of rental DVD's onto beta (kinda funny to have a bunch of *new* movies on beta!). But I was curious about something: Most DVD's offer you the option to select the soundtrack; usually Dolby 2.0 or Dolby Digital 5.1. I usually set it to Dolby 2.0 when duping the disc. So, therefore, did I make a bunch of beta tapes that are Dolby Surround or Pro Logic compatable? I am using my Sony SLHF870D superbeta hifi deck to do the recording. Playing the tapes back theu my home theatre, they sound like they're using surround, but I'm not 100% sure. Was just looking for any insight on this.
looking for information how to decode NTSC ro PAL format ?? What's the easiest way to do ? Please help ...
HELP PLEASE!i have an excellent SLHF 400 (1985)I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TUNE IN MY CABLE CHANNELS.THANKSGEORGE
My Betamax went south a number ofyear ago. I have some Betamax videos I would like to play. I seem to remember that was some type of gadget you could place your Beta video in and then be able to play it in a VHS player.
Does anybody know of this type of gadget?
Thanks
I have available for sale a SONY Betamax SL - C7UB video recorder with remote control, connecting cables and two new L - 750 tapes. The machine is in its original carton and packaging and is in excellent mechanical order. The heads will however, probably need to be replaced
Reasonable offers are invited. Buyer to arrange collection. I am located in Central Scotland.
I am looking for a Sony beta store in the USA, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Yes, it's a gadget that gets mentioned every few days on this website. It's a bit like hen's teeth, rocking horse droppings or hot ice.
It does'nt exist....
Yes, Steve is correct! Even if such a gadget could be constructed, the effort would be in vain. The video heads in a VHS deck are completely incapable of reading a beta tape; nor could the tape be played @ the correct speed. The two formats are as different as apples are to oranges.
If you have a good collection of betas, your best option would prolly be to buy a used beta deck. Assuming that you're somewhere in NTSC land, you could try eBay. Do a search for "betamax" and/or "beta vcr" and you should come up w/ quite a list. There's always plenty of NTSC machines up for bids (if you need a PAL deck, they can be found there, just not as often).
If you go this route, know what you want in a beta deck. There's often bidding wars on the most desirable decks (usually all superbeta and/or hifi and the high-end).
I think this urban legend about a VHS cartridge adapter for a Beta tape probably started when some casual video user saw a VHS cartridge adapter for VHS-C camcorder tape on sale in some store, did not read the label correctly, mistakenly thought it was a VHS-Beta adapter, and went home and excitedly told everyone he knew about this nifty new product, and the legend spread from there. For the uninitiated and uninformed, a VHS/VHS-C adapter does have an imaginary resemblance to a VHS/Beta adapter, if such a product had existed and if the technology had theoretically allowed it. Howard
They also might've also remembered the adapters available that let you play Atari video game cartridges on the Colecovision systems or the adapter that let you play a compact cassette on an 8-track player. If poeple would take the time to examine a VHS and Beta tape they realize the impossibility of making an adapter fit. Even if you spooled a Beta tape onto a VHS reel you couldn't even rewind or fast forward a tape without risking damage to your VHS VCR (no big loss) because of the different end sensor systems. And you won't get a picture anyway - heads are a different size so the tracks are laid at a different angle on the tape......
There is no friggin' BETA -> VHS adapter other than a Beta VCR!
Of course if wouldn't be too difficult to make a universal VCR that can play VHS and Beta tapes. I've already worked out the basics on how it could be done with stacked head drums attached to a worm gear riser and a slider for the take up reels so that they can accomodate the different tapeshells. I think the basic technology has been done in U-matic and Betacam decks that take the large and small U and Beta tapeshells. Any techies out there looking for a project?
My neighbor has a Sanyo VCR3900, and he wanted to know how much he is likely to get for it. He says it has barely been used, so it should be like new. Thanks - Richard
To StewardHi Steward,it is always the same problem with C7 and Sony beta's from the same aera. Even the portable machines develope this generic matter. It is a slack of the microswitched soldered onto the pcb. Nothing wrong withthe timer ! I suggest You dismantle Your C7, count the number of microswitches, round up a near to death VHS- machine and sacrify the VHS to get hold of a hand full of microswitches. ( those are the best things in aVHS anyway)Be very carefull when You unsolder the switches they easily get damaged.Use a unsoldering tool or solder sucking wick ( this thing comes from Switzerland hence the funny name, some wick, my wick)Make shure! the plastic knob in the centre of the switch has the same length than the original one, even if You have to file dowen or to cut the knob or to extend it somehow.I did this job on a SL-C100 about two years ago it's been working perfectly ever since.By the way, Kendrik had the same problem as You have. In my reply in the forum You find some advise how to find out which switch is buggered, but best You replace them all, cause they will die on You one by one anyway. If any questions place them in the forum. I'll check from time to time.Good huntingClaus, the owl

sorry but please take note of correct e-mail address.graham.
Since 1981 I have been playing my favourite beta tape in my vhs machine. So what if it sounds slow and I can't see the picture, it only took me and Bart 3 hours to spool it over.
PS please don't kick me off your site again, I have valuable insites into modern technology.
First of all, everbody, forgive me for not reading these fine pages of the Betamax Chat pages for awhile but I have made the mistake of upgrading to WIN98SE. But now that I'm back and reading again I just thought I would add something for Madness: I have a Service Manual for the Sony Beta BMC 550! O-O-O-OH. Yeah right. Anyway, I didn't go back in the archives to get the whole story on your (Madness) problem but if you need some pages copied I could do that for you for the cost per page and postage. Speaking of the BMC550, I have a problem, actually 2, but we will deal with the main one. I need to apparently replace the lens assembly as there appears to be some fogging or something on one of the inner lenses (2/3 of the recordings I make are fogged). I can see the fogged area when inspecting from the front. Can Madness or anyone tell me what "FUN" I can have to replace this assemby?? I have a spare Sanyo VRC 500 (same thing as the Sony) for cannablizing and the Service manual doesn't really say anything about removing the lens assembly. Any thoughts, theories and such will be appriciated. Later. Pepse.

Can anyone give me a clue as to how i can get hold of an instructionmanual for my JVC HR-D660EK VHS video recorder. I have tried all the usual places Including JVC, Also need a lift up flap for the remote control. I think this is the remote model number :- PQ10779.

I'am looking for video heads for a Toshiba VS36 Beta HI-FI .This is the 4 head unit from 1983.Also looking for the front circuit board on a Model 7200 Sanyo stereo HI-FI.This is the board that contains the tracking knob.I bought a 7200 off of E-bay last year and this board was badly damaged during shipment.Thank You So Much! By the way,I have 9 Sony,2 Toshiba and 3 Sanyo Beta's in my collection and when it comes to ease of working on any of these units I'll take the Sanyo anyday.
Looking for a copy of
The Magus: Anthony Quinn, Michael Cain, Candice Bregan
Only out on Beta format for some reason. Will gladly accept an off air copy version.
Please advise if you can find one.

I am looking for a repairer in Australia My sl-c9 is not working, and if there is one for sale or something simular please contact by E mail.Wilf.
Well I was corrected on the 550 story. Sorry Madness, I should have looked at the archives and seen it is a VCR not a camcorder. Well the story had the commonality of it being difficult to work on like the BMC 500. Charlie, in regards to the front panel for a Sanyo 7200, I've got a 7200 in my storage shed but have to wait a week or two 'til enough snow melts to get the door of the shed open and then to be sure the part you need is still on it. If someone else can send you one in the meantime let me know. Later. Pepse.
Oh and for Phil Whitfield, first you mean the vhs chat page was no help either. Secondly, if JVC doesn't help is customers I'm not sure who else could. You probably won't find just the door you need; chances are you'll have to by a whole remote. But you could try WWW.replacementremotes.com/ and see if he has a remote like what you need or email him and see if he has a junk remote for cheap. Later. Pepse.
help! we recently had a theft of a sony betamovie bmc 110.i am desperately searching for a replacement value for insurancepurposes.
does anyone know of the current value or a substitute camera that may be currently available that i may use for comparrision?
Hi Im eddie
Hello everyone. Im doing a project on the Betamax so if anyone has some info on the history of the machine or some interesting personal history, please let me know. Thanks!
Still looking for the reel motor and mechanisim for my SONY SL-HF 450 I would also like to get that thing operational so I can use it in concert with my sony GCS-50. Speaking of my GCS-50 I would like the scematic of the Lf jack on the back of the unit I know this is simlar to cotrol-s and the newer LANC jacks but I need a pinout to use it for these. I would also like to know how the LANC jack on My Sony digital 8 camcorder works. Any advice on any of the above subjects is appriciated. A. Hi. Someone gave me a Sony BMC-200 Betamovie, but it has problems. The caution light comes on and it records just a black picture, but it records sound fine. Could someone please tell me what the caution light means or give me any help. Thank you!
Hello - I have ran this before. But I am looking for any sports games full or partial on Beta.. Don't throw them away.. top price paid.. Looking for hockey first of all... Dan
Kindly folks, Need Beta player only; new, used, but able to play. Iowa girl
I have an SLF-25 with an odd fault. The tape playback and record is fine (after tweaking forward tension), but all output has a stange sort of "blue velvet curtain" of blue stripes/areas on the left of the picture. It seems to be more pronounced on the composite out than the RF but it's still very noticable - any ideas what components could be causing this odness?
I'm also auctioning my Sl-F1 + SL-TT1 if anyone's interested:

To Stewart; Sorry for not responding earlier, I've been busy selling stuff on ebay. I've got some time now so if you want to discuss jitters email me!
To Harvey; There is an automatic cutoff switch in sanyo betas that stops playback if there is a problem. You can try cleaning the tape path, and replacing any worn belts, idler tires, and/or pinch roller(most electronic wholesalers still keep these parts in stock). Check to see if the cassette is seated in the all the way down in the carriage when loaded. Also you can buy cheap @ a electronics parts shop what is called a infrared detector which looks like a strip of paper- it has been chemically treated to glow in the presence of I.R. light. Get one and hold it next to the I.R. sensor which is a light emitting diode (which detects tape speed) located to the bottom right of the tape path. Turn on the machine and hold the I.R. sensor about 1/4in from the diode if it doesn't glow you may need a new diode. You might want to get a "parts" machine to fix the machine you have now. Other problems may cause the machine to shut down (like a power supply problem!) But try the easy stuff first! Best Wishes and good luck!! Allan A. Smith.
To Allan Smith and other Sanyo-nians here,
I am a user and fan of Sony Betas, I currently own no Sanyos, but would like to pick up a couple of Sanyo units to try them out and complement my Sony Beta collection. One question I have for you Sanyo-nites is, other than the model 7250, did Sanyo make and market any other Super Beta Hi-Fi units here in North America? Also, I have read in the course of my research that the two most popular Sanyo hi-fi units, the models 7200 and 7250, did NOT come with MTS stereo decoder/tuners, and had mono tuners only. Is this correct? Did Sanyo ever produce a Super Beta Hi-Fi unit that also had a MTS stereo decoder/tuner here in North America? I read somewhere that the Sanyo model 7500 (regular Beta Hi-Fi) had an MTS stereo decoder/tuner; did any other North American Sanyo Hi-Fi models come with MTS stereo tuners? Thanks in advance for the Sanyo info. Howard
I have an SLC-30E which has an audio problem.
The audio level from the tuner is to low, which of course effects the recording level. However its an intermitant problem. Pre-recorded tapes play ok. I'd appreciated any suggestions or a circuit of the releavent area.
thank you.

Hi Howard! Here is the best info I can give you without checking a old parts co. calogue to see what models they carried when Sanyo stopped making Betas. Starting with the Model# VCR7200 (And I think there were @ least 4 including a 4 head), all were equipped with Superbeta, but I don't think that any of them had a MTS decoder because that item is usually used with a true Stereo system of which Sanyo made no Betas. Superbeta was a souped up monaural system which sounded o.k. as long as you were not interested in sitting in the front row of a movie theater to watch "star wars" (don't even ask)! Getting back to it I own 5 different models of SANYOs'(not all are functional) includung a VCR7200 and a VCR7250(Superbetas) I like the VCR-7200(only 1 major problem ever-had to replace the reel motor), the 7250 is O.K. but mine has been somewhat fragile & thus has been repaired several times & is currently not working due to audio problems. My recommendation however is not necessairily the VCR7200 (which has a good sound and great picture due to Superbeta) because they are now hard to find and costly, but a nice cheap standard solidly built and sturdy VCR4650(4590 outside the U.S.). If you get a chance to scarf one of these babes up in good shape for anywhere under $100.00 you will never regret it, because with care they will last (not literally) forever producing good sound and picture(although not Superbeta). One of the best things about Sanyo and this machine in particular is that they made many of its parts interchangable with other models so that many repairs become simply a matter of removing the bad part and replacing it with a (salvaged) working part. "OUT WITH THE BAD GUTS AND IN WITH THE GOOD GUTS" easy as cake! I hope this helps!! Best Wishes Al Smith!
I have a Fisher beta-video recorder and it does nothing.I think the problem is in the power supply, but I needthe schematics or any help to find out what could be broken.I'm almost an electrician, one year left in my studies,so it's not a broken fuse. I don't remember the model right now.Any help would be great. E-mail me.
Allan, I hate to pick Nits, but the Sanyo VCR 7200 was not Superbeta; just standard Beta. IIRC the VCR 7250 and the VCR 4027 were Sanyo's only Superbeta units. The 4027 being a monoraul unit. But then also, the Radio Shack Betas were made by Sanyo and most likely interchange, parts-wise. Model 20 same as Sanyo VCR 7200 and Model 22 same as Sanyo VCR 7250. Later. Pepse.
There was an earlier message about converting NTSC to PAL...this is how I do it.
I have a RIVA TNT2 Ultra video card with composite, svhs in/out connections. I record the NTSC video to the computer (full screen 640 x 480), and then play it back at full screen as an AVI and record it in PAL. Works well, although you need LOTS of drive space. 10Meg per second.
Hoep this has been some help.
Having a Clearout
E-mail me to find out more. Not Beta or video2000 sorry...
Thanks to all those who responded by email. I want to clear the whole lot in one go please. I'll take £100 for the lot including the tapes. Buyer collects. I live between Farnham and Guildford in Surrey.
I have a video that was made for me in Australia, and now I'm back in the States... how can I get the video converted so it will play in my VCR? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, I'm getting ready to do a persuasive speech here at Ferris aState University. I'm going to try to persuade people to support the Beta format. I'm willing to bet that many of my classmates have never seen or heard of Betamax, so I'll have some very basic explanations to give at the beginning of the speech. I'm also wondering if anyone around the west Michigan area has any Betamax equipment that I could borrow for this presentation. Any information, or help on this assignment would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.
I have an old Sanyo machine (VCR4500) which needs belts. I live in Durham, NC. I can't seem to find anyone to repair this machine. I have over 100 movies and recorded programs. I'd love to get it fixed. If I can't get it repaired, where can I purchase a functional betamax, at a reasonable price?
March 27, 2001 11:48 P.M. est.
Dear Pepse; You had me running upstairs to check my VCR 7200 which is currently packed up in its original shipping container(I bought it new) and right there on the outside of the shipping carton in 2 places (in big Blue letters) is the word SUPERBETA! Please don't scare me like that! Anyway your probably thinking of the VCR 6200 which was not Superbeta. Best wishes - Al
Howdy
A sanyo 7200 is a standard betacord machine, NOT superbeta, its the same as a sanyo M40 in PAL format, which also is a standard hifi betacord machine.
Unfortunately for us PAL users sanyo didnt make any superbeta's.
I hope this is of some help
John
Allan, maybe you got a one-off Beta?? I had a 7200 I bought in '86 (demo) and as I remember there was nothing on the deck that stated Superbeta. I had a 7250 and it had Superbeta on it. Then too as John states there ain't a 7200 Superbeta. I am not doubting what the carton states that you have, but I'm going buy what I had and also Ray Glasser's web side lists it as a "normal" Beta; introduced in 1984. No offense, just stating what I had. Later. Pepse.
hi,i'm looking to buy a head cleaning tape for my beta recorder.does it matter which format (PAL or NTSC) it is...I'm in England.
And if anyone had one I'd be happy to pay a good price
Thanks

Dear PEPSE - O.K. You got me i.e. I didn't run upstairs to check the carton (all else is true)! This vcr is stored in a foot locker under some other heavy items which because of my EMPHYSEMA I move around about once a year. Thus I am unwilling for a while to debate the subject but I'll check it out sooner or later and let you know (However in my memory Its' still a Superbeta)! Now onward!! I found an old (1993) NTSC cross reference replacement guide from a JAPANESE Video Head manufacturer- NIPPON SHOKUHIN SANGYO LTD(commonly known as "NISSHOKU"). Their U.S. affilitate is NIPPON SHOKUHIN SANGYO USA LTD. This catalogue lists all models that they carry heads for and was sent to me by a parts distributor named Union Electronics Distributors located in South Holland Illinois. Their telephone numbers as of that year were (Toll Free)1 -800 -648-6657 and 1-708-333-4100. I'm giving this information for 2 reasons 1st- it may be possible to contact this manufacturer (or one of their distributors in the U.K. who may have some Beta heads still in stock or as an alternative may be able to put you in touch with NISSHOKU directly with a strong possability that they may still stock heads for your PAL machines(Did you think Sony made all of their own? )
Secondly to answer Howards question I will list their list of Sanyo BETA Models (along with the replacement head catalogue part #) to be as accurate as is possible. The following is their list of SANYO BETA VCR Models Followed by the replacement Video Head part #

Allan, OK. Later. Pepse.
Hello, I have for sale a Sanyo 7250 Superbeta/Hi-Fi VCR. The VCR is in good shape and includes the remote control (sorry, no box or manuals). The VCR has new heads with only 15-20 hours of use, and the tape path was also aligned and cleaned, along with replacing the rubber idler tire. The VCR has some scuffs and scratches on the top which I've covered up with a permanent marker, so they're not very noticable. It also has a slight amount of fogging on the right side of the display which is barely noticable. As very common with this model, the door hinges are broken, but is otherwise intact. The remote is scratched up, but works perfectly. I've tried to provide the information as accurate as I can, and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them. I'm asking $125 + shipping for this VCR, but am open to any reasonable offer. I will ship via the carrier of your choice, or you can pick up if you're in the Houston, TX area. E-mail me at [email protected] and I will get back to you within 24 hours, most likely sooner. Thanks!
Hello all Beta Fans!
I have an SL-HF3000 Super Beta... in case you don't recognised it, that's not surprising... it's the japanese version of the SL-HF1000 (Commonly nicknamed "King Beta")...
I wanted to know what I should exspect should I chose to sell this item, could anyone help me??? Please e-mail me any insite you may have, i have the origional controller and manuals as well.
Thanks very much,
Mo
To Allan Smith,
That's quite a list of Sanyo models and parts numbers you've assembled. Thanks very much for putting the information together and sharing it with everyone, and thanks to the other betaphiles also for sharing info regarding the various Sanyo models. I may just pick up one of these Sanyos to add to my collection when my tax refund comes in. Howard.
Hi everyone! Now i'm doing some shootings on this wonderful part of the world wich is Europe (1st time here), but right now i need your help to get some cash for this adventure. So, if there's anyone interested in a almost new laptop, a PIII toshiba sattelite @600mhz, i'll be happy to hear some offers. Not under $650 pls. :)
OK......I have a question. I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but no one else can seem to answer it for me. I am a LONG time collector of Beta/VHS/Laserdisc..only a collector-I am not a repairman (most beta machines that I attempt to fix never quite become reassembled!). ANYWAY....I am a Label Completest on videotapes (that is I collect entire runs of movies on prerecorded video cassette ie.Vestron,Wizard. I have had problems trying to transfer a specific label to VHS. The Label is MAGNETIC VIDEO (the first FOX incarnation). When I try to copy a specific beta title called "WHERE BULLETS FLY" the copy always has a label on the transfer "COPY GUARD". This is a PRE macrovision copyguard that I can't seem to bust....can anyone help me. I hate VHS but my Beta Machines are prone to breaking....
To Eric, above: your Magnetic Video tape cannot be copied because it IS protected by the original "Copyguard" protection, which was the forerunner of Macrovision. I still have a device that can break it. E-mail me and we'll work something out. > Ray Glasser <
Hello, I got my hands on a SL-3000 and want to know if it's possible to capture and to render out to a PC. Is this product a much lesser quality than beta SP? Reason for this is because I do digital effects and want to know if its worth it. Post production houses output to Beta-Sp. I found out that Beta-Sp VTR can read beta oxide tapes in which Betamax utilizes. Thanks for your help
To the above poster. I've always wondered where Americans get their rude and obnoxious behaviour from. Then I remember they were a colony of the UK for a couple hundred years. Guess that answers that question. You embrace every piece of kitsch that comes out of the US from shopping malls to NASCAR, the WWF, QVC and the Home Shopping Network but you all act like your feces doesn't stink and it's not really a part of who you are. Wake up and smell the instant mocha coffee latt and get the hell out of Northern Ireland while your at it!

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get hold of a Betamax VCR preferably London/Kent areas but further afield OK.Thanks
My brother seems to think there was some kind of device made to allow Beta tapes to be played on VHS machines, kind of like the gadget that allowed cassettes to be played in eight track players. Can somebody tell me if there was ever such a device made and where I could possibly get one? He has an old Beta machine with a lot of tapes he made and would like to watch and his machine recently broke.
Could it be written in the header of this page that there's no such device as a beta to vhs tape adapter ?? This querry comes back too often.
Thank you !
Wow April's here at last! Spring weather should be just around the corner.I'm pleased to announce that in answer to the pleas from devoted fans of the Beta format Sony will be coming out with a special 2001 Edition SuperBeta Hifi VCR. It will be a multi system (PAL/NTSC/SECAM) unit with BIs recording capability. We are currently taking order as of April 1.
What great news - and what a coincidence! Apparently Philips is bringing out a revamped V2000 machine with long play and further improved picture quality - if that's possible! Watch this space for more info. It seems there is life in the old (best) formats yet!
Have for sale, make offer, a SONY SL-HF750 SuperBeta Hi-Fi VCR. I won this at auction for $400.00, it was described as playing tapes but no video. I got the machine and the power does not work, it won't turn on, and if you remove the retaining screws for the Linear Skate Tape Mechanism, the tape door comes open if you hold it with the front facing down. I believe the unit was damaged in shipment, but the seller refuses to take it back, and said it was sold-as-is. Why he insured it for $500.00 I don't know, because I can't file an insurance claim because it was sent from Canada, and I have been told I need to return it to Canada for the Insurance. I have since bought another SL-HF750, so if anyone needs this for parts, or wants to repair it, make me an offer.
