To: Mad Beta Collector- Sorry to msee you getting beat up on the web! It sounds like you have burnt out one or more L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diode) Display Modules on your machine. Open up the machine and visually search for the modules (Usually flat panes with faint little dots and see if they have a part number printed somewhere or alternatively remove the part and take it to a electronic parts dealer (sometimes you can match up with a generic) then resolder in the new part(s) Good Luck! Al
Hi Looking for a NTSC Sony Super Beta VCR such as SL HFR 100 etcwith good working playback. AND someone who,s willing to ship the unitto the UK! Have many super beta tapes to play back Thanks Pete
Hi! I am a born again christian from Lepanto, arkansas who loves things that so many people set aside, like great beta machines! I dont have much money but i would love to salvage things at rummage sells. I want to buy a record player and some jazz and gospel records, an old 8 track player (just to say i have one) and a BETAMAX VCR (which would be the star of my collection!) Please email me if you have similar interests and know where I can find a good beta machine in arkansas relitivly cheap! THANKS!! Acts 2:38 forever!
I am looking for a system that will convert PAL formatted videos to a VHS format...or visa versaAnyone know where such a system can be bought?
I'm desperately looking for a Betamax player, preferably a Hi-Fi model but it doesn't really matter.Call me on 07768 973138.
Allan a. smith, do you actually know anything useful to really help these people???
And PEOPLE whith faults on beta stuff... will you PLEASE check the pALsite fault finding guide before you write stupid things like the picture is snowey or I have no picture on my SONY or that one which everyone hates (as steve rowley mentioned earlier) can i play a beta tape in a vhs machine. PAL site people/writers - will you please put a message on 'post message' screen that advises people to first, check your site for fault info, and second (and put this in red) tell them for good about the beta in VHS machine issue.
Right, moan over with, we could move on to some proper problems. Like does anyone want to buy a sony HF100 (120 quid) or a sony C30 (35 quid). Dont worry Kevin L, I'm not selling the one's I've promised you, i just haven't got round to getting to your far away part of the country yet!
Thanks to the people who bought some of the bits and pieces from me, but there's still more to sell, like loads of Sony beta spares, including heads, rollers, modulators, motors, complete PCB panels etc etc. I may also be selling a Sanyo VTC M30 - perfect still/slow/infrared remote/ front loader/ 8 programme-2 week timer. It's a nice machine, and hase just been serviced - come up with a good offer (like round the 50 quid mark and I may think about it) by the way, it's the nearest Sanyo got to the sony C9 for picture quality and functions (even has the LED tape remain thing), but it's not got stereo sound.
right, gone on enough. But I can't emphasise enough about this Beta VHS thing - please do something about it!!!!
thanks
Hi, I´m looking for information about the formats used by the BetaVCR for tracking the videos, the differeces between the trackingof Beta and the VHS tracking.

To; Steve Wheelan; I think the answer to your question is unequivocably YES! But you are never going to please everybody! Right Steve?
Found a real antique that is up for sale if anyone is interested in A Sony SL-7200. This went up for autcion at a local (peoria IL) Auction house a week ago and got no bids. It does not have the timer (it was a seperate unit!) and is in unknown shape, but the auctioneer has informed me that he is willing to let it go real cheap- a few dollars plus shipping which will be more, or you could pick up! If interested e-mail him directly at [email protected]
Also at the auction were a batch of about 70-80 K-60! tapes contaiming unknwon material, I put a proxy bid on them to go up to $50- just to see what was on them- but lost since they went for twice that, which I thought real weird!
April 20,2001 3:25 P.M. est.
To Steve Wheelan; I don't know how you managed to erase my first response to your "message" Nevertheless the 2nd of what may be many messages to you is "YES" I think I can and have done so in the past. But I obviously can't help you can I I Steve? and I'll not stay off of this website! Help. I just obtained a Sony Betamax recorder model SL HF400. What is the procedure for recording with this machine. There seems to be some sort of slide marked record. When this is moved to the right, the record indictor lights for several sconds followed by a series of dots, then the recording indicator goes off with no recording activity. Please help.Jerry
For John Pelletier; I have a BMC 550 operators manual and service manual, what do you want to know?? I am wondering if anybody has a operators manual and/or service manual for the Sony GCS1 camcorder?? I could use a copy of each if possible. Later. Pepse.
Hi. I think I'm unlikely to be successful, but I am looking for a Sony SL-F1UB (not sure what the UB signifies) in good working condition and with its remote control. I run a subtitling business where I need to be able to pause pictures perfectly, move by single frame and use a demuted machine (i.e. be able to hear the sound when shuttling back and forth). All this is possible with the SL-F1, but do any of the other Sony machines enable this? Grateful for any advice anyone can offer!!
Those of you that use your old Betamovie camcorders or the Camera and VCR jobbers might want to check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheBetamaxVideographer . This was the old Portable Betamax Social Club but the owner (remember DasImperator?) finally "repurposed" it. Guess his NP-11s are running down and wants to find fresher ones (like the rest of us)...
Here is something that I am sure will make many Beta fans smile. I received an email from QXL, the auction web site, with the following notification:
"Recordable DVD
At last - now you can consign the VHS to the dump of 20th centuryanachronisms where it belongs. Don't forget our other DVD bargains- all £ 200 or under.
The first DVD RECORDABLE machine is here - bids start at £ 200 http://tm0.com/sbct.cgi?s=36891414&i=197041&d=208950 "
The current bidding, at the time of writing, is £400 (only 4 recorders available) and the auction ends on the 26/4/00 @ 12.39pm UK time. Apparently, current retail selling price for the Philips recorder is around £900.
I hope everyone who reads the Betamax Chat Pages has a good Easter.
Good Morning,We can really use some good advice. It's mid-morning in Ontario. Yesterday we purchased a pair of Bose 901 Series IV speakers. We are having a problem connecting them to our Sony STR-DE605 Receiver. There is an equalizer that comes with the Bose and directions say to connect into the Tape Deck. When we do this we haven't any control on the other components (dvd,cd,vcr). The sound is really flat. We could really use some expertise. We have an old NIKKO equalizer and the sound is better but it still does not have the real highs and lows. If we can get some info from anyone it would be much appreciated. Thanks guys,Rose.
Looking to buy beta tapes which have Hockey on them from the 70s or 80s. Please e-mail me and let me know what you have. I am willing to trade - buy - make copies for you and me to the VHS format. Don't throw those tapes away! DAN

Hello, I just bought a Sanyo betacord model VTC M40 from a junk store, it does not work properly of course(it only cost $10 AUST) It can record well but the picture quality is absolutly foul in playback on every tape I use, while fast forwarding and rewinding the picture quality is good but as soon as I let the button go the picture gets static in it and starts to jump and the tracking nob has no effect at all when used. Also 1 out of five times the actual tape gets caught in the machine when the cassette is ejected. Can someone please tell me what parts are worn? Dylan Lewis
Does anyone know where i can get the cable diagram for the cable of a seperate from the Pioneer NS-5 system? Specifically the mini disk deck and the cassette deck. I'm trying to use them without the actually NS unit itself. Anyhelp is more than appreciated,With thanks, Please reply to my email, as i no longer have access to this forum, many thanks,Kevin D
I have a problem with the display on my C9. A very kind person repaired the dc dc converter and the tuner is back, but the display although now working is almost invisible (the bright switch does have a slight improvement) Anyone know of an adjustment please?
HELLO I WANT TO BUY A PAL SYSTEM BETAMAX PLAYER. IM WILLING TO PAY WELL. FOR OFFERS USE MY EMAIL-ADRESS. THANKS!

Hello! I'm looking for a good, working reel motor for a Sanyo VCR7250 (part number V-01900) and/or a good, working, but reasonably priced Sony superbeta/hi-fi vcr. Email me at [email protected]!
Hello, I just posted a message, and need to add something. The beta machine I'm looking for must be NTSC! Thanx!
For Sale: EDV -9300 ED Beta editing VCR. $1200 + shipping. This is the Canadian version of the EDV-9500 (list $3300) and comes with wood side panels, owner's manual, remote, 5 new (sealed) EL-500 ED Beta tapes and 5 used Betacam SP 30 tapes (equivalent to ED Beta L750). It was purchased a few months ago from a seasonal (i.e. weddings) video production house in Canada. I've recorded and played a few tapes on it and it is working fine. It has a couple scratches on the top, but the front looks perfect. It makes great copies of DVDs via the S input. I'm selling because I already have two ED Beta machines. In 2 weeks I will post it on Ebay if not sold here.David Hadaway(603)899-5121POB 460Rindge NH 03461
Help! I have a plethora of 1980's vintage beta video tapes with a variety of TV programming recorded on it. I also have an old video of grandfather and need to get the stuff converted off of beta to digital format.
One solution was to use a beta machine and dub straight to a PC.I have a Sony Vaio and love the unit.Does anyone know where I can find a beta unit to purchase?
Also, does anyone know where I can take a beta unit to be repaired? Does Sony repair Beta VCR's any more?
Are there any repair stores in the Los Angeles/Orange County area?
Please I am looking for record player Beta Max.I live in Bakersfield California.
I have a sony beta hifi SL HF100UB in perfect working order with full working manual and over 700 video tapes i also have some manuals for the following models VCT5000.. SL-F30UB /SA.. SL-C7 . . I have an SL-C9UB (PAL) available. It suffers from the DC-DC fault (but has the openable converter - it'salready been repaired once) and may have a worn head (shows some white streaks on replay). Includes a box of used tapes.
Make me an offer .. whatever it's worth to you for repair or spares.Trade rather than cash would be welcome : I'm looking for a Video-8 player, best of all a Sony Watchman. Also interested in old HewlettPackard calculators.
I'm the sad owner of an SL-HF950 ES. Sony says it's an electro-mechanical fault. They're going to charge me $1,000 to repair, IF they can get the part.Any ideas what to do?Anyone else got a faulty SL-HF950 that I could buy to cannibalise?
To Steve Szmidt:
Recordable DVD sounds great, but will it dupe from another DVD? I found that Beta does it flawlessly (especially SuperBeta!). Also, I'd be curious to know how much a blank DVD would cost. The only thing related to that I saw (in the US, anyhow) was a Creative Labs DVD-RAM PC drive (for about $700 US$ -- haha!).
For sale sony Betamovie camcorder BMC-600, with extra XLR inputs, used for industrial/presentation and training stuff. Has not been used for over 8 or 9 years, but did fine after i powered it up, includes 4 tapes, 2 batteries (medium/good), charger, playback adapter, case, tripod, service manual, lenses and color filters, light and cables. Machine was bought in 1980's and was used on projects for Banks, Radiostations and Goverment stuff, 9 years out of service due to Upgrading to an EVW-300 Hi-8 machine.
(Follow-Up)
Oh yeah, I got my Sony HF-900 deck fixed. The problems with it were minor (basicly, the labor charge was greater than the parts -- LOL!). Now, what's the best type of tape to use for recording Superßeta? All I've gotten is RadioShack L-750's. A bit of variety is always nice. ¶¦¬]
Have a beta c30 1984ish Eur model with pal/secam logo thingy on front panel.Im having trouble with some tapes not lacing up properly, this is becoming more and more irritating.I leave the cover loose so i can rescue them when they are lacing up badly.Anyone got a cure for this, funny thing is that the L750 and L500 tapes cope but my ex broadcasting Betacam tapes are suffering the most. These tend to be BCA 30 or 60 type, non SP as to keep the heads in one piece. Also need a place to get a belt kit and heads if possible.
Beta rocks, I wont be trading it in for a DVD yet!
Any help appreciated.
Looking For Copy of "Gone With The Wind" Condition unimportant for Radio Contest(Scavenger Hunt) can return Buy or Rent Reply Soon Thanks
Hello, i´ve got an old SL-C9E, but there is snow on the picture, when i playback some of my old recordings, made on another Beta machine. And the video heads is brand new! :)In the Quick fail guide, they say i should adjust Tape Guide no.5! But where is Tape Guide 5???Can someone give me a hint??Help me!
Emil Jensen From Denmark!
April 27,2001 5:35 P.M. est.
Emil- Play a recording and try turning the tracking control back and forth to see if that gets rid of the snow. Try this before attempting any tape guide adjustment. If your going to try a tape guide adjustment I recommend that you take some paint or nail polish and paint over the adjustment screw groove before moving it- that way you can return it to its original position if it doesn't work. Best Wishes-Allan A. Smith
Thank you!It works perfect now!Even with old recordings, and new made on the machine!

I am selling my Sony Profeel system with Matching C9 Video bidding is at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1233805393
To Madness and any other Beta fans that were interested in my chat message of 22/4/00, regarding the potential demise of VHS, now that recordable DVD has been launched.
The QXL auction finished today. The winning bids for the 4 recorders were two @ £600 and a further two @ £500. Remember the current Philips price is around £900, so I suppose they have got a bargain.
It should be possible to copy a pre-recorded DVD onto a recordable one, if the Macrovision of the player is disabled and there are companies in the UK who offer this service, when they convert DVD players to play multi region discs. Of course copying a disc onto any format is illegal, but as Madness pointed out, Betamax does ignore this anti copying system, without the need of any modification.
I am sorry, but I do not know the cost of blank DVD's, but I am sure that at the moment they will be expensive.
Regards,
Steve Szmidt.
FOR SALE SONY SLHF950. PLEASE EMAIL FOR FURTHER DETAILS
Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a replacement video head for a Sony SL-HF100? I have tried the Sony Repair Centre and they can't help as the part is no longer available. I am in the UK.
Hi Paul. Sorry but the heads for the HF100 have been discontinued and so have the pattern ones which were available up until the middle of last year. try ringing around various repair centres, someone may have some old stock gathering dust. Rich..
I have been given a Sony HVC2000p camera and am hoping the vcr will follow. From reading this site I assume that it is betamax. Can anyone give me any info on it and/or point me in the right direction to get a manual etc., etc for it. It came in a big folding case designed for it and is in - I assume - mint condition, save for the mic cover which has rotted away. Thanks in advance for anyones help
Paul,You could try CPC (Combined Precision Components) if not done so already - http://www.cpc.co.uk/ or call as web site does not seem to be up and running properly yet +44 (0)1772 654455 you would not believe what they have and you might struck lucky. Also try RS components. Hope this helps
hi there
I have just picked up a Toshiba V-31 which seems to be in working order. However, on playback, certain images (especially high-contrast ones, like white captions on coloured backgrounds) show what I would call "feathering" - short black horizontal lines stretching to the right.
Does this sound like a repairable fault?
To answer the message posted by 'Park'. No Betamax is not the format used by broadcast TV stations. That is Betacam and is a completely different format.
Try a recording on the machine!it may be the videoheads!
Best regards
Emil J.
I need a power supply for my SLHF1000. Otherwise non-working machine would be fine provided power supply OK.
I have just bought a used SONY SL-T50, I pluged the power, the clock came one and I was able to adjust it, I tried to power the unit on, I got no esponse (the LED inside the switch does not come one, no other indicator comes on either)any Ideas ?, please email. Thanks
Typed extra zero in my previous posting by mistake. I need a power supply or machine with power supply working - SLFH100, not SLHF100.
Hi "Betapeople"Does anybody out there have any information about nec PVC tl50e ?I now its are a BETA TIME LAPS Recorder. Anyone interested ? Anybody want to make me an offer ?just email me and also I can send you picture off the unit.RegardsJan H.Pedersen
To: Steve Szmidt
I regards to your 4/24 article (just another 2¢), I've also seen a couple of places selling D-VHS machines (stands for either Digital-VHS or Data-VHS, not sure which) that seem to promise DVD quality.
According to a couple of the sites (can't remember URL's, right off-hand; I think eBay is one), these machines are being sold primarily for use with the DSS (digital satellite service [TV]) we have here in the US. Although, SuperBeta has proved itself a gem for recording off this system as well!

Hello. I've been bitten by the betamax bug. If you know of any betamax links or any uk sellers of parts and players, please let me know! Thanks.
Hi , I'm wondering if there is somebody who is using a Sony SL-F1E betamax video cassette recorder. I'm not able to record a (composite) video signal as well as audio with this device. At page 94 of my Sony SL-F1E service manual, I find a lay-out of the accessory connector. Of course, it is not difficult to solder video-in, video-out, video-ground, audio-in, audio-out, audio-ground, and make such a connection by using a scart connector to another video device. At the lay-out of the accessory connector, connection nr.1 is"camera select" and connection nr. 2 is "line select". Is there somebody out there, who knows how to switch to "camera select", perhaps to connect this connection nr. 1 to "main 12v" or something else??? Perhaps there is somebody around who knows or has a "wiring plan" of the accessory cable VMC-330 (with that little switch box) so I can find out how to solve this (small) problem. many, many thanks, [email protected]
Gareth.
Sounds like the video heads are worn to me too! Try recording end credits of a film (i.e. white lettering on a black background). If the picture breaks up over lettering or any white or black lines streaking from the letters then it does sound like the heads will need replacing.
Also did you by any chance pick all this up at the fair at the Birmingham NEC on Sunday ?
Keith.

lists a MultiStandard SL-T7ME Betamax VCR. For those interested, the bidding is up to $120 American and ends in 1 and 1/2 hour as of this post time. Good luck!
SAVE THE LANDFILLS: I have about 125 beta tapes, all recorded on that you'd have to erase. They're mainly 500s a few 250s and a few 750s. Absolutely free to whomever wants to pick them up. also, an NEC Betamax player, N40EU. Doesn't work but probably good for parts. With remote. It's also free. I'm in: VENTURA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, USA. E-Mail me if your interested in picking any of this up. Thanks!
Hi Keith,
Yep, got it at the NEC (except for my 2X4, which I got a few months ago. The seller threw in a totally virgin replacement head assembly, too! Hopefully it'll be a while before I need to use it...)
Do you know if it's still possible to get replacement heads for those Toshibas? I suppose it's too much to hope that Betamax heads were a standard component interchangeable between brands =:-(
I own a Sony SL-F1UB (SL-2000)which was dropped on the floor and no longer has sound during playback. Brought it to the nearest Sony repair facility and they said it would cost $250.00 just to look at it, let alone repair it. Can't afford that. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.
HI - I have a Betamax Camera. I understand there is an adapter to play the Beta tapes in a VHS VCR. Where can I get this adapter? I have a SEars Beta player but it just went on the lamb so I am stuck to play my beta tapes. Please answer - thanking you in advance.Patti
Hi,
I know this is not a pure Beta question, but it's related in a way. I am having trouble matching the SCART inputs to my TV with the RF arial line input. I have lots of devices piggy-backed through the RF loop and so need to keep this going, but also need to use the 2 SCART inputs for viewing digital satellite as well as input from Beta and VHS machines (RGB and composite video). The problem is when I set the colour and brightness levels to suit eg RF, when I switch to SCART there is a drastic differenec in picture levels (over contrasty, too much colour and brightness is reduced). I don't want to keep adjusting either whenever I switch, so wondered if anyone knows how to adjust the RGB/composite levels of the SCART inputs INSIDE the TV (as nothing I try in the on-screen menus ete will allow separate input adjustments). I am capable of poking around inside if I knew exactly where to look! I have E-mailed and faxed the manufacturer (Thomson of UK) but had no response at all. The TV is a Ferguson W7022U. If anyone can suggest anything or maybe can point me to another 'chat' page specifically for these type of questions I would be very grateful.
Many thanks in advance.
Barry.
To Gareth..
Try http://www.telepart.co.uk
They have a good website listing spares by manufacturer and then by model.
Hope this helps,
Keith.

I'm doing a paper on the Betamax tape and I need as much informationas is possible on the history, changes, and current state of the tape.
Hello! I have for sale a Sanyo VRC-500 Betamovie camcorder. This camcorder is a clone of the Sony BMC-550. The camcorder does show signs of wear, but is overall in good shape, and works great! It comes with a Sony AC-M110E AC adapter/charger and two NP-11 batteries. The batteries do not hold a charge, but they can be rebuilt. I will also include a new Sony Betamax L-750 tape to get you started. I am asking $100 plus shipping and packing for the camcorder, charger, batteries and tape, but the price in negotiable. For pictures go tohttp://beefjerky.home.mindspring.comEmail me at: [email protected] you!
Hi everybody!

Thanx for your help
Adam, Hungary

I am an owner of a great Sony SL-C9E Beta Video. Its display has broken, and I am very interested of buying a display as a spare part or another faulty video for its spare parts.Anyone that could help me please email me to the address above the message.
does anyone know the functionality of the superbeta on the sl-hf77es PAL machine? It says superbetahifi on the fron but doesnt appear to actually be a superbeta machine? theres no switch or anything, no mention in the user manual?
Greetings, me again! :)
I was just curious about something: I've thought about using my Sony Beta's PCM capabilities. I assume I can hook it up to my soundcard's digital outputs and record a playlist of mp3's to a beta.
But here's my concern: To play the tape back, does the HF900 need to be connected to an outboard digital (D/A) processor or can I just connect the audio out jacks to my stereo directly?
Thanks

In response to the generic question where can I find a Service/Repair Manual for my piece of Electronic(Betamax e.g.)equipment, I did some searching on the internet today and came up with these resource(s) 1.) http://www.samswebsite.com/photofacts.html- This is by far the most popular site for TV/Vcr repair technicians to find the schematic and/or repair manual for the item they are trying to fix. However I wasn't able to access their model list successfully to see what Beta Models they have repair manuals for( You have to punch in the model number to see what they have). The following 2 websites have some (but not all) Sony and Sanyo Beta VCR Service Manuals(I didn't check Toshiba or any other Brands), which are priced between $20.00-$ 30. 00 American. Check out 2.)www.agtannenbaum.com/vcr..html and 3.)www.treasurechestcorp.com Best Wishes-Allan A. Smith
1300 for a dvhs is about 2600 dollars here, which was the last approx price for a hf99es/ hf950 deck here in about 92
To Madness and anyone else interested,
Yes D-VHS has been released recently here in the UK, with very high storage capacity on normal VHS tape. There is however one catch! At the moment there is only one model available, made by JVC, and it costs around £1300. I'd stick to Superbeta for the moment!
Regards,
Steve Szmidt.
Re: getting Composite video into an F1. By far the easiest solution is to use the camera socket. This is a standard Sony K-connectory (details on PALsite http://www.palsite.info/kcon.html) which is still current. Indeed should be able to pick up a lead with a BNC and phone on one end and a K-connector on the other.
As for D-VHS, yes it's out here in the UK but the machines are interestingly missing a DV out connector:(
Beta format is able to make copies of macrovison encoded VHS tapes, although with some flashing. Question - can beta format copy a signal from a DVD machine? Don't wanna go out and buy one to find out - thought maybe somebody out there knows the answer.
If it works, heh, heh, heh. Now that is really the best of both worlds!
original question did not go it - Will beta copy a DVD flick?
The eject belt on my Sony C5 Betamax video recorder has snapped.I have the replacement but would much appreciate anyhelp/advice/instructions for actually fitting it.
Many thanks
Apparently DVD uses a stronger version of Macrovision than VHS. Older beta machines copy everything just fine. The newer Betas--the 2000 and 2l00--respect Macrovision.
I have a Sanyo Betacord VCR4670. I need a manual for it. If you have one orcan get one please email me. Thank you.
