SONY BVW10P (SP MODIFIED) AUCTION NOW IN PROGRESS!
Hello Everyone This morning I put my Betacam SP player up for auction on eBay.co.uk. The bidding started this morning at £ 200 and there is a very reasonable reserve price, well below anything a used equipment dealer would demand! The auction will run for 10 DAYS ONLY!
To take a look at the full description and pictures of the player in operation just follow the link below:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370378304
If you have any questions at all please feel free to mail them to me.
You know I have a bunch of perfectly good Sanyo Idler tires and belts lying around. I doubt if I'll ever get a Sanyo VCR again. E-mail me an address and I'll just send you a pair if you haven't gone and bought a set already.
Well it seems on the last auction the Snail nibbled at he lost a DOA SL-HF 500 to another snail known as '1ziggi1' who also sells Betas but at least uses one name to do so...
snails snapping at snails
It seems that the only people getting Betas on E-bay are the gastropods...
[ ==¼¼¼¼O][ ==¼¼¼¼O][ ==¼¼¼¼O]_@_¼¼$$$__¼¼_@_[ ==¼¼¼¼O][ ==¼¼¼¼O]-"say, haven't you noticed that we're the only ones buying these things?
About that EDV-5000, which E-bay handle are you 'Betamax' or 'AVGear'?
My ebay handle it Betamax. I've notice that others have names similar to mine, but mine's the original.
~Scott
I think this is a Dutch site with Betamax stuff for sale...
http://www.marktplaats.nl/print.php3?g=video&u=betamaxrecorders
I saw the EDV-5000 too, was thinking about bidding on it towards the auction myself. However,I probably won't have the funds to make it. The problem it has, should be on the simpleside to repair. It either has a bad capstan motor, or there is a reel table problem . Worsescenarios could be more complex (capstan driver circuit problem/reel driver circuit problem).Would be a neat deck to get your hands on, thats for sure. Andy
Does anyone have a listing of countries where the PAL format is used. The web-site claims most of Europe, Hong Kong and the middle east. However, I need a breakdown or chart that contins specific countries.
To Scott: Congrats on the Daewoo dude. Which model did ya get? 5700/5800? I'm an Apex owner mostly, but the Daewoo's are so sweet. A little tip: To make a Dolby-surround-compatable tape, go into the DVD player's setup menu and look for something like "Speaker Setup." And in that folder, there should be a couple of options like, "LT/RT" and "Stereo." Set it to "LT/RT"; then in the DVD disk's root menu, set the audio to "Dolby Surround" or "Dolby 2.0 (if available); if not, then 5.1." I've been using my HF750 or 1000 and it's so sweet!BTW: Guess who's gonna be one of the first (if not, the first) to have Lord of the Rings on superbeta next Tuesday? ;)
Madness:
Thanks. I got the 5800, and I must say for a company that also makes cars, it's a sweet little deck. I would like to make a surround sound tape, will have to fiddle with it some more. I too am going to have Lord of the Rings on SuperBeta, maybe even on ED Beta with my 9500. It's amazing how sharp the 1000 bootlegs. At least now I'm not copying from an inferior format anymore! BTW... this is to all those reading, The Beta Informer newsletter is still in operation, just awaiting some more content as there is hardly anything to publish. I did have a question about Japanese betas: What exactly is the deal with the tuner? Can it be used on American tv with just the order of the channels wrong? I really do hope I get that EDV-5000.
~Scott
See how the Snail is a bad influence on this optimistic Beta seller...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370491663
A low end mono NEC Beta with a missing flipper door. Start bid is $15, BIN price is $250 and there's a reserve.
As Dr. Evil would say; "Ri-i-ight"...
If you have an SL-2500 or SL-2700 but no remote this one, an RMT-312, is available for $5 start $20 BIN...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370462664
And I think you can also use that remote on this Zenith/Sony OEM Beta http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370498169
Too bad the flipper door is missing....
I had to grab that RMT-312 for my SLO-340. I was surprised that my Zenith VR9800 remote did not operate the swing search on the SLO. I hope the 312 does. I am also surprised that the RMT-312 wasn't snapped up by whomever bought that "brand new" SL-2500 that ended yesterday or today. I'm going right now to find out what ghastly price that one went for.
Question for you SL-HF750 folks. I just got one, and find that the tape transport buttons, both on the remote and on the panel, Record in particular, seem slow to respond compared to other VCR's I have owned. I have a lot to learn yet about this unit, but I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
nice to see it go to someone other then the gastropods...
Don't you mean SLO-420? The SLO-340 is the Texas Walkman X-I 'portable' recorder.
By the way that SL-2500 went for a whopping $212 bux! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1368286008
Also there's an AG-400 tape changer available that will work for the SL-2500, SL-2700, SL-2710 and SLO-420
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1369840722
Still at $20 bux...
Tip o' the hat to Olive. It is an SLO-420, not a -340. No idea why (or how) I could get those two confused, but I do that a lot.
There was a 2500 with a remote that looked to be in great shape that went for just $52 last weekend. I got caught in a conversation and missed a chance to check on it late. I would have grabbed it for sure. Of course, I don't need it, but at that price I can't, as they say, afford *not* to buy! $212 could have gotten the buyer that nice SL-700 that recently ended. I guess it's just that something about a "new" unit. HOWEVER, I always wonder how "new," "like new" and "mint" they really are, or can be, without a remote or a manual.
I didn't know the SLO-420 could recieve infra-red remote control, I thought that feature was removed for industrial application...
Sean
Nope. Just the tuner's been removed. It even has a timer for recording. Very peculiar unit. It responds to the basic commands from my RMT-124; I cannot determine whether or what remote is supposed to come with it, but I assume if the 312 isn't exactly the one, it's probably the closest you can get next to that. Amusingly, by the way, the little lid on top of the unit over where you would tune channels on, say, a 2300, has a sticker on it saying it cannot be removed.
CAN the lid be removed? have you ever taken the cover off the whole thing just to see what's under there? I would be interested to know...
Sean
Got this image from a fellow Betafan and had to share it...

Here's the other one he sent...
http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/a78f28e7/bc/Goofy+Olive+stuff/betasnail1.jpg?bcQ7Dc9A1LR8PPWx
No way, Sean! If I take the little top cover off the 420, something just awful will happen, and the unit will tell me, in it's best Mom voice, "What did I tell you? WHAT--DID--I--TELL--YOU??" :) Actually, it won't come off. You pull on it and it won't lift. I have to pop the cover off one of these days to check out a little noise during threading, and I'll let you know what happens. Stay tuned...
That's cute. I will save that.
To Michael and Sean! as I say to you, The optional Wireless remote for SLO-420 NTSC version are RMT-312. About the lid? no im sure nothing under, on the lidthere are a label? this lid can not be openedRegardsJan H.Pedersen
The SL-HF750 out on a picnic picture is greatly improved with the introduction of the "Snailings" crawling all upon the poor unit. If I was to list that Beta, on Ebay INC, with the Snalings crawling all over upon it, would that mean I could get at least $2,000 US for it? Ahhh.. the wonders of Adobe. Andy
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370196663This could be a good deal. I don't need anything like this, though. Anyone know who this "Howiecat" charecter is? Someone asked about how an SL-HF860D was and whether it was worth $300. Well, IMHO it is. I've used one now for about a year. I've also used the following beta VCR's: Toshiba VM-42, Toshiba V-S43, Sanyo 7250/Realistic Model 22, and a Sony SL-HF300. This VCR has hands down the best BIII recording/playback quality of all of them along with the best BII recording (in standard beta; the Toshiba V-S43 comes in 2nd in quality). The quality is of course a bit better with superbeta on in BII mode (still can't tell any difference between standard and super in BIII speed; on the Sanyo 7250 I never could tell the difference even at BII speed). Also, the special effects work very well (still frame, slo-mo, locking scan, digital scan, etc) and can do with two heads what most others take 3 or 4 heads to do (which also made putting brand new heads on very affordable at $20). I must admit the digital scan feature is a very cool and useful feature for finding stuff on a tape (though be aware, that there's no button for that function on the machine itself, so you'll either need the original remote, or a one-for-all/RadioShack remote that can use advanced codes). All in all, a *VERY* nice machine to own, I highly recommend it.
Thank you, Jan; that is good information about the RMT-312.
Anyone have any information on the Zenith VR-8510? It looks like a Slimline unit, with the little flipdown panel like the SL-2300. It doesn't work, and I'm waiting on a tune-up kit which I am nearly certain will fix it. The odd thing about it is that its only records in BIII. Does it have any special circuitry or hardware in it that enhances the quality of BIII recordings? No info on RG's website other than the model number.
Anyone want a C5 needing repair, and dozens of useable tapes? Free to good home.Stockport, UK
It seems that BetamaxTO will only let you at pages when you go through the 'front door' of http://www.betamax.to
Also they've been changing the URLs of all their pages adding a /top/ subdirectory not that you can directly access subpages anymore...
good thing I managed to download all their pix before they made it that much harder to do so...
I have a Sony BMC-100 Betamovie camcorder for sale. It is in perfect condition, complete with tape and five good NP-11 batteries. Unfortunately I do not have a charger. I guess I am just looking for reasonable offers. I live in Wiltshire, England but would be prepared to ship on receipt of payment.
However I did find this excellent EDC-50 page
http://www8.ocn.ne.jp/~bcc100/bp05/bp05.html
Thanks Stephan, I was trying to figure out why it costs £147 from Sony here in the UK
So the battle continues for the EDV-5000...so much time left too. I am in need of a tuneup kit for my SL-5800, as it's playback is all garbled and it winds slow. It also holds onto a bit of tape upon eject. On playback the image is all distorted, no color, I can hear the sound, but it's not good either. I really haven't had time to mess with it too much, will try a head cleaner and see if that helps. I'm hoping I just didn't get a boatanchor for a unit, as it's in good condition otherwise.
~Scott
To Michael: The Zenith 8510 is actually a clone of the Sony SL-2400. Because it is a clone of the 2400, it will accept Sony or Zenith IR wireless remote commands (the SL-2300 requires a wired remote). I think the main reason Zenith went for a "BIII record only" for the 8510 is to save money on OEM-contract costs. I own both a Zenith 8510 and a Sony SL-2400, and the BIII record/playback on both models look pretty much the same.
The SL-2500: It is a very sweet machine; it was one of the first models I bought when I was introduced to beta bidding on ebay two years ago. As an ebay neophyte, though, I paid WAY too much for the deck. Unfortunately, My 2500 currently has a jammed loading mechanism (its achilles heel, like the SL-2700); hope to get the unit fixed up in the next few months. I also have the SLO-420 and Zenith 9775 (SL-2500 clone) in my collection; unfortunately the 420 has a tracking problem, but other than that the unit works well. I do have the AG-400 changer for it, but the mounting plate for it is missing, so I have not been able to get the unit set up on the 420 yet. Does anyone here have an AG-400 mounting plate they are willing to part with?
Wowie Zowie folks! This is a rarity! Somebody's got an AG-120 betastack changer on ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1370563041. This is the GRANDADDY of all Sony betastack changers, the one and original model that started the whole betastack family. Anyone who's got a SL-7200 or SL-8200 MUST pick this up for their beta classic collection! Howard
To Scottt: I have the SL-5400 and found that I can get it back to running shape with a little sandpaper to not only the idler tires but to rubber on the central winding post that drives the tire assuming neither is so badly decayed or cracked.
I'm not sure however if tuneup kits are specifically available for the SL-5xxx series though one might get the Zenith equivelent.
http://www.iglou.com/studiosound/index.htm has belt/tire kits for most VCRs

Scott, ole friend! I've already bought two SL-HF750s this year, am currently in the middle of finishing deals on two more SL-HF450s, and am currently bidding on a busted SL-HF650 on ebay, so I'm afraid I won't be able to bid on that SL-HF1000, much as I want to. It would have been a fine bidding competition, but I'm just tapped out right now, you lucky dog! Good luck and hope you win; am looking forward to the next issue of the Beta Informer. Howard
Yes, it was I who created the snails on the poor 750. GEeek! I didn't use Adobe.. LOL i used my complimentary copy of Macromedia Fireworks MX. Well, I lost at $242.50. Pretty cheap for a 1000, but I have one already anyway and there's no telling what kind of life this deck has led. I am still looking for my 2100 though.
~Scott
Well that 1000 just ended about 2 mins ago. It went for a paltry $242.50 . To that mono-stereo snailer of course. So Scott, guess I was waaayyyyy off in regards to the ending price of that. -Andy
Scott:
If that's you, congrats on getting such a great price on an SL-HF1000.. to be honest, I was really tempted to bid on it myself, especially when it was so cheap in the last few minutes.. but I couldn't steal it away from a fellow Betaphile.. (besides, I need to get rid of what I already have.. can't let that auction fever take over.)
I sort of wished I would have gone for it, but I already have a 1000, and the deck I am really seeking is a SL-HF2100, if I ever find one. Mono-Stereo (the winner) seems to be the snailer type in my past experiences.

Hi To Everyone! - I once again have an over-run of brand new Beta tapesfrom a duplication job here at my studio. Those of you who are using the old Betacam oxide tapes will be interested in this lot. One thing though I can't understand why anyone would bid for an autograph http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=896371580 especially of a living person. Nine times out of ten it's a phoney (someone tried to sell a base-ball autographed by Mother Theresa!) and even if it was real, I'd rather have it from the personality themselves singing it for me. One of favourite items is a CD autographed by Deborah Harry but I wouldn't want to just buy one on the net.

The lens is being auctioned separately. I hate when that happens! I don't think it has a K-connector anyway. And it's eyepiece looks not to be thare.
Stupid, Stupid me. Sorry Franny! (and all other people lusting after that PAL camera I posted...) The lenses are easy enough to get, and I have an adapter to make it work wiht K-conncetor equipment. Farnny, If you REALLY want it, I will give you a K-adapter and also a C-mount lens that will work with it. The Lens isn't anything great, however.
Sean.
That's OK. I already have a camera.
I'm confused... I thought you were stateside, Sean.. this camera is posted from Oz..
I am. This is the PAL site and I figure it's nice to post nice PAL stuff if I can find it. Sorry to confuse you!

Sean: SL-5800 worn heads and he still has the wired remote. SL-HF400 multiple problems, especially after bad professional repair attempt. Would the SL-5800 fit in my HR-S5500U box for transportation?
I don;t know. I don't want it now, unless Andy (yes, are you reading this, Andy...) could give an estimate on replacing them. If the estimate is unreasonable tell him I will give him $5 for the remote alone. It probably won't fit in the HR-S5500U box as I have one of those (Nice, aren't they?) and it's a tad small. You can try, though...THanks!Sean
All I have left of the HR-S5500U is the box. Stolen, and they left 2 betas behind. Insurance bought me a new HR-S7300U which comes close but only weighs a third as much. Y'know what that means.
If the 400 is still available, I would like to get it for parts to repair my 400..
Any idea on where i can find a manual for a Sony BMC-110.. or does anyone know about the battery charging process.. cause I want to charge the batteries... but it says see manual, and I dont want to screw anything up.

I'll visit the SL-HF400 when it's light out. VCR is here in Beautiful British Columbia (only about 10 miles from the Blaine, WA USPS office).
Great, that would make shipping much more reasonable (not to mention more sure to arrive). :)

Steve: What model number???Thanks, Sean
Good Beta day yesterday. After recently acquiring the NEC VC-N70EU Beta hi-fi VCR from somebody in town for my collection and using it a little bit, I became interested in the other NEC beta hi-fi models, and in the past few weeks purchased a working VC-N65EU super beta hi-fi and a vintage VC-N739EU beta hi-fi off of ebay. By coincidence, BOTH units arrived yesterday! I spent the whole evening unpacking both VCRs, setting them up, and testing them out. The VC-N65EU is working well right out of the box, while the VC-N739EU has a bit of a snowy picture, which I hope to clean up with a cleaning tape tonight. The VC-N739EU, by the way, was NEC's first beta hi-fi unit, with four heads, lots of variable-speed scanning features, and is a monster of a VCR, very bulky and huge, top of the line from 1983. Will test out both VCRs over the weeknd, and let everyone know how it goes on Monday. Howard
The Sears/Toshiba portable do have a lot of similarities to the SLO-340/ SL-3000 VCRs and Toshiba's first VCRs, like the RM-534, was clearly a Sony OEM (of the SL-8200), but I imagine any similarity is more of like-minded design standards than by an OEM. The SL-3000 and SLO-340 put the camera port in front while the Toshiba hides it. Also the SL-3000 is a BII reocrd only machine with BI playback capability while the Toshiba unit is a BII/III recorder and if I'm not mistaken was like most other non-Sony Betas in that it did not support the BI speed -play or record - at all.
The design of the mini tuner timer module with twisty-dials and intended side-by-side placement as opposed to the SL-3000 's stackable TT -3000 with a 14 presets tuner also indicate that Toshiba designed their porta-betas on their own.
Does anyone know about BMC-630 / BMC -800? ?????????????????
PAL or NTSC (found on germany and non existing domain, through a link)?
Nice!

Howard: I had a total of two NEC models in my life. The first one was the VC-20EU, a low-end mono deck w/ an odometer-style counter. I actually bought it at a Goodwill awhile back. Funny thing is, it had a tape loaded into it when I found it. Not stuck, however, as it would load & eject. I took it home and found that the machine played well and the tape had a bunch of Tonight Show episodes from the 80's. Worked for awhile then developed a loading problem. Gave it to a friend with a similar unit for parts. M
y other deck is also a VC-65EU, which, I still have but now has a tape stuck in it and I haven't gotten around to trying to fix. That's the one that can record in BIs!
The coolest thing about the NEC is when you load a tape, the compartment lights up. The door is totally transparent so you can see a little swing mirror that lets you see exactly how much tape is left on the supply reel. That did beat Sony's top window which was rather useless when you stack other equipment on top of their decks.
One other thing: I was reminded of my NEC when I dug out the SLO-1800 last weekend. I did acutally find the latter than a fuse blew in the power supply. So now it works again. But can anyone tell me where exactly inside it the superbeta switch is? It was mentioned that the switch is inside the unit but I can't seem to find it!
Madness: RDG's site links to another site, Kevin Fedriko or some such is the guys' name, and if you scroll WAY down to the section on industrials you will see the section on the 1800 and it will tell you where it is...
