SL-HF900 parts machine, cheap, apparently with good heads
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1374011529
Would like the whole power supply unit from the SL-2710. Mine works, but sustained a power surge and the 9V portion fried up. Managed to make it work by adding a proto board with a regulator but still far from ideal.
snailie_in_training@gastopod_University.com
Hey Andy-
Can you fix that 900? If so, it would be a REALLY nice compliment to my 1000......
Yes, I could very easily fix that SL-HF900 unit. However, it probably will fetch 75% or more value of what a "working" SL-HF900 Ebay unit would. Right now the bid price is low.. but just wait. Andy

Snalie strikes again...anyone want to take him down, just for the sheer fun of it? You've still got time....

If somebody want to buy my MLV-1100 MTS adapter for $100 bux or more I'd love bid on that SL-HF 600 to kill Snaling cuz that SL-2710 really ate into the wallet. Let me know before that SL-HF 600 is 'sleeched'...
Interesting to recall that the first Beta I ever bid for 3 years ago was nibbled at by that Snaling. And I wish he'd won it cuz it turned out to be a rusted pile of junk.
I imagine that in order to do that 'easy fix' to the Halle sensor I would've had to take the upper drum assembly off? Which I probably never would've gotten back on exactly right I imagine. Oh well...
I have that SL-2710 PS ready to ship if you need it Mr. Joly.
Anyone want a Zenith HVC Camera clone WITH the camera adapter for only $70 bux?

A couple hours left to go...
Quite the optimistic BIN price ($225 bux?!?) for this low-end Sears Betavision...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1374462556
Nobody bid on that Zenith camera. Too bad as the camera adapter would make it useful enough for even a crappy VHS deck...
Anyway it'll probably get relisted and maybe at a lower price.

An SL-6200 BI speed Beta VCR. This is the first Beta ever made (if you don't count the Japanese version SL-6300). I've only seen one like maybe 2-3 years ago...
Normally this would sit inside the LV-1901 19" TV console. One would presume the TV died...

Brenda-I was the poster about the Daewoo DVD. It is model 5800, and I purchased it off ebay with all the mods done already. It came in the original box with all packaging and remote, totally reprogrammed. I would recommened the seller, as they are very professional. It cost me $140 total with everything done, and it does a great job. I would certainly recommened them. Hope that helps. Do a search on ebay for "macrovision".

Had a pretty good beta weekend; drove to a high-end custom home theater dealer across town to do some window shopping on Saturday morning and ran across a used Sanyo VCR7250 Superbeta hi-fi VCR that the store had received as a trade-in from one of its customers and had refurbished and put back on sale. The 7250 was missing the front fold-down panel, but otherwise in good refurbished working condition. After a bit of haggling was able to pick up that machine for a hundred bucks to add to my beta collection. Also received the latest batch of used beta tapes purchased off ebay; 25 old Sony L-750s; will probably go ahead and splice new 1/2" tape stock into the cassette shells to recycle them. Also completed about 15 hours of editing during the weekend. The only problem was my AC broke down on Thursday, and temp. was in the mid/upper '90s F. (well over 30 degrees for those of you in celsius land). Whew it was hot; too bad the AC repair man cannot come to fix the unit until middle of this week, but atleast he's coming! Hope everybody is cooler than I am! Howard
Regarding Madness' previous posting about yacoli's sale of surplus betacam tapes, I regret to inform all here that he has no more Sony betacam oxide tapes to sell; I bought up his very last batch of eighty Sony tapes last month. He may have more non-Sony oxide tapes for sale later on (Maxell, Ampex, Scotch, etc.), though, so keep an eye out for them on ebay. Howard
Scott, since Brenda Ann is stationed in South Korea, and Daewoo is a Korean company, I hope she can pick up the domestic Korean model of the 5800 REAL cheap, and have it locally macro-modified for a really good rate there. Too bad she's not stationed in Japan, then we can REALLY bug her about Sony's domestic Japanese beta models. Howard
Does anyone have a clue as to how Sony comes up with their model numbers? As far as I can determine there is no ryme or reason to their model numbers that would give you a clue as to which model came first
Howard: Yeah, too bad about that yacoli seller. I was so impressed w/ his seemingly endless supply of betacams that I thought he'd never run out! He did have some lots of non-Sony's up here & there. I bought 2 lots (60) of Maxell BC-20's off him awhile ago and had no problem w/ a single one! He also had some 3M/Scotch up one day but someone had already done the BIN when I came across it. I'll keep watch out to see if he brings up anymore.
Well I think the Sony marketing staff just threw numbers in the air or fished them out of a bowl or maybe they have some private significance to whoever was in charge of that...

Was doing a little reading back, and noticed a few posts regarding DVD players like the Daewoo 5800. I can provide a bit of info on these. Players from such makers as Apex (Hiteker in Europe & Australia), Samsung, GE, Sampo..and Daewoo..can often be modified for macro- and (depending on brand/model) region-free by the owner.
Most of these players have a flashable ROM which stores the firmware -- the internal software which controls the player's functions, brings up the setup menu on the TV, etc. By downloading a "hacked" version of this firmware, burning it to a CDR/RW, and loading this disc into the player, the firmware is upgraded. Macro and region are controlled here and these functions can & will be disabled when updated (again, depending on the model). A few models can be "hacked" even by using a secret remote code (i.e. the Apex AD-600A's famous loophole menu).
One other striking thing about these "el-cheapo" models is that the DVD loader itself in many of them is nothing more than a slightly-modified IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM drive connected w/ an IDE cable! So it's even possible to replace the loader if it happens to die. The Daewoo 5800 falls under all the info above. See this for more info: http://www.nerd-out.com/darrenk/Daewoo_DVD5800/DVD-5800patch.htm
It's a bit late, but I thought I'd drop in that 2¢!
It's so nice to read tales on how to defeat the dark lord Satan of copy protection. I realy gall me in how we have to keep fighting for the right to be able to watch or listen to what we want when we want to without the big corporations trying to wrest that control back. Sony's new copy protection scheme for CDs can be defeated with an ordinary Sharpie arount the data ring holding the copyguard stuff. Even worse is the way 'they' then jack up the prices on CDs becuase they think they've shielded themselves from the compitition of the bootleggers and MP3 sharers (and that's what it is - competition) which only makes people want to bootleg even more. They should take a hind and instead of wasting money on copyguards and sueing Napster/Aimster MP3 sites they should lower prices to a point where it doesn't make much sense to bother bootlegging. Too bad craven ( and short term) greed has a way of blinding big corporations to their long term detriment...
BTW/I was reading about how the old 'Cart-o-vision' units couldn't rewind the cartridges so you had to schlep them back to the store every time you played one. Not a great way to sell a system and cart-o-vision was carted to the ash heap of history.
Sort of the way DIVX would put a product in your hand that was only good for a few plays then electronically take it away...
Hear hear! I hear ya all the way Andy. Most of the new albums I buy are vinyl, I *very rarely* buy a CD. Morpheus comes in handy for the times the album isn't available on vinyl, I just burn it with my Plextor 12/10/32S (GREAT writer BTW). For my vinyl playback I use a Technics SL-1200MK2 with a Shure V15VxMR cartridge, sounds very good IMHO. I don't use cassettes, but I do sometimes use Reel-to-Reel (Sony TC-765 I think). Those are run through a nice Pioneer SX-780 receiver.
I just checked, it definitely is the TC-765 (Nice model by the way :))
A unique Beta item you won't see anywhere else...
http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/a78f28e7/bc/Olive+Garden+of+Earthly+Delights/Silver_BMC-220.jpg?bcxeki9Ac6w4a2aM
Probably the only silver colored BMC-220. OK I had to replace one of the side panels of my BMC-220 and all I had were parts from a defunct BMC-110. I swapped the insert panel of the cassette door with a 220 insert and removed the 110 identity label in the back.
While I still stick to Beta and won't be getting a DVD any time soon I'm not one of those crazy Luddites who think that vinyl is superior to CDs. With records you really have to work at them to get a decent sound out of them. They snap, crackle and pop or rumble like the El on anything I can afford to play them on and you practically need a Voodoo priest to find a setting on your turntable that functions...
Oh god, I hate those "copy-protected" CDs! I've read abit about some of the schemes used. The one you describe has a track of garbage data encoded on the disk. Since a CD/DVD-ROM drive always looks for data tracks first, this stuff confuses the drive and hides the audio tracks from it (in fact, it's known that a few titles will actually jam the slot-loading iMac [such as the latest Celine Dion disk], requiring that the machine be sent in for service!). By coloring it in w/ a Sharpie as you mentioned, the track is masked and player will find only the audio tracks (an audio player, of course, always looks for audio and would ignore the garbage track).
Another scheme involves multiplexing noise data in w/ the audio. The error-correction system in most audio players will be able to cope and this "noise" will be inaudible. However, some car, portable and DVD players choke on these. This stuff would reck havoc if you tried to rip or copy such a CD w/ a PC. In other words, you'd get a rip or CD-R full of nothing but noise.
I still have a large collection of vinyl (lots of rares and imports) myself but had gone the CD route until Napster came along. I used to buy my CDs at used record shops where many of them were promo copies and as much as 50% off the retail! Geez, I even found a couple of promos in the shop before the albums were due to be released!!! For quite awhile, I copied some of them and vinyl to minidiscs w/ good results. But then Napster and others just let me download songs and even entire albums. Now I use my DVD player to play CD-R's loaded w/ hours of MP3's -- love that (Andy, your Daewoo 5800 can do the same and more). Most of my audio gear is Sony ES so I get some nice results myself. ;)
To Olive Thomas, "Probably the only silver colored BMC-220." I have never seen them any other colour? I have about 7 of the 200 's and 3 or 4 100's.
To Andy Sanchez, CD's obviously arent that good at all considering the number of people who have adopted them. Then again, If I spent heaps of money and time and effort producing an album, I guess I should sell it for next to nothing and bask in the glory of knowing I made millions happy and myself poor!
does anyone know where i might get a power adapter for a toshiba portable v-x340 i just picked up 5 of these for free and would like to see if they worked. these units were used in some video jukebox's from the 80's. they also came with several tapes that i assume are music videos. thanks
It is not that the artists don't deserve their royalities. They do. Music artists don'tget no added royalties because of CD sales vs. Cassette (foreign word to you'all I know),and the way things are going anyways there is going to be no other alternate audio formatsbecause CD is the standard , which is sad to me. I just don't agree with the pricing of CD, it is no longer a fancy "new" technology so why do people still pay the extravagant pricing for them.
I buy all my CD's *used* too, in fact I can not recall the last time I bought a new CD. I am not here to say Vinyl is superior or whatever, because that is an argument that goes nowhere fast. Everyone has their preferences, and what else can one say.
The end.
Hmmmm. Where can I buy a new release on vinyl? Darn it, I'm so sick of CDs! I wish I had more laserdiscs though! LOL... Feed the iMac a 45 and see what happens :P
There's a few places that sell new vinyl onlinehttp://www.cdnow.comhttp://www.towerrecords.comand, look in your yellow pages, there's still some local shops that sell vinyl here in Houston.
Hi there.
I have three Beta machines that I would like to sell. All work but each needs a slight bit of attention.
They are: Sanyo VTC 5300P This machine is in great working order but the ejection is a little stiff.
I have a Sony C5 This machine is in great working order and last time I played tapes some time ago, it was perfect. Having recently tried it, the picture has a very slight wobble, nothing a good clean would not sort out.
And I also have a Sony T7 ME This machine works fine but the sound does not come through, and out of the three, this I think would need the most attention.
Any reasonable offers would be considered for each or all three.
Thanks. Paul.
I play my cassettes with a 20-year Marntz that was from my grandpa' and it sounds perfect. It has a very strange way to play it spends 2 sec to reach the cassettes correct playing speed and the motor stops completely a few seconds ater stopping the tape. Maybe it's the beta of the cassettes but I prefer 8-track or Beta hi-fi.
Reagrds to all,
Casimir
It is Marantz, not marntz

Around 1985, I purchased a Sony HFR90 with a (I believe) HFP200 processor. These went on the fritz and were tossed. I am interested in viewing my Beta collection again, but most were recorded using the processor for sound. I have an HF360, but when I try to play these back--you guessed it--no sound. My question: am I doing something wrong? If not, is there a Beta machine out there that will play the sound on these tapes, or do I need to hunt for another HFR90/HFP200 combo?
I apologize in advance if I am violating the intent of this chat page. I am new at this stuff.
Best RegardsKeith
Keith,
Your HF-390 should play back those tapes.. the processors recorded the same sound as the SL-HF series. Make sure your audio monitor is on Hi-Fi, and not on Normal. Also, the tracking is critical on Hi-Fi tapes.. if you are getting any noise in the video, you most likely won't get sound.
Help needed! I ve just come off eBay, where I was about to purchase a Betamax copy of an early 80 s movie called Wildstyle for $2.00, only to find out that it had just been bought. This is a massive long-shot, I know, but is there anybody out there with any suggestions as to where I could find another copy of it? Also, another movie from 1984 called Beat Street ?Thanks,Dave
Hi Keith - You didn't specify the condition or source of your HF360, so eliminate that as a source first. Check the audio line outputs, for example, to rule out a RF output problem. Do the sound meter lights light up when you play an HFR tape? That might suggest an output problem. Try a commercially recorded tape or a tape that simply came from another machine. The HFR tapes' ideal alignment may be just out of reach of the HF360, and maybe a tech can weigh in on that for you. Check the monitor select switch if there is one to see whether that affects sound output. Good luck. And regarding your other concern, technical questions are, in fact, a little out of the ordinary here, as we tend toward sublimating our petty, insufferable personalities in the form of schoolyard insults and the ASCII equivalent of Special-Ed class fingerpaintings, while indulging one-another's simple minded opinions and lack of class. But we'll let it go this time...

Hey everyone, just some random thoughts and questions.
What would a tune-up/set of new heads cost for a midrange SuperBeta Hi-Fi?
What is up with the "snail" art and references? I would appreciate if somebody clued me in.
I was in an electronics store the other day and saw a blank JVC VHS cassette proclaiming "The inventor of VHS." It would be like the republican party saying "From the people that brought you Dan Quayle..."
Thank you for your time.
__@__?_____ <---confused about snail art
_@_¡¡-Keith; I have an SL-HF 360 and it plays tapes that recorded on an SL-HRF-60/HFP -200 just fine (with the exception of a couple tapes I'd accidentally left the audio level on zero). Since the SL-HF 360 has no monitor select switch you won't be able to just listen to the linear track. Also since the HiFi track is recorded in the same sweep as the video tracks proper adjustment for one should also be proper adjustment for the other._________@_¡¡_______@_¡¡____@_¡¡___________
_@_¡¡-as for the snails... well youd've had to have been here a month or so ago when it was revealed that this one E-bay bidder name Snaling (which sounds like snail-ing) was selling the betas he bought under another name. (if you need another reason not to buy from a dealer - not only are you paying for the beta you bought , you're paying for some of the broken betas that dealer bought as well...).
One "sleech"____@_¡¡ led to another and now snails are a healthy part of your Betachat diet._@_¡¡_@_¡¡_@_¡¡_@_¡¡_@_¡¡_@_¡¡
_@_¡¡- by the way at least we snails have the common courtesy to sign our names to our gastropodietral noodlings..._@_¡¡- <-snailie sitcks tongue out
hee hee... Eeeek! Enny1 got a copy of OS X (a rip-off of the CD) they can... well... give to me? LOL! I'll trade them for software. I've got a whole list! (PC only.. :( ) We really should archive our snailie drawings! Does anyone else's SL-HF300 run really hot? I can practically cook a meal over mine's PS.
I saved most of the snail-o-grams I liked but if anyone's really keen on seeing 'the best of snailie' they'd only have to select the 'archived messages' from the top of this menu.
For my current editing set-ups, I use a/v composite (aka RCA) connections between the S-VHS source deck and the superbeta hi-fi editing deck. Would it enhance the y/c and picture sharpness coming into the superbeta hi-fi video line-in if I get one of those newfangled hybrid video cables with a S-Video connection on one end and an RCA composite connection in the other end and use this hybrid cable between the S-VHS source deck and the superbeta hi-fi edit deck? Does this type of hybrid S-Video/composite cable enhance the picture in any way, or is it only an adapter that does nothing to increase the quality of the picture at the beta end. Any info appreciated. Howard
Short answer: NO
The reason that S-connectors give better pictures is that they separate the video and chroma signals, instead of using a composite signal, allowing the video signal to have a wider bandwidth. When you recombine those with one of these combo cables, you lose that additional bandwidth (they would of necessity have to roll off the high end of the video signal to keep the chroma from interfering with it (moire pattern).
Thanks, Brenda. Your answer is pretty much what I expect, based on my (limited) knowledge and understanding of a/v technology, but I was hoping (against hope) that I was wrong; thanks for your input! Howard
RadioShack sells a few of those "switch-boxes" to increase your TV's video inputs. Several of them have built-in "composite-to-S-Video" conversion. But the specs for all of them say that the output is still compsite-quality. Makes me wonder why they bother. I've never seen a TV with just S-video inputs.
Now, I think it'd be awesome to somehow find the chroma & luma I/O's on the circuit boards of a couple of superbeta decks and bring them out to S-video jacks. That'd prolly make for even better (kick-@&*) DVD dupes! Could that be done if I had the serv/ops manuals?
BTW: Has anyone else gotten any more spam for those Nigerian bank scams? Time to change my alias I think! ¶¦¬þ
Bought me a SL-HF900 from a guy in Houston via EBay. Looking for a manual, can't seem to find any on the net.Any Suggestions?ThanksPhil
In regard to "Madness," yes, in the past three months I have recieved three African bank scandal emails. One was from Cote D'Ivorie and the other from Zimbabwe. I had a friend who nearly fell for their ploy about a year ago. People do fall for these. Spread the word to your friends and family of these scams, so they will not lose any money.

I have some questions I know some of you will love to answer...
When was the first Beta Hi-Fi introduced? SuperBeta?
What was the last feature film to be video-released on Betamax? What year?
Since Sony discontinued American Betas in 1993, has anyone (or any group) put serious pressure on a manufacturer to make consumer Betamaxes for North America/United Kingdom?
Your knowledge is appreciated.-Jesse England
Gee, only three??? I get that many a day here.. they all go right back to the sender via Mailwasher.. :)
Jesse: I can answer some of those: The first beta-hifi deck was the Sony SL-5200 released in 1983 (US anyhow, they may've been prototypes of some kind in Japan prior). The first Superbeta was the SL-HF400 (1985).
As for last prerecorded, up until a short while ago, I had thought it was The Lion King (1993) until I saw a copy of Pocahontas on eBay. That would push it to '95. Disney was the last studio to stop making betas.
Actually, the SL-HF2000 was introduced in '93 and discontinued around late '97. As for "new" machines, I think some of us have been begging Sony to either design some new US betas or redo the latest Japanese model (SL-200D), which, to the best of knowlwdge is still being sold new in Japan! However, we've gotten little more than the silent treatment.
Maybe someone with an actual knowledge of cgi and/or Java could put together a petition, and all of us could drum up signatures.. maybe a few thousand sigs would get Sony to listen. (Or, alternately, Sanyo)... worth a shot, for my money anyway.. :)
damn it! stupid Internet explorer erased my whole post. I basically said I wanted a beta that looked like an SLO-1800 (or a smaller version of the BVU-800 ). I also said if sony makes new betas they will be terribly expensive (80s prices for 80s technology :D $1000 or more). grrr... maybe while we're at it we can get them to make betamies and NP-11s again. :D
and I'll be trying to sleech them all!! ________@¼¼ [O¼¼¼¼==] ¼¼@__________
Before anyone starts accusing me of the post that is a few up from this one, and says how childish you all are with these crappy ASCII images. I can do nothing but agree with whoever put it there.
Six months ago, and years before that, this chat page was a technical forum for people with betas that needed problems solving, or alternatively, people offering advice.
I checked the page a few months ago, and found all this crap about your so called snail. Who cares?? So what??
I don't want to have to trawl through countless nonsense posts, by the small group of people who must spend the best part of most days on this page.
I check this page to see if there's anyone looking for advice as to how to get their beta working again, not to look at stupid ASCII icons.

OK Franny we get the idea. Nobody here likes Snailing much, in fact if I were him I'd be fearing for my safety. Yes I recall getting a spam note from a Cote D'Ivoire awhile back.

sure make you want to buy a Beta doesn't it, you guys?
I"M BACK!
Here I am, back from Hawaii, and all I found out was that A beta tapes costs a dollar and 6 more than on the mainland! I wnet to the worlds largest flea market, and it was all clothes! Damnation! No betas in sight or even a hint of electronics! Ah well, it was a fun time, and I WILL be gonig back next year and I plan to hit TV stores and whatnot. As to the other posts:
Yes, Sony Should bring Back Beta, any (Good) Beta, we don't care...
Let's Keep the Snailies, they ad to the flavor... As long as we don't ignore legitmate questions and such...
Let's get rid of the spam-ads...
Enough of the critiscizing (Boy did I misspell that word!) and such, it doesn't ad ANYTHING!
Sean
Get a squint at any of the tropical Betas that dot the islands by any chance?
Sadly, no. I expected to see some Japanese tourists with Betamovies but they all had TIny camcorders small than my big ol' Nikkormat (A Nikon Sub-brand) still camera! LIke I said, the world's largest flea market was undeniably dissapointing!
Does nobody like me?
I come back and start posting, and now, nothing!
God franny... How long did that take to post? sleeeeeeeeeechhhhhh
sleeeeeeech!___________@_¼¼- we still like you!
Oh goody!I'm glad.I got a bunch of stuff in the mail... None of it Beta... I'll list but not describe...Sony CVM-1100... A B&W monitor with built in TV tuner... Yes, that sorta makes it a TV.A Panasonic NV-9400 Umatic... POrtable, heavy as anything... If anyone has leads on the small tapes,I would be happy.

Snailie lugging portable VCR and camera...Sean.
GROß GOTT! Es ist ein Schneckeblitzkrieg!!!
New potential mother lode for old NTSC betas!!!!!!!
E-mail me for details-I don't want the gastropods to have a feeding frenzy!
1 caveat-most of the stuff is in need of repairs of some kind...but they're CHEAP!!!!!!!(and there's a bunch at a time...)

Overpriced betamax with free porn! Not the first I've seen with free porn...I once read the downfall of beta to be the inavalability of porn, believe it or not... Anyhow, I would think porn would only push beta onward, since they performed admirably under such condtitions as Macrovision and copyguard (which are actually two distinct systems) and would promote the use of beta... Also, the same thing that lets you beat macrovision lets you record a signal from a B&W camera, something even commercial VHS decks can't do!

I love Engrish.

It's been awfully quiet in here today.. :( Where is everyone?
They're probably trying to weed their way through that web site I told you about last night...:-)
I was at this Japanese Beta site... http://member.nifty.ne.jp/jp1nom/betamax/#99
according to the Babelfish translation it seems this fellow modified his SL-3100 to be able to record in the BIs SuperHiBand mode...
Now if Andy could just figure out if an SL-HF 300 can be "Supersized"
I have several NTSC beta machines, mostly highend Sony's. I have always been pretty good at diagnosing mechanical problems in these, though I have no actual service experience ...just a pretty good amateur. But now I have an opportunity to buy a used 60MHZ oscilloscope. Would that be a good one for performing the electrical alignment procedures in the service manuals? If not, what kind would be?
I recently purchased a SL-HF840D. I have no manual or remote. I would like to find out the model number of the remote control that would have come with this unit if anyone knows.
Does anyone know whether or which Beta models, Sony or otherwise, can tune the full band of cable channels like the 2710 can? Thanks.
Regarding the remote for the 840-D, it's the old give a man a fish/teach a man to fish thing:

Shut your face and leave Franny alone. The owners of this board probably happen to find her entertaining, as I (and I'm sure some if not most of us) do. Go away.. I think I speak for everyone when I say we're tired of people like you ragging on us.
Yes, I expected that response from you two invertebrates. You've nothing to contribute here either, other than insipid opinions and mutual ass-kissing.
Fancy you should talk! you've done NOTHING but put people down and make threats. HA!

Newbie-
What exactly is your point?
Would you rather read spam mass mailings on the board, or have someone do something so the rest of us don't have to see it?
Sorry, but at this point, her contributions to the board have been a lot more positive than yours. Don't like the message? Start your own board...or at least discuss SOMETHING involving Beta so that we can see you're not just a troll (or would it be snail?) looking to start some sh*t.
I'd rather see her renditions of snails than read your sanctimonious bullsh*t.
At least her snails like Beta...
Well we can see what a stellar character 'Newbie' is. It seems that while he doesn't have the stones to post here under his own name and address he more than happy to post under my name and address at some depression newsgroup (alt.support.depression) and now I'm getting e-mails from other users of that site. Hope you slip on a snail trail and die.

This is probably at least two times overpriced, but I would like to know, is that plate, a sort of wimpy shoulder-pod, any kind of factory or Sony Acessory? I have a Quasar VHSmovie (Yes, they called it that, a blatant ripoff of Betamovie) that has one that is decidedly original, but i do not know if SOny ever did have those...
Speaking of which, I was comparing the VHS and Beta "movies" one day, (Mine sold side-by-side in a catalog with the BMC-220), and this is one of the places where the diferences between the VHS and Beta are not as clear cut as on the decks. The VHS machine is big, bulky, chews through batteries, and records for a maximum of two hours... It cannot use longer tapes because it is an SP-only machine, even in playback. The Betamax of course HAS no playback, but by the time the VHS movie was released, you would practically have to buy a regular VCR anyway, since there were LP and SLP speeds then, and yes, I have seen pre-recorded tapes relased at those speeds! So the VCR functions of the VHS movie are nominally useful for spot playback and as a traveling machine, while the beta wins out in general due to lighness, and longer recording time.
Wee, that was long!
Sean
