It's lame enough that you don't have the courage of whatever convictions you have to expose yourself to the same treatment you chose to mete out to other but people on those support sites sure as hell don't need to be dragged into your sick and demented games. Do the world a favour and 'french' kiss a light switch and put yourself out of our misery.

I semed to have missed ALL the betas in HI, I spent most of my time "vacationing" and eating LOTS of seafood. I figured I could haul away halfadozen betas from the World's Largest Fleamarket that takes place in the stadium, but, guess what, it was mostly Hawaiin clothes! Some other neat stuff, but not much! Spent an hour or two doing nothing but spending $5 on a laser pointer.... So, I WILL be gon back, and I WILL hit thrift stores and TV shops, and I will do my best to haul away every beta I can! Stuff I don't need will be snagged for sale here at a reasonable rate. I will take ALL I can carry!

My bro was in the Navy and stationed at Pearl Harbor (of all places!) a fews ago. So, I had him hunt me down some betas whilest on leave. That's where I got my Betamovie 550.

Oh, I think it's time I made a trip there, too! I might pick up some betas -- and a bronzed beach/surfer boy! ;)

I just looked at the archived pages. There was a few posts which benefited betamax a great deal by "Franny", for those of you wet behind the ears, I mean that with great sarcasm.

This used to be such a good resource when it was a PAL site, now its diving into the murky depths, as a few younger collectors are using it as their personal IRC channel. Please move to another chat page you mob. Thats sean jesse franny madness phil and the ever so wonderful dual personality of Andy, no I mean Brenda.

Trollomatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that this chat-page can be a place where we can meet and discuss things, tell our "betalive" anecdotes, ask for technical help, show interesting ebay betas, and also talk about other themes which aren't so close to beta but are common to us (or some of us)

I think it's getting near the day this chat-page will have to use password to post messages (with the author's IPs and e-m@ils registered) because the people who are in this site want to have a "peaceful and enjoying chat, with trollomatics away.

Let's protect this site of trollomatics!!!

Oh and if someone wants to use my identity there's a "watermark" that shows that it's me. Have it in mind trollomatics! jejeje

Well I suppose I should be grateful I wasn't caught up in the Troll net...

But let's see who's more a benefit to PALsite...

Someone who posts a few cutesey 'Snail-o-grams' to liven up a chatpage which otherwise would be limited to starchy posts like "I need a Beta - where can I get one?" or "my beta is busted" or "I got this beta stuff for sale" or the "Where can I get that adapter to let me play my Beta tapes on my VHS machine?" - but also makes spare parts and other help available to beta users behind the scenes - even buying a Beta for one user who'd lost theirs recently. When she lost her camera no-one offered her any aid, now did they?

Or someone so snivellingly petty they make posts at a depression support group using someone elses username and E-mail address in order to make trouble for that user. Who offers absolutely nothing but frothing bile, threats and innuendo.

Come to think of it, I remember getting a few snotty e-mails from some whiney Australian 'bloke' that sound a lot like the Troll now infecting this page...

I agree wtih Olive.

Even you trolls don't make sense any more. A while ago you came accusing us of being "Eliteists" and not wanting other people to post, complaining that this was a public forum, and, well, it is, so, now, you call for the removal of members who are productive and interesting, when, to be honest, you spend time here only to put us down, why should you CARE who posts here? It seems we beat you at one game, so now you have come back with another. Either add something funny, helpful, informative, or nice, or you are being nothing more than a degenerate who enjoys seeing the reactions of people he picks on, no better than a 7th grade bully starting food fights. You push any hotbutton you can, go against the flow, no matter what it is, just because you can.

Well, Mr. Troll has it partly right. Andy and I have a few things in common. Our love of Betas, we're both technicians (I only WISH I was known to be one of the best Beta techs in the US), but I am a broadcast engineer (now), and we both do what we can to help others. However, unless someone has invented a transporter when nobody was looking, we are not the same person. We are something like 10,000 miles distant from each other. I live in Korea (see the e-mail?) You can look up my IP if you like, as well... 211.195.69.95 (this one's only good till I reboot, of course, our ADSL does not assign static IP's).

Anyway.. I LIKE the people here. It's nice to see a place where, up to now, was peaceful and friendly.

Take care, all, and stay well. :)

At that price, it is just reaching the outside of what I would call "Good". the 30F has NO tuner, timer, OR remote, and unlike the other, cooler industrials, like the GCS-50, SLO-420, and the whole 3xx series except the 340, it cannot take commone remotes, no 20/33pin interface, no controll L or S, no infrared, just what I think is an RS-422 connection. AND it records ONLY BII.

"S" means a southamerican model. That is the only one I have seen. The SL-S600 (Sold in the states) was the other 15th aniversary model to compliment the 2100. For some reason, the 9000 was the 10th anniversary model but that doesn't seem to affect its selling price, while the 2100, being clearly inferior to the 1000, regularly sells for more, dispite being coutnerintuitive, and possibly macrovision-enabled!

I've seen couple other SL-S "South American" models besides the SLS-600 on E-bay like an SL-S480 and SL-S500. I wonder if some are Mexican Beta bought on vacation or for use by expatriate Americans. I know somebody with an SL-S600 and he reports that it seems to have Macrovision 'issues'...

Sorry you didn't have any luck at the flea markets in Hawaii, Sean. I had better luck at a flea market today in the Badger State. A Sanyo VCR-4027 Superbeta and VCR-4650 regular Betacord, plus one prerecorded L-370 tape with a Disney Robin Hood cartoon movie, all for a grand total of $15. Both VCR's work beautifully. I confine my Beta search to flea markets, garage sales and secondhand stores because from all you guys have b****ed about Snailing Ebay sounds like one big ripoff fest. I like to get a chance to check out the goods first, plus people who'll sell their Betas at flea markets, garage sales and secondhand stores don't know what they've got their hands on so they're CHEAP! :). Now my Beta collection is as follows: (1)Sony SL-HF600 with original RMT-133 remote, box, instructions and a couple of Sony pamplets that came with it, (1)Sanyo VCR-4030 with original remote, box and instructions, (1)Sanyo VCR-4027, (1)Sanyo VCR-4650, (1)Solidex 829 rewinder, (102)L-750 cassettes of various brands, (5)prerecorded cassettes. How about everybody post your current Beta collection on here, I'd like to hear what Beta equipment all you people-Olive, Franny, Sean, etc are using.

Sony SL-HF-900 (Out for repairs, Andy's doing them)

Sony SL-HF-600

Sony SL-340 (VERY bad off, going to be scrapped or sent to Andy for whatever he can make of it.

Sony SL-20 w/orriginal remote

Sony SLO-340 (Actually I have two of these, one inoperable and the other from Andy, still at his place, waiting for belts. Will consider offers on the inoperable one.)

Sony GCS-1 w/tripple charger, power supply, 3 batteries, and hardshell case added by previous owner.

I've worked my way up...Started with an SL-HFR70 and a hi-fi processor (I think it was the 200. ..), went through an SL-HF400, an NEC hifi machine, an SL-HFT7, and now am th eproud owner of an SL-HF1000. I'm looking for a good hi-fi editing deck to go with it, thus my interest in that SL-HF900 that just sold on eBay. I've got one problem, though...I'm cheap as hell. I won't buy a machine unless I get it for a great price. For example-I bought my 1000, in the original box (but no remote) from the original owner for $300 this year. It needed $60 worth of repairs...I still came out pretty good...

ewwwwwwwwwwww! I just tried recording Pearl Harbour from my idiot DVD player on my SL-HF300. Gross! There's rainbow streaks everywhere in BIII and not so many in BI. No matter if hifi is on or off. On the SLS-600, in any mode while Super is on, it only records B/W. With Super off in BIII, it records non-moving horizontial rainbow lines. In BII, the lines get farther apart. Why does Microvision affect my betas? The VeHoS records flawlessly from DVD! But interesting thing is, the SL-2000 will record rainbow-streak free, but if you play back its tape on any of my other betas, you see the streaks (and if you play on SLS-600 the streaks become visible on the SL-2000 afterwards). Another interesting thing, they will record the Y signal off of DVD player (B/W video) with no Macrivisin issues. But I dont want to watch Pearl Harbour in B/W... :(:(:(:( Anyone got a free TBC? :D

To B2: Most South American countries are NTSC, although one or two countries use SECAM (including Venezuela, I believe), and a couple of the countries there use PAL (including Chile, I believe). Sony occasionally sells a model aimed for one market in another market, if it believes there is a profit to be made. The SL-S600 was probably aimed for the South American NTSC market when the decision was made to also sell it in North America because there was still a demand for a NTSC mono beta model in that market in 1990. The same thing was probably also true with the SL-S2000, which was aimed for the South American PAL market when the decision was made to also make it available in the AustralAsia PAL market due to a demand there. The model Sean was talking about is the North American NTSC ED-Beta EDW-30F industrial ED-Beta editor; the model you are probably referring to is the PAL SL-F30 mono beta deck; two entirely different models, as you mentioned. The EDW-30F has Control L, S, a rear jack 15 odd pin jack for remote. It also can be modified to receive infared remote signals via standard Sony VTR 1,2 . The VCR also has a built in record timer if you utilize the appropriate Sony remote with timer set functions (I.E SL-HF1000 EDV-9500, SL-HF2000, etc) . Its a great unit , and it can record BIII if you get creative (I have done videoinsert over BIII recordings on the EDW-30F successfully) . I'd almost speculate it may be able to straight BIII recording with the right Sony remote , that offers tape speed function. Its a great unit, and has all the features of the 9500 , minus the tuner and remote function. The EDW-30F is definately not a crippled unit. That's all I wanted to say. I use one extensively myself, and its a great unit that goes for well less than the 9300 /9500. Andy

P.S. Brenda , the remote/capstan is here. I am currently looking at the remote haven't quite made what to think of it yet.

Interesting things happen when the door is closed. Personally, I was appalled by Collector's posting about chatting. I think we've about hit almost everything there is to hit avout betamax. Imean, I could be wrong, but, with all the back archives, we've been able to preserve our beta knowledge for future generations, and besides, when there is a cheap DVD Recorder on the market, where are we going to use our beta's anymore? (Sorry, Hate to say I said so) But personally, being the (PROBABLY) youngest member of the chat page, I know I'll keep beta alive when it's all but gone. Hopefully, others will do their part. I haven't counted lately but I'd estimate that I have about 500 prerecorded tapes picked up from various sources (eBay, video store buyouts, flea markets, Goodwill, givens, etc.). Madness: It's an SVHS deck, you can just see it on the cassette door. it's NOT a VHS deck like the title says. I don't really have use for an MII deck, if I got an industrail (Actually I have 5 industrials, (3 in the mail), but htey are all Umatics, if I upgrade, it will be, of course, to Betacam. I did something I said I never would, I got a deck with XLR audio conectors, I will have to get adapters. But this way I can free up my much touted SVO-140 for use someplace else where a mono would be better suited, because it is not needed.

I just hope that someone hasn't made it 120V only and then plugged it into 220V. Here in Korea, it's not a problem (wouldn't really be in the states, either) to run anything off either 120V or 220-240V. Our apartment is wired for 220, but I have a separate isolated system wired in here for 120. :)

Well my beta collection is pretty modest...

An SL-2000/TT-2000/HVC-2500 set with the VMC-220A A/V cable and three of the AC-220 power bricks (one is a Zenith clone and one has been modified to power the HVC-2500 camera.

I have the SL-HF 300 and an SL-HF 360 and an SL-5400 that mostly sits under the bed (next to an old Penisonic 4-head I keep for dubbing purposes) and doesn't really see much use. I also have a BMC-220 camera that for the time being is housed in a BMC-110's silver garb... http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/a78f28e7/bc/Olive+Garden+of+Earthly+Delights/Silver_BMC-220.jpg?bcUAok9AGgPRa2aM

My collection of prerecorded movies while modest has grown quite a bit and now stands at about 26 titles about equal to what I have in VHS prerecorded titles. Some E-bay purchases yet to be delivered will actually surpass the VHS total...

In total I think I have about 350 individual §eta tapes including prerecorded movies...

I think that is one of the few Zenith VCRs that is not worth the powder to blow it to hell. If my memory serves Zenith deliberately hamstrung it by making it BIII record only!

They matched a series of XBR monitors. The speakers to one (Which, for some reason almost always are sepereated from the unit...) are up now. I think, actually, if you had the appropriate XBR, you wouldn't mind! I got such a good deal on that JVC, I asked VCRGary about it, he said the last one he had went for $600... I am tempted to sell it away to get an SL-HF-750. I will see what it does first and if I like it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1376347421I realize that I'm doing some shameless bragging, but I believe someone was wondering about my newly aquired JVC machine. Take a look at this. Not quite a match for the SL-HF-1000 but it has a few more broadcast-type features, something that Beta or Even ED-Beta never ventured into (Although ED beta would have made a bettter broadcast format than 1" "C", I think SOME people used it for that!)

Hi

I have full Sony service manuals for the SL-3000, TT -3000, HVC-2000 (?) and SL-8000 (I think). But what I want at the moment is sight of a user manual for an SL-F1 and a TT -F1 (although the TT -F1 seems a pretty simple creature ...)

Ah, Now I do not know what to do. I will not buy new JVC gear, new RCA Gear, and, now, if I choose to boycot Sony, I don't think there will be anyone left to buy from. There's always Pioneer. Pioneer and Technics.

Guess they will be getting all my bussiness from now on. Of course I will ahve to buy Beta tapes fro Sony... But nothing else.

X-( Sean since u seem so chummy with him (:D) maybe you can ask him how low he'll go for a decent Umatic recorder. And darn the luck, I want a TBC just so I can shred whatever is left of Bitchyvision that screws up my 300. Hehe I also wonder if it will clean up VHS video? Jesse: Never make an absolute. We've seen NIB Betas before, and we will again. For all eternity, there will be people who buy new items, stash them in closets, and prmptly cack off, forget about them, or other circumstances cause them to be left there for someone else to find and put on Ebay. DO NOT get your hopes up, but ther is a SLIM chance that I will have a TBC to sell you. We will see how it goes. The story is this. I bid on one on Ebay, and then promptly found one with a BIN of $50. Of course I snagged it, and now, I am still winning the other one. If I win it, it will go up for sale here, most like under $100.

So I will let you know what happens.

Where would be the best place to look for an instruction manual to my new VCR-4027 and 4650? Does Sanyo still print copies of them? The clock setting and timer record setting was easy enough to figure out, but I can't get those infernal preset controls to work. My 4030 has one dial that you turn to fine tune in the channels (after selecting VL, VHF or UHF with the slider switch)and then you just press MEMORY to set the channel to one of the preset buttons, but both the 4027 and 4650 have instead a little teensy dial, button and knob set for each of the 12 preset channels and I can't figure them out. Playback on both units of tapes recorded by my 4030 and HF600 is great, haven't used the new ones to record anything yet because of the channel problem. The 4650, my first regular Beta, plays Superbeta tapes quite well, with only a slight amount of increased noise. Which brings me to my next question: Can a Superbeta unit with X1 playback (like my HF600) play tapes recorded in B-1s SHB (like by an HF1000 or 2100)if I left the Superbeta swith on? It seems that it should, since the difference between 5.6MHz Superbeta and 6.0MHz SHB is less than that between 4.8 MHz regular beta and 5.6 Superbeta, and Superbeta tapes lookedfine on the regular Beta, but Sony has done some strange things to their machines before.

New to this board. I have both an sl100 and an sl-hf900 (didn't check the machine at home - just based on pictures). Both misbehave. The 100 blanks out in the winter - the clock stops displaying and the tuner won't retain its memory. The 900 is finicky about loading tapes and some tapes simply don't play partway through, but show a picture on FF. The picture quality on the 900 is also worse than even the VHS I have. I took the 900 in to be cleaned and fixed, but it really isn't much better. Can this be repaired? Could Sony do it at a repair center in Chicago? I see myself transfering my beta tapes to DVD's in the future and I would like the playback to be as good as possible.

Actually, Jesse, If I didn't just blow the last of my free-to-use $$$ in any significant amount, I'd spot ya $50. Sorry, though. Ah well. If you wanted a cool Umatic, find the section of most hardware stores that sells sheetmetal, and drill holes in it and screw it to the Umatic. THAT would make for some cool side panels, and they would deflect smallarms fire! Anyhow, on to something beta, anyone wondering why sony's direct access parts center won't show them parts for their betamovies? (or, "betam'ies" as Jesse calls them ;) well, you have to have the "K" on the end of the model number. such as: BMC-220K. that will do it.

hate to be a dumb A%# amongst the experts, but Id like to throw some questions out to the(beta) world:1) are all the beta formats compatible? i.e. ED & super beta will play regular beta tapes ?? (at "regular" qualities I assume)2) is the "best" way to get hold of a decent beta machine via e-bay? I check u Bid and found nada.3) I read they are stopping production in Japan of beta machines. Since I travel there occasionally, would a new "Japan" machine work in the U.S. (PAL vs. NTSC?)... I am sitting with a broken SL-HF500, and yet to find a local repair shop that will touch it (Stuart, Florida area)... thanks

To Mike: here a quick Boolean that should get you a bumper crop of Betas to bid on...

http://cq-search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?GetResult&query=%28Beta%2CBetamax%2CBetamovie%2CBetacord%2CBetavision&st=0&category1=1497&Top10=&SortProperty=MetaNewSort

With each new advance in the Beta system (BII& BIII speeds, HiFi, HiBand, ED) Sony usually made sure of 'backward compatiblity' with older tape formats so you could play a 1975 tape on a 1988 ED deck (the SL-8600 notwithstanding). Sony also allowed some cross compatiblity between high-end models like adding BIs playablity to models introduced after BIs models like the SL-HF 750 and SL-HF 1000

The last Japanese betas being made are NTSC units (SL-200D and EDV-9000) but there are differences in the Japanese broadcast and power system that require modification to use in the US. If you want someone to look at your beta, Andy Sanchez is known in these parts as the best Beta repairperson around. From the PAL site directory ( http://www.palsite.com/directory.html#usa )

Andy Sanchez Andy's Repair 2308 Haddon Ave, Modesto CA 95354. E-mail: [email protected] Tel: (209) 527-3493 Andy is often able to source hard to find parts (used in most cases).
