stupid JVC and their "VH-" designation.
Pepse I dont really think the cables are different; I use A/v cable all the time for composite myself.
I use unshielded cables all the time, too... however, do so at your own risk... If you get massive interfearance, get some coax video cables and label the "R" "G" and "B"...
To Jesse: composite or component? Composite is the ordinary video. Component video is Y, Cr and Cb (or Y, Pr and Pb) signals. The cable quality may not be so important in case of short cables.
For Jesse Alonzo
Hi,
Also between VHS and VHD is VH- Video Home Minus.
Beta+ is Betaplus like Beta that is superior format forever in the world!
Ok.
colin b juddTry the comparison...like canibal'ing SL HF 77 to SL HF 150
InfraRed Remote for reference Sony RMT 159 can be used with SL HF1000D RMT 713 came along with Video 8 (EV-C45E) RMT 231 / 230 unique'ly control HF 77 / 800 ME
Some modern Remotes has built in Firmware that can be set up by entering special codesto control multi branded apparatus.Pocket Organizer such as Palm OS/ Sony / Compaq Pocket PC/ NEC with small 'RC' program (downloadable over the net) also suitable for IR signals programming.Maybe there are some Programable Remote with EEPROM contains hundreds of other remotes firmware, hopefully user Flashable.Isn't that so great.......
Sergio - Betaplus is the Sony Japan home market trademark for the Beta HiFi-Ready series VCRs marketed there. Was used to designate monaural Beta VCRs that, if you bought the outboard processor Sony made, you could convert to a HiFi VCR.
Erfah! I didn't mean VH minus, I meant VH-, where - could be replaced by a letter, LOL :P

To Boby: Some time ago was manufactured Universal Remote Control called OneForAll that contained a lot of RC codes and was upgradable from manufacturer's home page. IMO the disadvantage of most pre-programmed universal remote controls is that they support only basic functions. If you get the RC's appropriate IC you can make your device to perform hidden functions. Thank you for remote control numbers for SL-800ME. Talking about the use of palmtop PCs as remote controls: it is said that even my HP 200LX (a DOS machine) can be used as remote control.
Hi,
For Franny: I knew the Betaplus that I visited the internet http://www.betamax.to.The vcrs Sony Betaplus (SL-HFR70, HFR60 and HFR30) is very economy and quality in the market japanese because outboard processor Hi-Fi isn't produce never in Europe version PAL for Sony Betamax SL-F30 and SL-F60? It is patience!
For Jesse: I understand and you be right!
Ok.Sergio
Most highly regarded moderator, and other valued contributors, would it be worth designating one day a week to be off-topic day? Perhaps Fridays, when we show up at work/school but our minds are somewhere else. Even eBay is not fully awake on Friday mornings about 9:00 GMT. They are busy scrubbing snail slime off their drives or something. Imagine six days on-topic! Imagine that other day!
Sergio, that Italian remote with codes on a database CD might be better for Beta than those cheap universal RCA jobs. I'll have to get Zia Teresa to translate their website. She's making polenta (corn grits usually with tomato sauce) & salsiccia (spicy homemade sausage) for us tonight.
Hi Nnils,
Thank you.The remote universal and programmable was RCA of the vcr VHS (Panasonic OEM)? VHS is bad-bred and squish!
Sergio.
Hi Nnils,I have already eaten polenta and sausage.
For all Betaphiles, Hi,The website Sony Betamax japanese http://www.betamax.to is closed or cancelled, like never? We are very preoccupare! Help!

He was a class act in an otherwise crass world...
I for one don't like the idea of an "Off-topic" day nor do I think it would be workable... what's a "Day" for us? we're spread out across the globe! (Ahhhh... the wonders of technology) I like the way it is, we can just sort of drift off-topic within the bounds of reason...
Do any of you have favorite Beta tapes you look for in the used-tape market? The Sony high grade seems to be the best choice for new tapes -- I have not had good luck with the new tapes from Radio Shack, but it may have been just one bad batch [or stored in poor conditions]. Anyway, Sony EHG and ES and TDK EHG have been good. Any to avoid? harrym
Well, I'll take a stab at iffy Ebay Beta auctions. Here is one : "Imported" Betamax. Hmm, aren't all Betamaxes Imported? So its a Japanese model. SO what. The Seller says it is "hi-fi" . Look at the back of the unit. MONO Superbeta. Too many bad sellers on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3010520379&category=15099

It is very Monaural ,left side is for video INPUT and Audio in the right side is the opposite.Dont expect a HIFI!!
hello all betaphiles.ive enjoyed beta for years now but i am struggling to get parts so if there anyone with machines that are broke and dont want them or want to sell them i will be more than greatful if you drop me an email uk only please.
Well the seller of that VCR probably mistook 'HiBand' for HiFi and being that was a Japan Home Market VCR with all Japanese labeling calling it an import wouldn't be hyperbole.
An eBayer called 'BluewaterTennisCompany' peddling an old monauralSears/Sanyo clone as a 'HiFi beta' seems far more fraudulant than this fellow...
I've seen that fraudulant fellow before myself. Also it's common to see machines listed as something like "Super Beta VCR!" when it's not a "Superbeta"... That's common enough. The HFR-series are also listed quite frequently as "HiFi" decks althought that's only half a lie...
Oh yeah and the RMT-424 came today... "A piece of Functional technology is a joy forever". This baby is NEW. It's somewhere between an RMT-143 and an RMT-148... Best part is since I now only have a code 2 beta (The 900) I can switch THAT back into code 1 and switch my Sony Pro Deck into code 2 and use this remote on BOTH decks!!! Isn't that a hoot! I was wondering why my 900 had stopped accepting power on commands until I found out the remote was in "TV" mode... that'll do it. Gotta watch that, people.
Pepse: got the tape. Plays beautifully. Had to tweak the tracking a little bit... Recorded on the 750??? Anyway, you should get your tape sometime soon...
Re: Tapes to avoid: The WORST video tape I have ever used, Beta or otherwise, is the Memorex L-750. I have four of them, all from my grandparent's Beta collection. All four of them had only one recording on them when I got them, and those recordings looked pretty crappy. The new recordings I made on them were almost unwatchable. Mucho video noise, picture dropouts, and hifi sound dropouts! These tapes came from a batch of dozens that included Sony, TDK, Scotch, BASF, Polaroid, Kodak, Maxell and others, and the Memorex ones were the only ones that were this bad.
Thanks, Andy. I have not had memorex that I recall, but I had some problem BASF tapes long ago. I also had some Scotch tapes that seemed to squeal on rewinds. I opened the cases and cleaned the backs of the reels with automotive ArmorAll, which seemed to cure the noise. harrym
I can tell the european 8mm video which is simmilar to the hf 1000 is the EV-S850.
Well Andy Im using a Forgetorex L-750 tape its brand new and sealed; provides excellent picture performance. Maybe the ones you got were duds. Oh well.
I agree with Jesse, the Memorex tapes I've used also tend to be good quality and yield acceptable results.
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
Forget-erex tapes smell funny. I have this L-830 that positively REEKS!
Brenda remind me of the final price with shipping for that SL-T50ME. Can you take Western Union money orders? Or do I have to get Postal M/Os?
Olive,
I think I quoted you about $65 for the deck?? Probably be around $100 with shipping, but I'll look into it for you for sure. I can use WU money orders, I just deposit them into my account anyway. :) If I'm remembering wrongly, please let me know, I've encroaching senility.. LOL
I've had the same problem with Scotch tapes. I thought my VCR-4030 had a mouse caught in the tape transport mechanism, until I realized it was happening only with Scotch tapes.BTW...I heard UPS and FedEx are merging...they're calling it FedUp!
Hope the dont FeedUp the front Decks Loading with a smally mouse LOL..........
Betamax says "Burp"... on a similar note, check this out...http://www.snopes.com/photos/pcsnake.asp I have a collection of antique vacuum cleaners and I've been forced to store the tank-types on the end or with the hole plugged up because a mouse made a nice little abode inside one and ruined it entirely...
I had a really bad problem with Sony L-750UHG's, I had 2 that I bought at different places and they both made my HF300 and HF400 need a head cleaner tape run through them after use. Horrible tapes
NEW UHGs or old UHGs? I've had some otherwise nice Sony tapes clog up my 900's heads.. but that was because they had been run through a Sanyo that had a RUSTY head drum.
Hrm, well as for universal remotes, I use some of the higher end RadioShack/OneForAll's (I like the little LCD screens on them). They support advanced codes so I can program any function from the original including all the digital functions on my SL-HF860D (which is very helpful since I don't have an original). Plus, many also have a JP1 connection so I can connect them to my PC which makes it much easier to do that stuff. Anyhow, just my two cents.
Boby & ami, I have found that the One for All uni remotes are about the best you can buy. At least US-wise. They are simpler to understand than the majority of universal remotes I've tried over the years. They are the only remote I have seen that includes the code for my Home Cable "C" band satellite reciever and it can control about 98% of the functions.
Bad tapes?? I have never cared about the Rat Shack video tapes period; actually their whole magnetic tape inventory (audio and video----oh wait their 7inch open reel tapes were decent). That's actually been my biggest gripe about Rat Shack and I've been going to R S for about, well, sine it was called Allied. Other than that anything with an uncommon brand name are usually junk. And Sony tapes made in the last 3 years, to me, are no better than R S tapes.
Sean, yeah recorded on my 750 from the 450 with very good quality "Gold" RCA jacks. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the tape. There was one other person that wanted a B1s copy of Pink Floyd at Pompeii, who was it?? After that I'm selling the HF450; no room gotta go. Besides I guess I can't see putting a HI-FI deck in storage. I will hang on to the ratty old Toshi V-M 42.
Later. Pepse.
Pepse,
I might be interested in that 450... it's not like it would take up any extra room here, since I already have a 450 that is out of commission. Would be nice to have a working one, then this one could be a parts machine, stored on top of a cupboard.. :)
Have some great Sony tapes, majority of my tapes are Sony,L750 and L830,run perfectly on my Sony sl-hf100as
i use all original remotes . bought rat shacks 8 in 1 universal learning remote with 5 built in timers many years ago. it handles all functions, but has so many similarly sized buttons that its ergonomically awkward. it will prove to be indespensible for backup sooner or later, i'm sure.
hee hee Brenda theres nothing wrong with hints of senility. At 17 i'm beginning to show some myself; I act like a ditz sometimes LOL! I don't know why but for some reason at certain times of the day I feel all giddy and forget what I was thinking or saying.. LOL! Hee hee My Forgetorex tapes were brand new and seeeeeeallllled LOL.....
and I agree with Sean about the age-changing-according-to-how-you-feel thing. As soon as I wake up I'd be about 1.134x10^1248 and maybe during midday Im around my normal age. :)
Jesse,
I don't have a scientific calculator good to that many exponential powers... but, I don't think the universe is that old.. :)
Fer Cry e Eye! Jesse, that number caused an overflow condition on a farquing TI-89! Fuh... At least I know what you mean... seeing how I got up half an hour ago to go to class... I' night owl, in case you're wondering how I could be so about getting up at 08:50...

rmt-124 for $5 bux start...
Hrm, I bought a bunch of the RS tapes when they were on sale (plus my employee discount) and they've worked well for me. Maybe I'm just lucky?
NO, not just lucky. RS tapes are made by SOny who in turn makes the best tapes (And is one of only two companies making tapes these days, Fujifilm makes 'em too), and, of course, I've had good luck with them too...
Haha, yes. I know that number would cause a overflow on any calculator. I just meant to say that I feel really cruddy when I wake up early in the morning. I hate that original remote for the sleech-300. I like the little silver one with the hand-cord, I think it is the one that goes to the SL-2000.
No, that silver one goes with the SL-2001. I know because I have it. I love wired remotes, no batteries and they are light... well, of course I love my RMT-424, also... And actually, that little corded job might also go to the 2000, but I can tell you soon since I now have THIS: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4690&item=2913525630&rd=1 Which, sadly, is the only item I won out of the massive lot this guy had...
Ah yes..."senior moments" at 17...been there, done that. Too often. I have 2 Sony L-750UHG tapes and both of them are pretty lousy, quite a bit of noise, but not as much as the Memorexits.
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
The remote you have Jesse went to either the SL-5100/5101/5200 series or the SL-2400 series VCRs.
I didn't mean to say that my remote was corded. What I meant was that it has a little loop of black string, kinda like one from a cheap 35mm camera that can go around your wrist.
Oh, yeah, that one... The 2400-series machiens and so on had those... I've got one but I hated the cord and took it off... now I can't find it.

_@_¼¼ - you see why so many are on offer?
"Condition: This is brand new and in the box. We received a great deal on these as they were on a truck that was seized by law enforcement. Each box has been opened to ensure there was no contraband inside."
that 'war on terror' will leave no Beta rewinder unturned. I wonder if they thought there was something suspicious about a truckload of Beta rewinders? "Hey wait a minute! Who buys Beta rewinders anymore?"
_@_¼¼ - you suppose this is one of those 'lemonade' betas?
http://www.telusplanet.net/public/rouben/beta%20sanyo
Sanyo called their Betas "Betacords"...
Didn't Sears have use of the "Betavision" moniker? Perhaps Sanyo got stuck with a lot of returns when Sears quit selling Betas?
All I can say is "What the #~(#, over?" siezed by law enforcement??? Truck of beta rewinders? Why is it always rewinders, or other stuff like that... why no truckload of SL-HF-900s? Wharehouse of SL-HF-870Ds? Cargo-Ship container of SL-HF-1000s? rotten rewinders... oh well..
OMG! Now there's a huge laugh!! "Smokies confiscate truckload of boxed beta videocasette rewinders believing there to be contraband items inside the boxes!" "'Well, we had to check,' says one officer as he munches on a jelly donut. 'Who would buy a truckload of beta rewinders?!!'"
So now if it had been, say, a rig full of HF750's, would all the "snails-in-blue" come out of the woodwork and snag 'em all before anyone could sell 'em??? ;)

Too late! I already ordered one. It looks sort of like the Kinyo model I am using, which no longer ejects the cassettes but otherwise works. I wanted the two-way feature, since I like to fast forward to the end of the tape when recycling/erasing tapes. What is the problem with this machine? harrym
Can anyone tell me if the Sony BE-V50 rewinder will wind in both directions? harrym
To:Harry try replace the rubber belt ;surely it'll works fine....If you like the Fast foward function in KINYO, disassemble the rotor of the motor and turn it upside down then adjust the core.(this is very difficult)Alternatively you can find a Direct Current motor with a transformer of course.Happy hunting.......

There is/was a card that you could get that would convert compy signals to video line-in so you could disgorge the contents of your hard drive to a VCR. Sorta like those old-timey computers that run off a cassette recorder...
I got the Mustang rewinder today, but it won't work. It will turn slowly without a cassette in it, but it won't wind a cassette. I have contacted the seller, but there hasn't been time for her to get back to me yet. harrym
The seller of the Mustang rewinder got right back to me and offered a full refund. I am sending her a Beta tape [she asked for] so she can check the rest of them. She seems eager to resolve the issue. harrym
I hope you jsut didn't get taken for a ride for one Betamax tape...
It's an old tape that was in the discard box, but it will work to check the rewinders. harrym
Clever man, you are... "Mustang II"... he he he... ford did certainly make a lot of cars named "II"... Mustang II, LTD II, Bronco II, am I missing any?
Boby, reading back abit: Your question about using a vcr to backup a computer. Yes, there is a device to do that called the Backer32. It works pretty much in the same way as PCM recording. I got one of those out of curiosity for $5 US off eBay awhile back. It's that black almost dogbone-shaped thing that connects to a parallel port and then to the video I/O jacks of a vcr (can be any format; ntsc or pal). The software included then backs up to the vcr (but it has to manually be put into record). Only problem is that the maker never made software/drivers for Windows NT+. So it'll only work from DOS-WinME. Also, it, of course, has to backup in real time. So a 2-3hour beta backup will take that long! Here's some info on it: http://www.viscountvideo.com/danmere.htm
Hey everyone,
I own an old BII SL-3000 with matching camera and power adaptor. The camera works beautifully. The vcr, however, does not advance the tape. It only fast forwards and rewinds. Also, I don't think the head drum is turning. Does anyone care to trade the whole package for a working Sony BII/BIII machine? I know there are some collectors that have piles of decent mono machines sitting around, and would love to restore a vintage unit like this. It includes a car power adaptor, dubbing cables, original manuals (including a cardstock "quick start" guide) along with old, unused tape labels. The best offer will win the package. Email me (omit spamstop) for more info and pictures.
Also, I just found some old Beta tapes today, with one marked "20/20 3-9-77."

C'mon, Jesse, I bought myself my own pro-cam (the GCS-1) for my birthday last year! OH, anyone have a clue as to why when I power up my 900 to the tuner, there's an odd little line rolling through the picture at intervals? this goes away after perhaps ten minutes of simply being on and then the unit will act normally... and, no, jesse, the 900 is NOT a candidate for donation the the wards home... If you think I'm letting go of a turbocharged 900 you're perhaps crazy... My best guess is that it's just interferance from my uber-long RF chains (not used for recording or serious playback)...
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
I'd need a screen-cap of the problem to know what you're talking about but I do know that if you can sometimes get interference between the tuners of a TV and a VCR if certain channels are tuned between the two even if you are on A/V-in select on the TV. It's still tuned to the last channel you were on...

Re: Tuner issue
Is there any hum in the audio? The rolling bar could be a ground loop issue. I've sure had my share of those. Down with multiple grounds!
Just reread the complaint about it going away after ten minutes. Sounds like a temperature related issue in one of the vcr's. Possibly a bad component or solder joint that somehow works better when up to temperature. Possibly in the PSU or on a board.
Yeah the RF units tend to go all screwy with the years. the RF unit in my SLO-323 was not operable... It's not a hard part to deal with, last I knew, however... Nor do I care, I use the 900 a lot (not just as a VCR but as an RF Modulator/demodulator) so it's on about as often as it's not...
