Hello everyone, I just wanted to say that Sony is really beginning to eliminate parts support on theAmerican Betamaxes. Last week I tried to order a part for a EDV-7500. Sony sent me the wrong part, and in the matter of just one week they have taken off several Betamax model service manuals from theirdatabase. This means, if you are going to order a part for your Betamax (like a videohead) from Sonythey won't be able to pull the part # up no more. This means you have to have the service manual.I wonder how soon the parts themselves will no longer be made available. Anyways, it just seems to bea sad day here for me, because this is the last part of Beta "support" Sony has kept up until now.Without this, alot of the prized SL-HF750, SL-HF900, SL-HF1000's will no longer be useable once thevideoheads or other "wear" components wear out. Just wanted to let everyone know. Also, if anyone has the servicemanual to the EDV-7500 could they email me? I need a part # for the videohead-disc (disk-assy), and completedrum assembly for one I have here. Regards, Andy
All I have to say is....

All that would be neccessary would be to make them see the light... "You partnered with Sony on U-matic and you now own the video world. Sony has good ideas, you need to go with them on this because of the proof of history. If you do not you will engage in a bitter and hard-fought war."
Hi Betaphiles,
Where is http://www.betamax.to?
Help!
Hi,Ihave a dvd, pioneer, plays very good but so do the many once only recorded Beta movies that I have[300]pal videos with some great titles and they play superbly on my Sony beta-hi fi slhf100 in the land of the big px I beleive it is called the 300?
Going from a Bebelfish translation the Betamax.to site owner ran out of money to keep the site going. He'd started taking things off the site but simply couldn't keep it going.
GEe... Which accountant did they use? Arthur Andersen?
colin:i also have pioneer DVD but it cant accept bad discbetter a china clone DVD player ,it plays scrath Disc smoothly.....yet much more cheaper...but i dont buy it heuheuheuanyway How's life in Aussie.goin dandy aint.....?
Making a site sucks quite lots of bucks ,Especially Formal one.Various domain ext priced at various amount.esp .COMtook me 15U$ for a month and 125$ for settlement.not to mention extra charge for extended Traffic ,Page Update and Server Extention , common gateway interface and so on 'n so on....There must be someone/organization to support sites go around the world.
I wish to acquire a Betamax PAL machine. Brand new or in good working order. I am willing to pay reasonable price. I live in London (UK). All replies will be considered.
Colin B Judd...
You play PAL videos on a SL-HF1000 ????????????????
Oh... Sorry... That was a SL-HF100. ..
BTW, about that 900 I wish to give, no, I don't wish to ship it.

Hello,I hope you knowledgeable beta owners can help me! I purchased 10 betacam tapes of ebay that were meant to be the oxide non-sp ones, but they were all betacam sp. I posted a message on the betacam chat pages, and a few people came back saying don't use them, but a few also said that they would work on my beta without damaging the heads, e.g
"Hi You can use the SP Tapes on Your SLHF 950, after taping the Rec protektion tap on the right side. The Picture may have a skight moiree if you playbach on other betamax VTR, the Tape doesent harm the VTR at all Yours Klaus"
I would like to be sure before using these tapes. A kind person on this chat page once stopped me using beta ed tapes. Any help with the sp tapes would be gratefully appreciated. They look so damn nice, I want to use them!
Regards.
Well I've already asked about that, and have been told NOT to. The SP tapes are more abrasive on the heads, and do you really want to replace expensive rare heads on your 950 sooner than you might have to ordinarily? To be safe DO NOT use the SP tapes in ANY beta VCR. Sell your SPs on ebay as "single pass" tapes. LOL! see who buys them.
Thank you Jesse, maybe they should go back on ebay. They only cost a tenner anyway, at the very least I have some nice anti-static cases!

Saw the beta to VHS adaptor mentioned above and it is something designed either to let a VHS camera record on a portable betamax or vice versa, not sure which sicne did not load up all the graphics. Just to make thing interesting Sony used 14 pins for tehir camers while JVC decided to use 10 for theirs.
BTW in the process of moving and discovred among things that I am not using but dont want to throw out a Sanyo built top loading beta VCR which last time I checked did still work. One of their later units. Anyone interested?

_@_¼¼ - meep! been getting some new betagoodies in lately. Got a new ECM-Z200 external zoom mic (came with a BMC-220 camcorder) and will be getting an SL-HFT7

eee! now i'm an indie filmmaker!-_@_¼¼[oo]={
http://mm.dfilm.com/mm2s/mm_route.php?id=908879
I just took out my BMC-220 and worked on it some more... Anyway, when I got it, it wouldn't eject the basket. I opened it up and manually ejected the basket. Found the linkage and found a little post had slipped out of a fork. Put it back andit would then eject the basket again. Put a cassette in and closed it up. Got the "Caution" lamp to illuminate but no other action beyond subsequently ejecting the cassette if I told it to. Was clued in (Either DasImperator or Andy, either one, thanks... I forget...) that it could be the record-protect switch, so I hunted this down with a cheater made from the bottom of a Memorex tape shell. The little thingy that pushed up into the shell is GONE as is a considerable portion of the linkage... I manually tripped the "Tab-is-present" switch and it would then pull in an thread up a normal tape, and, with the usual Betamovie Sturm und drang it would begin to pull tape and act like it was recording... Upon putting the tape in a player, I found out that it had, inexplicably, remained blank... my 900 balked completely at it, acting as if it had no control track whatsoever and displaying only a black screen... this is not the tape or the 900, both were checked and confirmed to be in good working order.
need waywards home for beta.....heueuheueu ,just kidding
Sean :try cleaning the write protect micro switch or casette inside detecttion switchcorrosion made illogical operation, when cleaned usually works fine.further check up cabling connector etc if possible.....
The switch is fine. It will pull tape and do everything except actually put video and audio on the tape...
Hi Franny.......
http://www.khpvideo.at/videobearbeitung.html
why not inspect the write head (magnetic ferro inside the drum)and the current flows related to. Amplification block of the helical coil. ic's voltage supplied. Hall effects. some works to do......and make a wish...
Might just as well pick up a second Betamie and swap parts as needed.
I live on Staten Island N.Y. I have an old portable Sony Betamax. It need repair and I can not find anwhere local to have it fixed. Can anyone help me? Email me if you know of anywhere on Staten Island at: [email protected], John
Since Boby's ideas (like Brendas from Betalore II) are a bit over my head, I think getting a second unit is mandatory, especially since mine is MISSING part of the record-protect switch linkage...
My RCA VJP-900 Portable VHS recorder has a 10-pin "camera" input. I'd like to get a camera for it someday if I can find one. Just for fun, of course, beacause regular VHS sure isn't the way to go for camera mastering. That problem with the horizontal line through the playback picture of my SL-HF600 turned out to be caused by a bad cable. I was/am using a cheap, light A/V cable (like one of the ones that comes with a camcorder) to link it to the TV, and anytime it's touching one of the other cables behind the TV, it causes the line. If I move it so it's not touching any of the other cables the line goes away. Phew. I was afraid there was something wrong with the VCR.
You'll probably want this HVC 14 -> VHS 10 adapter and an HVC camera...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3011751493
The camera that goes to that VCR is probably one of the RCA CC-0xx series... I have the CC-010 which is a nice enough camera inasmuch as it comes with a HUGE lens with automatic Iris and powered Zoom, and a telescopic mic, but the pickup tube in them is so rotten that I can'r really reccomend one... Try to get a chip camera, Hitach made some nice MOS cameras.
Funny, I was using one of those HVC cams along w/ the SL-2000 connected to my 'puter's video capture card as a webcam on Teveo. I was being asked what I was using for a cam since my picture was so clear. So, I went and pointed the cam at the beta deck and that got me a "wow" or a big laugh (in chat) from viewers. Sure beats that crappy Quickcam I got as a freebie from my ISP. But I wonder if the CCD cam would be even better for that purpose?
CCD cams are much better than tube cams for that purpose, amke sure you do not leave a tube cam pointed at a static image for too long otherwise it will burn in... CCD cams do no really burn at all, to the best of my knowledge, and a MOS (Metal oxide Semiconductor? I think...) cam is the same thing but it works backwards, if that makes any sense... since that's the best way I can explain it... BTW CCD stands for "Charged Coupled Device" and yes we know that makes no sense... I've never fired up my HVC-2500 to see if it works. I should one day... tomorrow, perhaps...
Got my SL-HFT7 back from Kaz Sakino at Nippon Video. New reel motor board, reel rotor and pendulum arm assembly, alignment checked with factory test tape, cleaned etc for $135 US plus tax. Among the Sony Factory Service Training Diplomas still on his wall were SL-HFT7, SL-HF750, SL-HF1000 and other Beta HiFi's. Also one entirely in Kanji except the date "1973" and the Roman characters "VTR". This tech seems to have a bit of experience...
Took it home and it worked fine on its own recordings, so I went into my cellar and pulled out Princess Diana's funeral, recorded for me on a mono Sanyo. (I never watched it yet - I was about 100 kms from any paved roads doing geological work when she died). Lots of white flashes and streaks. Sound was VERY watery. Every tape I tried from the cellar was poor (it is dry and warm there and all tapes were stored upright). Most were recorded on various Sanyos but even the old BMC-220 recordings from 1986 and some pre-recorded hifi tapes played badly. New recordings made on expendible parts of these tapes played OK. Was my deck not tolerant of other recorders? Next day had an idea - ran them fast-forward / rewind 3x each since none of those tapes had been inside a VCR for 7-10 years. Played a lot better but I think I'll get a good rewinder and do a special "rewind" marathon once or twice every year from now on (or should I just crank that back-tension control to the max "Heuheuheue").
I mighta used the Betamovie if it were possible to do so. But there was little static imagry on my cam. ;)
Boby,my SL-HF 100as is PAL,same you?regards
eee heee heeeeeeee :) we leave for senior trip this friday. should I get a sun filter so betamie doesn't go blind on the slopes?
What model is he? If Mr. Betamovie is a tube cam, and since there's usually loads of light on ski slopes, I'd reccomend one strongly. Also perhaps buying the biggest (Practical) lens hood the camera store has. Just make sure you take the filter off if you're gonna shoot inside a lot (in regular light) or it might starve for light or get all finiky about the white balance.
canibaling Camera is the easiest way...heuheuheue

Hello! Would anyone know where to get a remote for a SL 330 (ntsc superbeta) I also have a SL 2001 with tuner/timer unit (ntsc 120v)that needs new video heads and a general refurb.FREE to anyone who can pick it up in North London!! Or shall I just bin it?
Eh? What are you doing with NTSC units in London! Anyway, Any sony betamax remote will work for the SL-330 as will any modern sony remote that handles sony code one... Try the usual places that have old remotes along with flea markets and I've heard of these magnificent things in the UK called "Car Boot sales" but I've never known what they are, but I suggest you try those too... The SL-330 was not a spectacular unit that will need some obscure function button on the remotes so any basic or advanced remote will work but you won't get all the features on the advanced one...
Hi..guysI'm looking for DVD copy protection crack.....any help would be splendid.
Erfah! Yes, my Betamie is the tube one. BMC-100. Well should I get a UV filter or a dark tinted one? Someone tell me quick!! so I can go and buy one on ebay.
ennyway, what is the operating temp range for betamie? I wonder if she'll freeze when I take her out on the slopes. Won't the tube be laggy at that low temp? What about her rubber belts? Won't she slow down or something?
I really don't know. The service manual would tell you right on the front, so would the user's manual burried somewhere inside... I looked at the Mavicam's manual, the limits for an MVC-2000 are (Use: 0c to 40c, storage, -20c to 60c) centigrade... I can give Farenheit figgures later if you would like them.
Sore the batteries in your coat pocket inside next to your body so they stay warm... the battery is in the handle so your hand will keep it somehwat warm...
olive_e_thomas@yah¿¿.n¿spam.c¿m
According to my Sony betamie-220 manual, a neutral density filter is required for "snow covered mountains, snow fields, sandy beach, clear day in summer"
Three types are available ND-2, ND-4 & ND-8 which reduce exposure levels by 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 respectively.
The only listed issue with cold temperature operation is the problem of moisture condensation from the change of warm to cold which would activate the DEW lamp. Sony recommends using the Betamovie Jacket in cold areas.
By the way operating a betamie in temperatures above 40¼C (104¼) can cause internal problems with the Auto Focus or Saticonª pickup tube.
Heya! I just got hte Sears ProFormance Beta HiFi... waiting for it to return to Room temp... unfortunately it wansn't packed so hot and it now looks like someone dropped it on the front end... Should work OK, though... Yes Brenda this means you have an RMT-148 on the way... will mail it out tomorrow

Well if theres anything bad about professional equipment it's that it shows all the imperfections in everything. I was just playing a CD on my Denon DCD-1820 (Dienon from now on :P ) and I was really not very much surprised to hear all the background noise, etc on some of the CDs I have. Plus, on CDs from the computer you can hear all the compression (it muddles the high end). I suppose all the 20 bits D/A converter is for is to make you want to go back to tape. :) Anyways, my 300 had only been taping the last 1/2 hour of All my Children, and I thought it was the deck's fault and it was. It had been set 1/2 hour later than the VHS (use busted Spamsung to give Beta stereo audio). LOL!

Well ,we salute the webmaster ,ED betacam player cost around 25 Grand and all of that could buy a new BMW 7 series ....
ED Beta is a different format from Betacam. An ED tape can pack 6 to 9 times as much record time on a Betacam 30 min tape with a 500 line resolution. The last EDV-9000s were only a couple grand or so in price.
gimme 8 k more than the ED cam player and we can go buy a millenia S. :)

Hey,Brenda -Ann,you should have called me,it was me who put it on Ebay, sold next day, regards,
Colin,
I could have bid on it, but I would have only had limited use for it, and didn't want to deny another ßetaphile that could really get good use out of such a good machine. I hope the buyer gets many good years of enjoyment from it. :)
Take care, and stay well.
you mean like me? LOL, what are you two talking about anyway?
Hi,
I have find internet of the VHS standard.
Here, VHS is squish and spy!http://www.vhs-std.com/english/index_e.htm

VHS...come on dont be kidding....Beta is better...but i'm beginning to like VHS tooMay be VHS-C or S-VHS can be as supplementary itermezzo.
Hi I am currently a college student who is writing a paper on the Sony Betamax Case. One portion I need to address is the facts and the rumors that were around during the case. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Hmm.... I really wonder what kind of results I'm going to get when I take Betamie out on the slopes. Has anyone taken theirs out skiing?
All I can say is that with that much light there will be saturation and it will even out any errors and cut down lag... unless you have tube burn and it will bring it out a bit... Use that filter. Your money will be there soon, Jesse. hey, what color is my 300...

Derek-
What are you looking to get out of the GCS-50's? I may be interested in one. Drop me a note via e-mail (just take the "no" and the "spam" out of my address listed above).
Thanks!

I vaguely remember seeing a magazine or book article on early german televsion development. I can't be sure, but it showed a magnetic recorder next to the tv section. Maybe they were able to record the mechanical-scan tv signal on their early reel-to-reel audio recorders. Could this have been the first portapak? Videotape history pages always seem to start with Ampex, but perhaps this item was overlooked...
My good friend Rich Diehl (AKA LabGuy AKA Labmeister) has his page thast deals with lots of early vieocorders including stuff like recording video on machines similar to (or, in a few cases, almost identical to) audio tape decks. Check it out. he doesn't have any in the collection, but several very old and obscure formats are mentioned in the catalog pages:
http://www.labguysworld.com/Cat_LoeweOpta.htm Loewe-opta A.G. is a german firm with a combined TV/recorder.
http://www.labguysworld.com/Cat_Telcan.htm Very early TV-on-audio-tape type machine...
Yes you can record mechanical TV on audio tape. The method for recording the "hobby" mechanical TV that is around today involves modifying one of those insipid Phillips Compact Cassette recorders to run at tripple speed. That is all I know.
I've seen 'labguy's' site and especially liked that Roberts 2 in 1 reel to reel an video-tape recorder. Almost the perfect machine for the early 70s 'babe lair' (like the one in Wayne's World?)
