Hi,
My Sony VP-7000 suddenly won't power up. When I switch it on, I hear and see the motor and red sensor tape path lights energize for a second and then dead.
If I wait for 3 minutes and switch it on again same thing. Motor does about a quarter turn and head moves slightly. For just an instant.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks,
Charlie
I am setting up a PCM system consisting of a Sony PCM-1610 and I am trying to team up the processor with some Umatic machines.
I have a Sony VO-5630 DA that has been modified by Sony for PCM recordings with a 1610: works perfectly
Sony VO-7600 pure NTSC 110V machine: works perfectly
Sony VO-5630, VO-7630 and VP-5040 all have the same effect: recordings are good when played back on the 5630DA or 7600, but on the three multi-standard machines I have a popping sound every say 3 seconds (not during silence) and I see the error correction working at that moment.
Interestingly the same happens on the 5630DA and 7600 when the PCMs video out is not connected to the Umatics video in.
Anyway I heard that for PCM recordings the Umatic machines should have the DOC disabled and the head switch point should appear in the vertical interval.
Is there anyone here who could tel me how? So far I only spotted the DOC trigger pot and if I turn cw the sound mutes, but even when turned fully ccw the error correction is still very active on the 1610.
When it comes to the head switching point I did nothing so far, but I have a scope ready to start and try
Hi everyone

Contact me if interested
Hi, I am well experienced in Umatic and SVHS machines, and have recently acquired a VO9600P Sony machine, that has a TBC switch on the back. I used to own Series V Umatics, so this one suggest it has built in TBC. Can anyone confirm this as the spec at this site does not clarify. It either has or it hasn't.
I want to use for digitising old masters, so tbc USE IS ESSENTIAL FOR ME.
If it doesnt then will have to se my analogue TBC from Electrocraft that also features DUB, but have lost or mislaid my cables.
Need to find out if my TBC can transcode DUD in to YUV out for my capture device at 10 bit
.
If anyone interested I have some Pro SVHS edit VCR's for sale with built in TBC by JVC, also a Panasonic 7500 Edit VCR, recently serviced
also have DUB converter boxes

Hello all,
New here and wanting to sell my Sony items to someone who will give them a proper home. I have a VP-2010 and a VO-4800PS Portable. Let me know if you are interested. Thank you!
Many years ago I was involved in race nights for charity fundraising events (that's where bets are placed on the result of horse races). Races were obtained from various suppliers on PAL 625 BVU tapes and then transferred to 16mm cine etc. I'm wondering if these tapes can be recorded over again and if they have any value. Sorry to sound dim, but I used organistions such as jca tv facilities and Colour Film Services in this regard and I had nothing at all to do with this side of the business.
I recently inherited a Panasonic NV-9240 from a friend. He's still alive, just moving. He lost the power cord and I am trying to fins a replacement. Does anyone know where I can find one or at least know the NEMA configuration on the female end? I am in the USA so I will be operating on 120vac/60hz. Thanks for your help. Bob H.
So I have a Sony Umatic portable vo 8800 recorder player. Haven't used it in years...nut fired it up yesterday and to my suprices it worked perfectly. Today was a completely different story however... Tape loads fine.. when I hit play it starts to wrap around the head and at the last pinite disengages and a red lite starts flashing.... any ideas?
I have some old tapes recorded in U-matic SP60. Need to digitize the content from that tape as I have lost all other formats of that video. Any help or direction is appreciated. Thanks
Hi everyone, newbie here. I was recently donated a box of tapes ranging from the early-late 80s containing footage from a defunct computer animation studio. Unfortunately, as a college student, I don't have the funds to send them off to get digitized professionally, nor do I have the funds to purchase a u-matic deck for myself. I only have access to a 1974 VO-2630 at my university's archeology lab. Until I have access to better equipment, this is what I'll be using to digitize the tapes.
With this in mind, the machine we have has a problem with ejecting. When pressing the eject button, it engages eject mode but the cassette door does not rise. I have taken the machine out of its cabinet for inspection but cannot see the problem. A solenoid does fire and it does make a loud clack sound however the door itself doesn't budge. Has anyone else ran across this issue? I skimmed the service manual and unfortunately couldn't find a diagram in how the eject mechanism works. Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I've been told that "new" U-matic tape would come out of the factory with defects, such as dropouts. I've also been told that tape manufacturers would give clients info on how many droputs per minute to expect on "fresh" tape, but I can't seem to find anything online.
Does anyone have that kind of info?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello. I am trying to capture some high band tapes on a recently bought vo-9600p. Everything seems to be working fine exept the colors are all washed out like purple, yellow, bright. I tried to capture 1 min and in resolve I have to adjust the Hue-color setting all the way to the end of the scale. Then the colors actually looks normal but they are still really bright. Could thia be something on the color boards inside the machine or is it just bad tapes?
Hello everyone!
New to the world of U-Matic. I more-or-less inherited something like 350 or so (maybe more) old magnetic tapes. Some audio, most video. We are talking Sony Helical Scan, various U-Matic (all 3 sizes), Betacam, Betmax, and even some 1" Type C and 2 " tapes that I need to figure out what to do with.
I'm cleaning the tapes and getting them play ready. Think is the only playback deck I for the U-Matic tapes is a Sony VP-7020. I've been deep-diving and learning and from what I can tell it seems like the VP-7020 CAN play the SP tapes, but in order for me to do it I would need an adapter to load the smaller format cassette into the larger size properly.
Some of these tapes have potentially amazing historic value, but frankly I don't have the capital to send them off to be handled properly so I have to bootstrap. As an example the first one I cleaned and am looking to review is labeled "Nelson Mandela, Atlanta, 1990" which is indeed the first time Mandela came to the states after getting out of prison.
Anyways, can someone let me know if my intel on the U-matic situation is correct? IF so, I would greatly appreciate someone giving me a line on an adapter I can buy that would work for me. I've been looking everywhere online and just can't find one.
Best,
CK
