Description

This is an SL-F1 ribbon connector used to join together the printer circuit boards in this portable.

Symptoms

Over time, this ribbon connector is prone to fracture causing erratic behaviour of the VCR. Symptoms include random operation of machine functions or loss of audio.

Fixing

If only one or two of the cores in this ribbon can be identified as being open circuit then it possible to bridge them with a small signal wire. Care should be taken not to fracture further cores whilst attempting to fix it. The best solution is to replace the complete ribbon. This involves removing the plastic hinges which hold the PCBs together.
