VCR 5000

Hello,

just turning back to the mysterious "VCR5000" dual use (SP/LP) VCR.These machines did exist - here in Germany, some "Landesbildstellen"had these VCRS. They were extremely expensive, a former offical told me,that they had a hefty price tag " around 10 000 DM ". But money was no matter instate dept. in the Germany of the 70s ( they bought thousands of Telefunken Bildplattenspieler for schools, museums and hospitals ), so they bought one in some Landesbildstellen. Here in my hometown, this VCR broke down in the early 90s,and because nobody could repair it, they throw it away to the trash. (!!!!)Our Landesbildstelle still has dozens and dozens of VCR I or II movies, even originals,like "Birds in spring" or " Peasants are baking bread " ( real thrillers ;-),but they have no VCRs to play them. So they were really interested that I have functionalVCR N1500 and N1702.

The VCR5000 was offered only to universities, schools, archives etc.because it was so expensive. So thats the reason, that it isnt included in the consumer catalogs I have.

As I looked at the original VCR tapes. I can remember, that the first videostoresin the mid 70s here in Germany, had tons of VCR, especially VCR-LP tapes.On fleamarkets etc, I see many betamax originals from the late 70s, evenbins upon bins of Super-8, but I only found 2 VCR-LP originals (Elvis) inten years ! Why are they soo extremely rare, much rarer than the VCRs ?

Hello, and greetings from Finland! Does anybody have schematics or service manual of Philips VR 2840? The problem in my machine is that when switched on, display flashes quickly, and then the recorder will shut off. Capstan motor still running after shut-off. I need some help to transfer a german video to VHS (U.K version)

The german video I have says Video 2000 on the label and by the looks of the tape it plays on both sides.

I think its VCC 240

it was produced in 1987 in germany.

Anybody from the NortWest does this sort of job ??

Hi,Does anyone on this page have technical knowledge of V2000 decks. I have a fault on the PSU of my late model Grundig 2X8 machine. Some of the 12v/5v rails are low or absent, is this a common fault? I need to get it running to dub late 70's/ early 80's tapes to DVD or DVCAM. Thanks.

Hi, I have a N1500 with a failed capstan servo that forces the eddy current brake to be on all the way and slowing down the tape too much as soon as the tape sync head picks up something, the motor actually overheats due to excessive braking, Any help appreciated

El problema que tiene el video es el siguiente:

Al enchufarlo a la red no se enciende nada y solo gira el motor de cabezas (Cabezal), no hay ningun fusible fundido y ha simple vista no hay nada roto, alguien sabe por estas anomalias a que puede ser debido , y ¿como se puede arreglar?

I was wondering if anyone here has ever seen Monty Python on video 2000.

Why? Well I am a fan and I noticed that due to it being around in the early eighties it came out on literally all possible media (CED betamax laserdisc vcd cdi 8mm film super8 film and super8 tape). Except that I never found any official vcc 2000 for monty python, life of brian, holy grail, how to irritate people, etc. So if anyone owns, or has seen this, please do mail me. Even if you don't want to part with it I'd still like to know.

It's been a while since I've tested them, but I have a VR2020 that should work, plus two others that probably don't work. Could anyone provide me with a used V2000 tape by around 10th Feb 2005? Pay post and costs of course. I need to test a Grundig 2x4 (Grundig 1600) which I have just bought, before letting it loose on other people's tapes for DVD transfer. Which brand of tapes is in best shape today? I sometimes see stocks of video 2000 tapes where I live, it's mostly philips 480. No idea of their condition. I don't use them but if anyone truly needs tapes let me know.

I'm in serious trouble with my V2000 machine. I was casually watching an old tape when suddenly I heard low crackling sounds from the machine (Siemens 304, identical to Grundig 2x4 Super) and the picture started to go bad. Knowing the tape was slightly damaged but had gotten a lot better from being viewed a few times I just pressed fast forward to get over the bad section. No chance. Only snow and sound. Now it's like that with all tapes. Any chance for rescue or is the head drum shot? If yes I'll have to look into fixing my old Philips.Please help me! I have about 60 V2000 tapes and would love to watch them again!

A VR2025 which is switched onto play, and seconds later it shuts off into standby. It also shows no picture. Any comments like service manuals and other technical advices are welcome. In Nederlands would be quite o'rite.

V2000 Video 2000 used cassettes for sale large quantity all with old television recordings on both sides, tapes are a mixture of 2x2 , 2x3 , 2x4 hours ,tapes can be erased and reused.please contanct me for more details .

If like me you have come to this site looking for someone to transfer your Video 2000 tapes to a more current format I can recommend the services of Martin Potter who has a number of postings on this page.

When moving house I found a number of old tapes and Martin has successfully transferred them to DVD so I can once again see the old rubbish that I recorded back in the 80's. His service was both effective and reasonable so if you have a similar requirement then give him a call.

Did you know that even sony made VCC cassettes? I found some. Weird hey, they had their own betamax system, but they also made video 2000 tapes.

Hi! First, I'm in New York and I have to deal with a lot of PAL / NTSC conversions. I only recently discovered Video 2000. It happened as a result of someone sending me some tapes - and I didn't know what they were. I had never seen them before. I took them around to several professional duplication houses in NYC - and NOT ONE person had ever seen them before. No one had a clue. So I got a friend in Germany to find me a machine (Video 2000 2x8 Best Nr. 2080) and I just received it. However he didn't send any cables. Now I'm on a search for the cables. Does anyone know where I can get them? I specifically need the output cables which would go from the player to a German TV. I'd be looking for extra sets as well - since I'm sure I will ave to do a bit of splicing.

We have a lot of tapes (which capture important family events) and I am desperate to either find a working machine to purchase if anyone has it. Help,I have a Grundig V2000 2 x 8 player that was in excellent condition until I tried to play a film (from E-bay). Now plays with no colour and picture appears to "roll" very slightly from side to side. I assume the heads are dirty as I recently suffered exactly the same problem on a Sanyo Beta but I managed to find an old dry head cleaning tape which resolved the fault immediately.So, can anyone describe in detail how to clean the heads and tape path etc so that I can save my machine!Regards,Martyn Scott

I'm an old (not so old, I'm 41) V2000 fan ! I still own (all in SECAM, I'm french) : 2 VR 2334 (one is working but the heads...), 1 VR 2120 + 2220, 1 VR 2023 (working only in B&W, I think a little component has gone while watching a film during a storm ! Not clever, I know), a "like new" Radiola (=Philips in France) VR 2333 (same as 2340, but more recent, and with a different tape counter using the same panel as the clock) and I recently acquired a B&O 8802V perfectly working after cleaning.But I don't have the B&O remote control (The receptor is present inside the 8802). I tried to plug the remote control receptor of the VR2023 (the plug is present on the B&O), but it doesn't work, even when unplugging the B&O receptor...Any idea on how to adapt the Philips remote control on the 8802, or do you know someone who has one B&O remote for sale ?If you have pictures of the B&O remote control, you can send it by e-mail (I don't know what it looks like)...Maybe the good alternative must be to buy a universal remote...

Did you know that SONY made V2000 tapes as well?? Weird isn't it?

While clearing out someones house I have discovered an amazing collection of spare parts, manuals videos tapes and accessories. There are 3 grundig V2000 machines that are in working order, 6 that power up but need attention, 3 Philips VR2020, (1 in working order) the others power up lace the tape, unload then eject. There is also an external video / audio adapter for the Philips VR2020 /21 series that clips onto the rear of the VCR, still boxed and in as new condition. There are lots of V2000 tapes with various recordings etc.In addition there are lots of VCR service manuals for VHS Grundig,Philips & Ferguson machines. There is a lot more that needs sorting through which will take a while.I used to repair VCRs years ago and remember the V2000 well especially the Grundig 2x4 Super. Unfortunately, so far I have not found any video heads for V2000 machines. The non working ones I will try to repair and get up to a reasonable standard before putting them up for sale. There is also a dual beam Oscilloscope available with probes etc. If anyone has any specific requirements email me with your wants and I will let you know if I can oblige. I am located in North Manchester.
