The Sanyo VTC 5600P was Sanyo’s up-market top loader model, launched in early in 1981 in the UK featured a 10-function infrared remote control, a 7-day, 5 programme timer (the end time was set in run-time rather than an ‘off’ time) and had forward picture search and colour still with still advance.

The remote doesn’t feature any picture-search functions and the deck itself only has forward search but no reverse search. It’s a solid machine, very well built and looks distinctive.

It was head and shoulders over the VTC 9300 piano key machine but was competing mainly with the Sony SL-C7 and Toshiba V-8600 which in the day seemed to receive higher praise with the Toshiba and Sanyo recommended retail price of £599 and £639 for the Sony.
