Betamax PALsite : Sony Betamax through the ages

Over the years, Sony has released three different categories of consumer models, the elite, the budget and the portable ranges. The following table shows the chronology of these three ranges and how the relate to each other.

Sony also produced a range of industrial machines aimed at the duplication end of the market. These tended to be heavier duty but did not have so many features. These are not included here.
